    A pat on the back for TH-cam videos - I am new to the longarm quilting world and am going to attempt a t-shirt quilt ---- I have researched which needle to use so that I do not ruin the fragle fabrics and was so glad to find this older video to reinforce that I was headed in the right direction in insisting that I find and use a FFG or at least a FG needle for my machine. In doing so, I have learned that Groz-Beckert has an app to assist with the information relating to all of my needles and that I should watch for and use a MR (Multi-Range) needle for added precision and the elinination of potential thread issues. thank you so much!!!

    Thank you so much, this was an excellent video that helped me understand longarm needles and what all the letter codes mean. I should be using sharps on my cotton quilts but I looked at all my needles and they are either light or medium ballpoints.

    This is just what I needed, I bought a used machine and ordered the same needles that were given with machine. I found that my fabric was being pulled by the needle causing runs decided I needed to check for more info on needles and this popped up. The needles I received were all good except they are FFG/SES meaning I am using ball point needles I need R needles I am pretty sure . Thanks so much I don't know if you check back on these old videos seeing that is from Jun of 2019 but just in case I wanted to let you know that this was amazing. Maybe it's time for you to do another video on needles for newbies like me. I am 75 years old and just now doing the long arm thing am I nuts sometimes I wonder. lol

    How often do you change your needle?
    How many hours use/per quilt?

    • @LindasElectricQuilters
      @LindasElectricQuilters  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Penny,
      It is recommend that you change your needle every quilt. Our rule of thumb is every queen size quilt or every two baby/lap size quilts. Needles are relatively cost effective so we do not like to take the risk of quilting with a dull needle:)

      Only if you do minky on top and bottom. However, we use sharp and have no issues either.

    Thanks for the info. I picked up some tidbits. Question: When I use a digitized pattern that has lots of right to left stitching, it shreds and breaks the thread often. Like for example long straight or wavy lines from side to side. Most patterns stitch fine but long sections of right to left break. Any advise.

    • @LindasElectricQuilters
      @LindasElectricQuilters  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cindy,
      When we have experienced this in the past it has to deal with needle position and speed. Normally your needle is straight in the machine (6 o'clock) position. When you're doing a lot of quilting that is primarily from right to left we recommend turning you needle a tad bit to the right (5:30 position) to help minimize that issue:) Also slowing down the machine helps as well!

    My fabric store sold me FG needles. Why would they assume I need this size for quilting.

    • @LindasElectricQuilters
      @LindasElectricQuilters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some stores are unfamiliar with the differences between all of the needles. Those needles are Ballpoint needles which will help you tremendously with T-shirt quilts! I would double check with your machine manufacturer, but it is always recommended to use a sharp needle (R) for everyday quilting. This will also help to eliminate skipped stitches and thread breaks.
