The drill stand is shaking while you press down so upgrade the drill stand to a stronger frame etc.

Most drill presses are going to struggle. Dedicated mortising machines a pretty beefy, with 2 to 3 foot long handles. You need a lot of force.

I just finished building the handrail on my deck th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!

Yep. That's because a 4-sided chisel still has to remove material via cutting. Auger removes cut material from the hole.
Considerably easier with softwood than hardwood.
Better to use small chisel and make multiple passes to achieve desired size.

Yep, exactly... Take a look at a mortising machine. they are a bit more beefy, with 2 to 3 foot handles. Drilling mortises requires a lot or force. A drill press is going to struggle.
