I would say it's also important to validate the behavior first. It's motivated, and they are doing it for a reason. Helping them feel heard before moving onto a 'resolution' can be quite important in helping them not feel like they have to 'fix' something about themselves. Or, put shorter, seek first to understand, and then seek to be understood.

Indeed. It's better to ask the 'why' first, then start giving your opposite viewpoint and come to a healthy conclusion.
Your advice and Skylar's advice are both great in these types of situations. And it's better understanding that you're not the 'hero' or the 'villain' for having a different opinion than other people, we're all grey in a way, and it's important to keep that in mind, before thinking your opinion is better than other's.
