Amarige sounds like I need to smell it lol. I recently ordered La Perla Contemporary Tuberose because of the grown and feminine notes. It was a blind buy ugh crossed fingers. I love the back story you gave. Didnt realize you were a teacher. As am I. Thank you for what you did!
I used to wear this fragrance (Amarige) many many years ago. I had completely forgot about it. I think I might need to revisit it. I remember it being a lovely fragrance at least on me.

It has a strong rum note that at the time I didn't care for. However, I really like boozy scents now and need to try it again. Thanks for the reminder.
This list is awesome. Your Top 10, are so close to mine. If I have to choose just one that is a favorite for the year, I would got for D&G The Only One Intense. It's not a new release, but it is new to me, and I feel really bad, that I have slept on it for such a long time. Opens up like JPG Classique, and dries down like Alien. You cannot do any better in my book!

I’m completely down with you on Alien (just finished) and I have Narciso and it’s beautiful… I just found out recently that Narciso has a Prive line of about 5 variations on musk in which I’m awaiting one. Had no idea they existed as I never hear about them. 💞

Also I just bought flower bomb nectar and it amarlos insanely good to me!! I’ve never liked the original, never appealed to me but the nectar, ufffffff ❤ I also just got the original scandal and love that one too. I have never had a frag with a honey note and this one has it and it smells divine to me as well! Amarige was my signature scent in my college days in the 90’s I’m 48 😅 I smelled it a few weeks ago and I just could not!!! I thing like what I remember!!! I wanted to cry 😢 and the very young lady that was helping me at Macy’s was giving me all the old lady vibes with her face when I asked for amarige 😂😂 there were only like 5 bottles in a tiny little corner cabinet and she proceeded to tell me how this was the area for the older ladies!!! Lmao!!! Paloma Picasso was also in the cabinet!! I was laughing my butt off 😂😂😂😂

You're absolutely right, most people seem to like a simple, generic, pleasant fragrance with not too much complexity to it. I own quite a few niche or at least unusual fragrances, but I get compliments when I wear Fantasy by Britney Spears, or Red Temptation by Zara, or Cloud by Ariana Grande. My niches are for me, not to please the crowd, because the crowd could not care less.
Hi Marielle! Absolutely. I wear the weird ones for my own enjoyment, and the mass appealing ones during social affairs. Cloud garners me many compliments also.
I am 44 and in my early 20s I worked at Dillards. Every morning before the store opened (I worked in the back, cleaning/stocking) I would run to the counter to douse myself in Amarige. I was surrounded by fragrances but she was "the one"! I am 100% with you... Scent for me is memory. And I am a nostalgic nut.

Such a great top ten and description/breakdown of why each made the cut! I was excited to watch this because you have such eclectic taste and are so open-minded when it comes to perfume (which I love) so I was curious to know what you would pick. Thé only fragrance i was sure would be in there was Still. 🙃 Really enjoyed your scent memory descriptions too like your mom and her leather coat, with the gum and 80’s fragrances. 👌🏼
I have hundreds of fragrances so it would be tough to choose just 10... but if there were a fire I would scoop up all my variations of Panthere de Cartier from 1986 (not to be confused with the current Cartier Panthere, which is nice enough, but a kitten by comparison). It's vintage (most of my collection is) and my very favorite of them all. BIG, of course, but smooth. Not sharp, doesn't singe the nose hairs off. It's an Amber Floral that I sometimes wear to bed when I really need a hug. Plus, the bottles are stupendous.

I blind bought Terracotta after hearing you speak about it and I absolutely love it! I've been wearing Still since it was released. Not my every day but it reminds me of an amazing time of my life and I'll always have it in my collection. I was 18 and had just spent a year working hard to save up for a 3 month trip to Brazil. I bought Still at the airport and then to my sheer delight I was bumped up to first class for the Auckland to Buenos Aires flight. I remember being doused in Still, drinking champagne, luxuriating in first class and feeling so grown up, so elegant and so excited for adult life to begin.

