I'm loving the island survival trend 😆my favorites this year so far have been Blood Meridian, Tress of the Emerald Sea, and Chain-Gang All Stars. Crossing my fingers for another favorite that I'm currently reading!
New subscriber. Love your videos and your taste in books!! Just about every book mentioned I either read or own. And if i own them, I need to move them up on my TBR, 😊. You Better Watch Out was a fun read, I did both the book and audio; there's were a couple of times I was late cause of the audio. Like you, I love island isolation stories, and there are a few that's on my TBR, and I'm wondering if you've read or heard about them. Lastly, I love looking at ppls bookshelves and always find it fascinating to see many of the books i own sitting on other ppls shelves. Thanks for the video and take care!!
I’m planning to read An Education in Malice soon! My favorites of the year are Lights by Brenna Thummler, Lightfall #3 by Tim Probert, Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree and Tress of the Emerald Sea by Sanderson 😊
"This video is sponsored by water" - LOL! 🤣 And you realizing live while filming that the island theme keeps coming up in all of the books you are describing is pretty funny! It's very cool that the author of Midnight on Beacon Street took the time to answer your email when you shared about how her book resonated with her. I can see how that topped your reading experience very nicely! You're definitely on top of things, having already made your list of favorites for the year! I had not really thought about which were mine, but I looked at my Goodreads to see which book I'd tagged in "My Favorite books" shelf and so far, I have: - Everyone on This Train is a Suspect - Benjamin Stevenson - Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents - Isabel Wilkerson - Rock Paper Scissors - Alice Feeney - Annie Bot - Sierra Greer - Elle r'viendra pas, Camille : Journal d'un amoureux - Guillaume Pineault - Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend - MJ. Wassmer - Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir - Razorblade Tears - S.A. Cosby I ended up taking a couple of books off my "favorites" shelf because now that I'm a little further removed from reading those books, I realized they did not stay with me as much as I thought. The ones mentioned are still stirring up emotions when I think about their contents even months later. This is where making book suggestions to others is tricky - just because something really spoke to me does not mean that it will for others. This part is a little bit of a shot in the dark, but I guess we're always hoping that the person will have a similar positive reaction to the story even if their life experience is slightly different.
yes yes yes to all of this!!! We seem to reflect in a similar way! You enjoyed three books I really love, Razorblade Tears, Rock Paper Scissors, and Everyone on This Train is a Suspect. I also really enjoyed Annie Bot!! Here's to more shared favorites in 2025!!
You challenged me with a listing of isolation (like) status books. I had a few in a folder, but after doing a sweep, below are some titles I came up with. I was aware of, many I didn't. Hope there's something in the listing you can use .... Take care. The Plus One, SC Lalli The Island, Sara Goodwin Small Game, Blair Braverman Savages, Shirley Conran Reckless Girls, Rachel Hawkins The Castaways, Lucy Clarke She Started It, Sian Gilbert The Missing, Kiersten Modglin Everyone Is Watching They All Fall Down, Rachel Howzell Hall The Club, Ellery Lloyd Love Love TV, Gabriel Ruesso The Engagement Party, Darby Kane Deadly Shoot, TJ Brearton The Boat Party, MA Hunter The Snow Storm, Triona Walsh The Sanctuary, Charlotte Duckworth NiL, Lynne Matson A Quiet Retreat, Kiersten Modglin Find Her, Sarah A. Denzil The Hike, Susi Holiday Always The First To Die, R. J. Jacobs The Dark, Emma Haughton You're Invited, Amanda Jayatissa
I think seeing all the negative reviews of Education in Malice actually helped me bc I ended up liking it much more when my expectations were lowered lol. I'm giving my MIL Horror Movie-- let's home she loves it like you do 👀
Hi Zack, I’ve read 70 books so far this year, and will probably end-up around 85 or so, but my favorites of 2024 (so far) are: Night Watching by Tracy Sierra End of Story by A.J. Finn A Step Past Darkness by Vera Kurian Murder Road by Simone St. James The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley Kill for Me, Kill for You by Steve Cavanagh Tell Me Who You Are by Louisa Luna Someone in the Attic by Andrea Mara The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak The Hitchcock Hotel by Stephanie Wrobel This Girl’s A Killer by Emma C. Only 1 Zack harmed in the making of... It's a noble sacrifice. And how many of us have not been attacked by our own books? My favorite of the year? Hmm... possibly Edenville by Sam Rebelein. I wasn't expecting to like it that much and it had a slow start but it just grabbed me and for some reason I liked it a lot. Very Lovecraftian. Oh and lest I forget, All the Fiends of Hell by Adam Nevill. Loved that one!
