Pepi, you are correct in using the prickly pear cactus. However, you have stifled yourself with only planting a few. In your climate, it will do well. Mexico has used this plant for thousands of yesrs. It is food, fodder, fiber, fuel, medicine.

tomatoe is "firm", not "hard". "Hard" would mean unwipe. "Firm" means a little soft, but not mushy.