I just love the perfume bottle that you decanted JLo's Still into - so pretty! I read that decanting wasn't easy, and you could break the bottle while doing it. I would enjoy seeing a decant happen from start to finish. Thanks for your Fave list.
Thank you! 💖 Yes, trying to switch an entire bottle of fluid into another is tricky. If I remember correctly, I had my husband remove the atomizer components. There are videos on TH-cam about decanting.

I also fell in love with Burberry Her EDT this year. It has pretty good performance for an EDT and it has such a refreshing, tart, but delicate floralness. I’ve made a big dent in my bottle and almost wish I’d bought the biggest size.

A few months ago, I was looking to try an oud fragrance, and none of the stores near me have it in store. Not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on a blind buy, I ended up ordering Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud. It has become my favorite cold weather scent and I wear it on the daily. It is my most complimented fragrance, and I am madly in love with the caramel that it dries down to the next day as well. For Summer, I love Ellis Brooklyn Salt. I love that tang it has. I love to layer it with Maison Margiela Beach Walk

When I just started venturing niche fragrances, I fell in love with TT Andromeda, it might be my favorite or my preference over my other faves like Lost Cherry, Delina and BR540, it might be the one I would pick if I can only have 1 in that deserted island. I love Chinatown. My mother had some sachets in her drawer that smelled just like it so it reminds me of my mom. I can’t figure out who made those sachets but it’s so funny that so many years later a perfume would come out that smells just like them

Soleil Blanc is absolutely in my top ten for life. It is a masterpiece in my opinion. I couldn't live without it. Angels Share also makes my list. One of the most intoxicating fragrances I have ever stumbled on. 🥰 If it wasn't for YT, I would have never known about it. Others that make my list... Amarige. Chanel Chance. Aqua Allegoria Teazzurra. Profumi del Forte Roma Imperiale. Gucci Accenti, probably my favorite fragrance of life. Hard to come by anymore but if you can find it I recommend snatching a bottle for a reasonable price! It's the greatest Peach-forward perfume I've ever smelled. I've owned bottles since the mid-90's and I can't live without it.
Whenever I see Still I think of you! Lovely scent. me too I don't need a "groundbreaking" perfume. for instance Cashmere Vanilla Jasmine by Victoria's Secret is forever my favorite perfume of life
Vele sounds interesting. The notes sound amazing. I love a green fragrance. Herbae by L'occtiane is really nice. And thats green green. To add some fruit sounds nice. Coconut!?
Vele is very interesting in a sea of sweet gourmands flooding the market lately (and I love those, too!). L'Occitane's green leaning fragrances are pretty awesome.
At 26:50 I also love Black Orchid.. and believe or not It single-handidly revolutionized the fragrance industry as we know it today. It started the chain reaction of modern perfumary. I know.. I remember when it came out and how massive it was as far as popularity. And it was Tom Fords very first scent in his signature line. 🏵🏵
It certainly had a major part in shifting what we believe perfume "should" smell like! Do you enjoy it? It took me a while to grow into it but I love it now.
I think that you mentioned something very very important about perfume and yet simple. Wear what you actually like. Even the cheapies. Unfortunately, in my country the "perfume fan base" is very obnoxious and difficult to talk with, because basically, you have to wear 200 euros niche perfume only, or you cannot call yourself a perfume lover. Which is very silly. Thank you for reminding the obvious. It is needed 😉
My absolute favorite this year has been Perfect Intense by Marc Jacobs. Runner-up: I Want Choo by Jimmy Choo. Different fragrance styles but both very nice, in my opinion. Looking forward to checking out Bare by Victoria's Secret in case it smells like their fragrance Breathless from years ago - I still have a bit of Breathless perfume and lotion left in my small collection! But even if it's just a nice everyday fragrance, that'll be good, too. My next purchase I hope will be the berry fragrance by Burberry which comes in a pink bottle (I can't recall the fragrance name at the moment) - it seems perfect for winter.

You're absolutely right, most people seem to like a simple, generic, pleasant fragrance with not too much complexity to it. I own quite a few niche or at least unusual fragrances, but I get compliments when I wear Fantasy by Britney Spears, or Red Temptation by Zara, or Cloud by Ariana Grande.
My niches are for me, not to please the crowd, because the crowd could not care less.

