I was a volunteer diver for a similar macrocystis+urchin study in california (2017-2018). Removing purpuratus from study plots was somewhat helpful, but not scalable. Meanwhile the state's fishing regulators, controlled by a dying industry, treat "ecosystem" like a dirty word. I'm glad NZ's government (working with indigenous groups) is trying to do better.

Wonderful creativity! Impressive. David Attenborough would have loved this. Great find RNZ. Please do more interesting titles - " of Kina and crayfish ecosystem"
    BTW- who is supporting it?
