    I would surely suspect a bad cable to the DLC. Intermittent and changing errors arising from comm with the vehicle really points to perhaps bad pin fitment in a header, bad wiring within the header (or in the connection back to the computer). Thanks for your videos!

    You need to use Mongoose cable or the most expensive Toyota cable. It's a cheap cable that's why it didn't work. Cheap cables do not have latest firmware which is needed. The techstream seemed to be completely activated! That's it friend. Good video!

    Perhaps you can explain why you need a Panasonic Tuff Book. Is that where all the cost is involved in your choice to incorporate Techstream relatively cheap soft ware. And what is the Snap on box below or is that something seperate or all part of the very neat looking package kit?

    I put techstream on a $50 xp machine 5 years ago for my 2002 MR2 spyder.
    Works great, live data and everything, but it is picky about starting the car. The ECU resets and looses comms man. I find its the VIM xHorse selection has droped. [Vehicle Interface Module] Its a standard CAN interface in that OBD head. Sometimes I have to power down the laptop, but unplugging the cable from both car and USB, xHorse select usually works.

    Since it connects and starts to generate, then all of a sudden cuts out. I suspect cable issues, since when you start the engine it vibrates and disturbs the transmission of data.

    There is an interface board for the cable in the computer, it looks like you have a bad electrical card. I would replace that card since it is defective. I suspect the added noise entering the cable from the engine running is enough to cause the noise filtering on the interface to fail. I dont suspect the cable since it works when the engine is not running.

    • @plumkey197
      @plumkey197 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed; there is a nightmarish number of electrical components in the cable interface that could be suspect. Swap it out with one of the cheapo Chinese versions. Also, back up the hard drive and reload a fresh copy of 32 bit Windows XP with SP-2 or Windows 7 ( and then go to the Toyota site and get a copy of Techstream from the source and pay for a 2 day subscription in order to test the computer itself. Toyota provides the software for free, but only offers 2 levels of subscriptions: 2 days or one year. I couldn't get Techstream to work on my 64 bit Windows 10 laptop, but worked well on a Toshiba Satellite I found on eBay for $70. The seller included a fresh copy of XP, but without the drivers. I used eBay once more and located a seller that had the updated drivers for several legacy Windows systems.

    So far, I despise Toyota's OBDII set-up compared to other manufacturers. Another way for them to wrangle more money from our pockets into theirs (IF you are trying to stay legal). I'll never own a Toy-ota because of that but I have neighbors that really can't afford to take theirs to dealerships and I get cornered regularly. I face the same issues with perfectly good equipment.

    • @tinkerscorner54
      @tinkerscorner54 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ph8632 May be. Hacking their software isn't my intention. Using the OBDII port for diagnosis at a DIY level without having to spend an inordinate ammount on scanners is (which by law, it should be accesible. Note that I did state "(IF you are trying to stay legal".)) Right now, I'm not a fan of practically any modern car company. I used to be a Ford Fan but after 2013, not so much. Their newer engineers and designers seem to have shi . . . straw for brains. The cars look nice but don't hold up like they should. Toyota seems to be better about keeping to what works right, but the OBD issue burns me. I fully support "Right to Repair" laws. As I stated, not everyone can afford to go to a dealership and a lot of them end up in my driveway. They charge over $100 an hour for labor, I charge a cup of coffee.

Check all reviews on web even Amazon etc. Do a google search w/Neg. words: "rip-off, scam, defects" and BBB, trustpilot, sitejabber, ftc. for less-known websites. Install TS, copy a file.
      The adapter is 25$ or so (the ones that work with windows 10). All work with TS 12.X, some with TS13. These cheap adapters do not flash though. You have to find a rare one with with 2.X firmware. Those are like $60. But the cheap one can do almost anything. The story is a company called Xhorse created a "Mini-VCI" for about $150. Then everyone copied it, some copies better than others.

      To add on to this, it looks like his version of techstream is outdated. I found techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/staticcontent/en/techinfo/html/prelogin/tsrss/ts_known_bugs.html and it shows bugs for 13.10.019 while he's running 12.00.124. If you can, I would recommend updating the software and trying again. It's also possible that since it is off ebay, the software might be cracked or be illegitimate in some way. Or it could just be bad hardware. Tons of different possibilities with this kind of setup.
      But yeah, expecting it to just work is reasonable for that price. If you're willing to try other methods, you could call their support number which is found here: techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/staticcontent/en/techinfo/html/prelogin/docs/tslfaqtinfo.pdf#page=8