I am 44 and in my early 20s I worked at Dillards. Every morning before the store opened (I worked in the back, cleaning/stocking) I would run to the counter to douse myself in Amarige. I was surrounded by fragrances but she was "the one"!

I have hundreds of fragrances so it would be tough to choose just 10... but if there were a fire I would scoop up all my variations of Panthere de Cartier from 1986 (not to be confused with the current Cartier Panthere, which is nice enough, but a kitten by comparison). It's vintage (most of my collection is) and my very favorite of them all. BIG, of course, but smooth. Not sharp, doesn't singe the nose hairs off. It's an Amber Floral that I sometimes wear to bed when I really need a hug. Plus, the bottles are stupendous.
The bottles ARE amazing on the Panthere line - some real effort went into making them! Thanks for weighing in with your most precious fragrance! 💖💖💖

I blind bought Terracotta after hearing you speak about it and I absolutely love it! I've been wearing Still since it was released. Not my every day but it reminds me of an amazing time of my life and I'll always have it in my collection. I was 18 and had just spent a year working hard to save up for a 3 month trip to Brazil. I bought Still at the airport and then to my sheer delight I was bumped up to first class for the Auckland to Buenos Aires flight. I remember being doused in Still, drinking champagne, luxuriating in first class and feeling so grown up, so elegant and so excited for adult life to begin.

I also fell in love with Burberry Her EDT this year. It has pretty good performance for an EDT and it has such a refreshing, tart, but delicate floralness. I’ve made a big dent in my bottle and almost wish I’d bought the biggest size.

A few months ago, I was looking to try an oud fragrance, and none of the stores near me have it in store. Not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on a blind buy, I ended up ordering Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud. It has become my favorite cold weather scent and I wear it on the daily. It is my most complimented fragrance, and I am madly in love with the caramel that it dries down to the next day as well. For Summer, I love Ellis Brooklyn Salt. I love that tang it has. I love to layer it with Maison Margiela Beach Walk

I love Chinatown. My mother had some sachets in her drawer that smelled just like it so it reminds me of my mom. I can’t figure out who made those sachets but it’s so funny that so many years later a perfume would come out that smells just like them

Soleil Blanc is absolutely in my top ten for life. It is a masterpiece in my opinion. I couldn't live without it. Angels Share also makes my list. One of the most intoxicating fragrances I have ever stumbled on. 🥰 If it wasn't for YT, I would have never known about it. Others that make my list... Amarige. Chanel Chance. Aqua Allegoria Teazzurra. Profumi del Forte Roma Imperiale. Gucci Accenti, probably my favorite fragrance of life. Hard to come by anymore but if you can find it I recommend snatching a bottle for a reasonable price! It's the greatest Peach-forward perfume I've ever smelled. I've owned bottles since the mid-90's and I can't live without it.

Vele is very interesting in a sea of sweet gourmands flooding the market lately (and I love those, too!). L'Occitane's green leaning fragrances are pretty awesome.
At 26:50 I also love Black Orchid.. and believe or not It single-handidly revolutionized the fragrance industry as we know it today. It started the chain reaction of modern perfumary. I know.. I remember when it came out and how massive it was as far as popularity. And it was Tom Fords very first scent in his signature line. 🏵🏵
It certainly had a major part in shifting what we believe perfume "should" smell like! Do you enjoy it? It took me a while to grow into it but I love it now.
I think that you mentioned something very very important about perfume and yet simple. Wear what you actually like. Even the cheapies.
Unfortunately, in my country the "perfume fan base" is very obnoxious and difficult to talk with, because basically, you have to wear 200 euros niche perfume only, or you cannot call yourself a perfume lover. Which is very silly.

My absolute favorite this year has been Perfect Intense by Marc Jacobs. Runner-up: I Want Choo by Jimmy Choo. Different fragrance styles but both very nice, in my opinion. Looking forward to checking out Bare by Victoria's Secret in case it smells like their fragrance Breathless from years ago - I still have a bit of Breathless perfume and lotion left in my small collection! But even if it's just a nice everyday fragrance, that'll be good, too. My next purchase I hope will be the berry fragrance by Burberry which comes in a pink bottle (I can't recall the fragrance name at the moment) - it seems perfect for winter.
