"I know that the ones who love us, will miss us." He definitely knows that feeling. He suffered many loss in his life, his lover, his child, his best friend. I feel for him.
Manoj Tewari That's the kind of thing we'll never be able to confirm. Maybe, maybe not. None of us will ever know. I got tired of hearing this after my mom's passing. I know people try to make me feel better, but as a non believer (agnostic), it's only making me more depressed.
I lost my father too last year. I went on my first solo trip this year and there were little things e.g. locks for luggage, euro in coins, i found when cleaning the house that helped me on my trip. He was giving me things to help me so I'm greatful for that.
Magido89 I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my father 3 years ago. I can’t say it gets better so much as it becomes bearable. It’s like being in a rough ocean the gradually calms down. Prayers to you.
"I know that the ones who love us will miss us." The first time I watched this video I "just" felt for Keanu and Stephen since I knew they´ve lost loved ones. That was in May 2019, and 5 months later my mom died. I found this quote today and this time it hits completely different.
When you lose love ones you know what those words mean. Especially when your elders start to pass away, my father for example 6 years ago. You listen to that it reminds you of how true that is
The fact that he remembers the horse trainers name and the stunt people. Not many actors mention these people. He is a real professional and gentlemen.
I really teared up when I realized he wasn’t talking about himself. If you know some of the horrific shit this man has been through its extra impactful. Mad respect for this beautiful man.
Maricarmen I mean he lost his best friend (river Phoenix) and ex wife whom he still had a close relationship with if memory serves. He’s been through a lot.
It’s poetic and has double meaning here.. if you don't know Stephen Colbert also lost close family members in a car accident when he was young. They both lost close people to them and I think in the very moment Keanu said it; "Stephen felt it". Also Stephen Colbert is openly a religious man (catholic) and for once heard an answer that is 100% true that is not from an authoritive or in any way assumptive. Love it or hate it Religion tends to assume to have all the answers especially to what happens to us when we die, keanu gave a brilliant truthful answer while staying humble! Love it! Stephen was speechless!
The fact that he takes his time to mention the people behind the scenes who have worked on the film says how much of a kind human being he is. One of a kind. Love Keanu.
I think stephen has great skin honestly stephen's like steve martin he has looked 45 for the past 20 years. Keanu started off looking spanish then mongolian then native american then Chilean he doesnt have time to look like anything else other than a beautiful gangsta eurasian warrior elf. I was thinking the other way around that we should not afraid to die because it will not only be pitch and black afterwards like many atheists says but instead we get to meet with our loved ones who missed us in the afterlife. The meaning also can be vice versa like ppl that love us will miss us when we die. U know that a good choice of word when it gives a lot of good points and reasons.
yeah total respect for the way he silently responded with a simple smile and a handshake. Colbert is just a cool, tactful dude. I am not a *huge* fan of Keanu Reeves, but I have a lot of respect for him, and really admire that, despite all he has endured, he manages to press on.
You could see Stephen taken back. He lost his 2 elder siblings and father when he was 10. Keanu's answer just hits him deep. Moments like these stick with you. You can feel it in your own lives and relate with it. The more you listen to such things the more wisdom you gain. Bless him.
I love Stephen's reaction to what Keanu said at the end. You could see that the words really surprised him and made him think. He had no idea that was what Keanu was gonna say, and it really hit him in a special way. I love how simple and unpretentious it is. No grand idea of an afterlife, just about the people we love and who love us. Thank god for Keanu, a true treasure of a human being. Edit: Holy crap, over 900 likes. Thank you everyone. Didn't expect a reaction like this.
It was utterly humbling, and Steven's reaction indeed was palpable. No mythos invoked, just embracing this demonstrable one life we have, appreciating the fleeting intimacy in as ostensibly indifferent Cosmos.
Regardless of anyone's opinion about the afterlife, including Keanu's (that he diplomatically didn't mention), the fact that those who care about us grieve is real. What I loved is how he framed the sentence. Rather than worry about a hypothetical afterlife he might go through, he worried about those left behind & his tone can also imply that what matters is the impact we leave behind on others, the lives we lived.
There's this switch in Keanu's face when Colbert asks the question about death. From lighthearted to serious. Anyone who knows Keanu's story knows this is personal for him. His answer is so genuine and heartfelt.
I don't know if Stephen Colbert knew it but he hit Keanu hard with that one. Keanu exhale and you can see it in his eyes, but I think he was thinking about his late wife.

The "what happens when we die" question is one of oldest philosophical questions in existence. Yet this is best answer to it I've ever heard.
Yes, such a simple answer, that ignores any races, religions, cultures, continents, political views, sexual orientations... That simplicity and relatability makes it universally true...
He's suffered a lot of loss himself I think that's why he kept it simple as it's a very sore subject for him
@@davidmole2715 True, he gave that answer from experience, but honestly, so many people, even those who have experience, would have just shrug it off and said some regular showbiz BS answer.
This is the first time I have ever heard the answer to this question explained outside the context of oneself. It was never about us. Our ego dissolves in the presence of truth and love. Now this is the only answer that I will use to this question for it pays the most respect to the fascination in the first place. ❤️

Maceo Banyan Yes me too. And beautifully said your post.❤️❤️❤️❤️
I loved Stephen's reaction also to Keanu's answer as a simple and honest truth spoken from the heart.

@@vb8428 I disagree. It is in the context of the upcoming movie, and I think the death of loved ones should not be something ignored but something openly acknowledged and discussed. I feel in the modern age we need a healthier attitude towards death. We are too disconnected from it. It is a part of life.
@@vb8428 Colbert has also lost a lot. Check out his past
@@vb8428 I agree. Colbert was just trying to be cute and funny, dropping a philosophical question out of nowhere. I feel he unintentionally struck a nerve with Keanu though, who is still deeply affected by all the people he lost in his life. However being the legend that he is, he managed to handle this with extraordinary grace, giving the most perfect answer one could think of.
You see keanu reeves vulnerable side right in the end. One can see how much pain he has been through when he answers that question. He's such a deep person. So much love to him. He deserves it all ❤️
That sudden change in answering that last question…. It just took me away …. Great respect for this man …. I absolutely love him
Did anyone else notice how Keanu face expression changes in the last question? The mood changes instantly...
don't make death jokes in front of Keanu Reeves. The guy been through a lot..
Different people cope with the hardships of life differently. Stephen was not making death jokes in my opinion. It was the audience who started laughing at that question by Stephen. Stephen been through a lot too. His father and two of his brothers passed away in a plane crash.
@@MRfisheri same. I was talking about how people took it as a a joke, you can even see how colbert got suprised and just stop. He didn't expect Chuck Spidina would take it that seriously.
Yes...whole Interview scenario changed after last question! But he just nailed, just check interviewer expression afterwards....he said wow
Stephen lost his father & brothers in a plane crash when he was in his teens, I don't think he meant it as a joke. I think he knows how connected spiritually Keanu is & that's why he asked.
As opposed to Stephen Colbert? You need to read up on him a bit.
An unforgettable perfect answer to a question that has befuddled mankind since the beginning. Only a person who has known the ache of loss from others dying could fathom this answer.
So very true.
Or only a selfless person could answer the question profoundly, even myself, when ask what will happen after we die, I answer with my personal belief of where I'll go, forgetting at that moment the people I'll leave.
So true sir
I think that’s everyone
Keanu is a strong, strong candidate for the nicest person of all time.
Canadian, he is canadian
That gave me chills. Also, I just gained a whole lot more respect to Stephen as a host because he stopped the interview at the height. Wow that was brilliant.
