Seeing people get such a kick from this sort of thing never gets old! Thank you for sharing - and thanks for answering "How it's done" down below! Clear skies!!
I don't think I've ever seen a 10micron mount in Alt-Az mode. That is very cool. I could feel your excitement in the pass. I wish you had a camera mounted to share with us the view but I relly like seeing the scope/mount in action too.
Thanks. Funny that you bring that up, now. I bought a 50mm guide scope about a week ago to do just that. Plus, I’ll use it to keep the ISS centered in the FOV while friends are focused on keeping their eye on the eyepiece. Still waiting for the small scope to arrive.
This telescope (160ED) isn’t made anymore. The newest version by TEC, the 160FL, costs $12,500. Highest theoretical magnification is 320x. I rarely go that high, though. Small exit pupils bring out the floaters in my eyes. I will go higher when splitting double stars. Maybe as high as 400x.
Yes, Mark. The 10Micron has built-in software for tracking any satellite. You just need to feed it the TLE (two line element). I have a separate TH-cam “How To” video that goes through the steps.
@@mattmagilke2433 Thanks, I was hoping it was not integrated. The 10 micron is way ouside my budget. Please take some pictures so we can see just how nice it is...
Thanks Matt. I'm thinking about doing the same by adding the AZ2000 HPM. Do you have the AZ2000 version that splits into two pieces for saving your back?
@@BobWallace-cw7ff The AZ models don’t split into separate pieces. I believe that’s only on the GMs. It’s a hundred pounds with the dual scope option. I certainly wouldn’t want to use this as a portable mount. I really need to add an updated video with the AZ2000 and my 8” f/8 APO.
Yes, several of my ISS TH-cam videos were shot during the day. I think it’s actually easier to image during the day because the ISS isn’t so darn bright.
Yes, it is the Baader Zoom. It’s a very good zoom but it has a somewhat limited field of view. I’ve since replaced it with the Leica ASPH zoom which is phenomenal.
@@mattmagilke2433 for circa $300, is there another eyepiece youd recommend over a baader. Ive thought of one of the lower end televues but id only be limited to one focal length. The leica seems nice but its a pocket stretcher!
@@ikbenvoetbal if $300 is your budget, get the Baader zoom. You can’t beat it for the money. If you aren’t already a member, check out Cloudynights.com. You can ask questions like that and get a ton of feedback and suggestions from a lot of very knowledgeable amateur astronomers.
Shared moments like that are what life is all about. :)
Now I have another fantastic reason why I should set up my TOA-150.
Thanks!

I sure doesn’t! Thanks for leaving a comment.

@@mattmagilke2433 your channel is a fail for a reason, are you still alive?
Very nice video
Nice Matt - quite amazing that your mount can run altaz .. I sometimes wish my 900GTO could do the same.
Thanks Bruce. I love this mount!
What was the magnification you watched ISS? Have you tried a bino-viewer with this telescope? I guess it must be great to see ISS with both eyes )
I used the binoviewer at 234x the last couple 65-degree transits. Two eyes is much better than one. It’s much easier to pick up detail.
Is that a TEC APO 160ED?
Yes, it is.
a question how much does this telescope cost and what is its maximum magnification

Its the mount that has most of the magic
How does the mount track the satellite? Software???

Hi Matt, what made you choose the 10Micron AZ1000 over the GM1000? Hope you're still enjoying the setup with no issues. Best Bob
I don’t do imaging, so I prefer the convenient eyepiece location that an Alt-Az provides.
Oh… I upgraded a couple years ago to the 10Micron AZ2000 with the dual scope adapter. 😊

Yes, he does!
Was it possible to latch a camera on it to capture a video as well?
Never saw one mid-day

Is that a baader zoom eyepiece? Im thinking of getting one for my 10" dob. If that's what you have, do you recommend it?

My God its a one big cannon. Refractors are beautifull but in some sizes catadioptrics may be better solution.
Thanks RC. It sure is a beauty, isn’t it? The only way I replace the TEC160ED (in the video) is with a TEC180FL. 😊
Thats a Monster of a Refractor!! As i reach my 60s if i wanted one of these i would have to consider could i lift it in the future 🇨🇭🇨🇭
Get out! Is that a miniature golf course?
6 more years and ISS no more!
2030 the year when NASA de-orbits ISS!
Ouch!
Still can watch the Chines ST?
