  • In this video, I will show full preservation of the German Waffen-SS Helmet M40 size 64 from the World War II. This helmet has been in the ground for 75 years. As a result of the restoration, the original paint and the color of the helmet were preserved.

Veeeeery dark humor here... as a German it’s even darker...
Edit: One of my two great grandmothers had an older Brother serving in the Wehrmacht. He was in Russia. He was in those Battles were many soldiers deserted. Mostly the Families would get a so-called „Gefallenenbrief“ if the soldier would die in Combat, but as I says I think he deserted, and later became a part of the sixth division ore in other words the „Strafbatallion“ and maybe died of hunger, because the people that died in this battalion were mostly reported as missed, so the people wouldn’t think it was their one country who killed them. Another one in my Family went to the even worse KZ Dachau bc he was a communist. He barely survived.

Tip for the candle wax that you blew all over the helmet is absorbing parchment paper. Put it over the wax, then heat it. All the wax will stick to the paper. It`s the tecnique used on clothes and table cloths. I`ve also used it on wood tables.

In the end you can see a slight green finish in the paint, that's known as the shiefer grau (grey green) color . The paint was an oil based enamel with a heavy tropical lacquer and the medium grade aluminum oxide powder.

    • @rexterrocks

Several TH-cam channels dedicated to recovering missing WW II soldiers from the Eastern Front pointed out that when they find soldiers with a shrapnel damaged helmet like this one they find corresponding damage to the skull. The piece of shrapnel that left this hole probably killed the man wearing it.

Alot of work but well worth it , a single decal W/SS M40 . As far as the bullet hole in the back...some of the allie soldiers would shoot the helmets for target practice. Wish I could see the makers mark and lot # and shell size , I have a rare factory double decal W/SS M40 all original. It's a ET 62 lot # 5152 , only 500 was issued and only 3 of them have been recorded. Beautiful job on preserving the piece of history....thanks for sharing it .👍✌
