You're gonna love this mount. Making a model is less hassle then setting up your guiding. With a model in place, the rest is shooting from the hip. Platesolving after a meridian flip? Forget about it. The pointing is bang on every time. It stuns me still. I am using the 1000hps in my obsy for 3 years now.
I never thought I'd say this about a mount but man that is a very beautiful mount and tripod. Congrats! I know you will really enjoy it as 10 Micron's are the best of the best and ascetically pleasing!
Congratulations on receiving such a beautiful mount! Wow, amazing gift from your friend, Mark. It will get very good use in your capable hands. So exciting - have fun!!
Indeed! But ASA pretty much gave up on consumer portable mounts and went to observatory type mounts only... unless they’ve changed their minds... so there’s only 10Micron now.
Yup, the mount is the best, Ive had one for 5 years, It really is a plug and play and you can forget about snags, backlash and guiding too. The Italians have really triumphed here, more famous than the colloseum now :) I would recommend using ethernet to control the mount, not the old fashioned serial USB and get going creating a model for long unguided imaging
Thank you Adrian! The only thing that scares me is that it is super difficult to get the mount out of the case each time while all axis are unlocked (per the manual), it's always scary to handle. Also I don't think we should bother with the models since we always set up at different locations
@@GalacticHunter I dont transport mine much, but there is a technique to learn :) The model allows unguided imaging and a 20 point model (automated) only takes 10 minutes, honestly its worth it, try it at home to get used to it, the absolute encoders are its best feature.
You will most likely use the hand controller anyway, it is very handy for a lot of quick settings and because the "brain" sits in the box and not the controller this works really well.
Good video, and congrats on the new mount! A few things needing some clarification though: 1. The 10 Micron is equipped with dual axis absolute encoders. These are the top of the line encoders. The EQ8-Rh series mounts are equipped with a Renishaw Incremental Encoder (note: not plural, it only has one, and it is on the RA axis) and these are inferior to absolute encoders for use in Astrophotography. 2. Your counterweight configuration is wrong you need to add additional weights so you do not need the stack at the bottom of the bar. This exponentially increases moment arm, and reduces the tracking effectiveness of the mount, especially when unguided, but nonetheless you need to update that in your setup. 3. The linked video does not explain encoders well at all.
Oh my, that is one beautiful mount, the tripod looks like it could have been made by Bugatti, you guys are WELL deserving of this awesome piece of hardware!
Thank you so much for this video. I have been going back and forth on this mount (ordered and changed) but have always had so many questions. For now I have settled on the Rainbow mounts since I'm mostly visual/EAA and dabble with imaging once in a while. I might eventually buy the 10u once I get serious about AP. Looking forward to your first light, and setup videos too. Many times folks gloss over the "minor things" but I always find those "minor things" informative as a whole in your videos.
Thank you! The Rainbow mounts are definitely a good choice too. We have a first light and an unboxing video coming soon, we'll probably make yet another video in a few months or so when we are fully familiar with the mount and go over how we feel about it in the long run :)
can I ask where (not looking for specifics, just generally) you go for your dark skies? I live in Vegas, 1 block from the strip and its impossible. Is this in Red Rock canyon?
Thanks! It is difficult to find because this specific one was made for this mount and comes as an addon when purchasing the mount, but it is the equivalent as this tripod: bit.ly/3BEDkws
Hi! We were told our Orion region would be featured on the September reader's gallery but didn't hear anything about a Cosmic Portrait, could you explain?
The MyT is perfect if you are used to it and especially if it's permamently installed in an observatory. Both the Mach 2 and 10Micron series are fantastic and "plug and play". But since you already have the MyT I'm not sure it would be worth it to upgrade unless there is something you don't like about the MyT.
At least you can connect the ASIAIR pro this time. Just use LX classic. It really is plug and play. I’m still playing around but have found I need to turn off dual tracking during AAP PA. I still guide though 😂
Hi what area of the country do you observe from? Im in southern Ontario and we have dark skies here but high humidity? Im wondering if its worth travelling to the US desert for better skies?
Love it!! ... also totally jealous 😋. I have only used celestron and SW mounts, I assume it is all ascom compliant? The hand control balance trick is so good I always wondered why all mounts Don have that... it's basically just a simple power meter which would seem pretty trivial to engineer ... perhaps I underestimate the difficulty to get the required accuracy!
I’m just going to like the video and walk away because I know if I hear too much about this mount I’m going to start thinking about it and thinking about it and the next thing you know I’ll have spent $10k+ on a mount. Lalalalalala I’m not listening!!!😁
Wow this mount is around 30k! 7:10 Unlike Atlas EQG I see that the control unit is separate. This is cool When you say it knows exactly where you are pointed what is your standard routine to setup the mount. I could not get it
$30K is probably one of the larger versions, this one is around 9-10K 😱 And to answer your question, once it is aligned, even if you manually slew the mount to a random part of the sky, or restart the mount, you can tell it to slew to your desired target and it will have no problem finding it right away, even if you manually unlocked it and pointed it at the ground :D
@@swapsaraf3 PA is required, but there is no polar scope. Its done by creating a small model, say 9 points and then noting the error and the handset/PC tell you which way to move Alt/Az
Sorry, I think it is inappropriate to accept such an expensive gift. What is his story and why would a stranger part with such large amounts of money? what is he getting from this?
congrats on the new mount guys .. it's not insignificant!
Thank you Encoder-bro!
Oh man! - HUGE congratulations to you guys, and three cheers for Mark! What an incredible piece of equipment to own and use :-)
Thank you!! And yes Cheers to Mark for life 😅

You guys are so lucky getting free stuff. Fantastic mount. Congratulations

There is a digital version of the hand controller that works with ASCOM, I think we'll use that which is what most people seem to do 🤔

Wow, congrats on the new mount. You seem to have an astro guardian angel - such a generous person.
Thank you! And yes Mark has helped us so much over the years and we'll forever be grateful 🥰
