- Headed out for a fun adventure at early ice! Even though the day was not amazing I still want to showcase the good with the bad. Not every day I fish is big fish and tons of action. It is fishing and I want people to see both sides of the coin. Cheers everyone!

I'm still waiting for good ice in Upper Michigan... I'm guessing January sometime at the earliest unless the weather changes. We are gonna hit 40° for a couple days coming up, so im thinking the ice already out there will be ruined. Im looking forward to trying out my Eskimo wide 1 inferno flip over shack 🤘 it looks nice. Your persistence and patience are amazing! All your camera work is excellent and I appreciate all the good info. Thanks Clayton! We don't have all the gear, cameras, etc... so we end up just drilling a bunch of holes in likely areas of structure. Still do pretty well most of the time haha!

Clever way to save the day with the makeshift peg/tie down. Be careful with the water beetles. They do bite and it's pretty painful when they do.

Cleaned a rainbow last winter....completely full of water beetles.
I have yet to notice in pike or walleye myself.

Don’t know if fish eat those beetles, but that beetle will bite you and it is one of the most painful bites in the animal kingdom.

Hard to tell since it was curled up, but that was potentially a water beetle called a toe biter. It has one of most painful bites of an infect. Handle carefully.
Oh man!! I had another one come up the hole and yup got bit!! No infections. But wow sharp bite!

Love the videos buddy! I do have a questions, I am looking at buying a Clam or Eskimo it would primarly be just for me fishing maybe 1 other person but I need it to also be big enough for when my wife, 8 year old and 3 year old join me. What size of house do you normally use because it looks like about the right size.
I think the Eskimo escape 2400 :). That would be good for one person but also enough room if you were to have the family with you :). But look up the 2000 as well. It’s a very good one man. And you can but two people with a young child. It has a bench seat on that one

I love the sounds of making ice on the lakes. I find it soothing! I have missed it for so long. Still open water here, cooler temps next week should start making ice hopefully.
Trying out Eskimo this year? Always see ya with otter. I’ve got two eskimos. I’ve got the biggest I use for ice camping and a smaller one I’ve had for years now. Awesome tents! Can’t wait for ice fishin
The ice quakes freak me out. That’s why I wait for late December. Thx for getting out there for early content. Much appreciated. 2-3 weeks and I am out there!

Love the ice shift!! That gets us all at some point. One of my absolute best days was chasing lakers and the ice was going crazy! Fishing in maybe 40 feet of water.

I know you want to catch huge fish every video for it to be a "great video" Clayton, but videos like this are a great balance of content and quality :) more realistic for the average angler too. Forgot a piece of gear and improvised, kept the positive mentality and made a day of it catching fish. Fishing is a grind sometimes and we will grind it out with you :) Thanks for posting!

I’m fishing off a dock right now because too cold for a boat but not cold enough for safe ice. I put my camera down and saw walleye,bluegill crappie bass and a northern
Trout love those big water roaches but I don’t think they can digest them very well. I caught a big rainbow last year with one of those stuck half way out it’s ass!

Hey, those small ones are the best to eat. That is what we ate when we drove up to Ontario for the 1st week of the game fish season from Illinois. Spent a week there. Sometimes two weeks straight. Took home our 4 fish limit. Let most of the big ones go. We would eat the 13 to 17 inchers. Great vid. Keep on keepin' on. You are fortunate to have access to some fine eatin'.

Those waterbeetles are really efficient when icefishing for arctic char here in Norway! They love those big snacks!

I live and fish in SE North Dakota. Any tips on where walleyes typically are on the early ice as far as typical depth range? I always assume they are shallower just like the late fall bite.

I’m not disappointed in my switch at all to be honest. Otter makes a great product was always happy. I have other reasons for switching.
I was wondering if this was ever gonna happen... Ice is coming really slow here, but it will be here soon enough. My Frostbite order is supposed to be here tomorrow, so I got that to look forward to anyway🍻

Never had a really good day when the ice is loud. Something I noticed years ago. And the little critters you see scooting around on the aqua view are daphnia. They are a small crustaceans and are indicator of quality fisheries in my experience.
i haven’t had a good day trout fishing when it’s making noises but i find perch and a lot of other species could care less

Stocked trout eat a lot of giant diving beetles like you saw come up your hole. Not sure about other gamefish, but worth a shot!

I wonder if with the early ice being thin that the shacks casts a shadow under the ice that may affect their behaviour. Not gunna lie, it will take some time to get used to seeing you with a Eskimo hoodie on, I like the design of that hoodie.
