I attended many master classes. Starker had three chairs. He sat in the middle, on his was his cello, on the right was a huge ash tray. I can’t take the smoke either. I was in my early 20s then. But if I had been a bit older, I would have gone up to him and urged him to stop smoking. Though he lived to almost 90, he would have likely made it to 100 if he had stopped smoking, and he would have performed longer as well. I remember him demonstrating with a cigarette in his bowing hand while playing. So sad. And the pharmaceutical companies and tobacco companies are evil.
Awesome:) He's so amazing! And I like how he was a humongous painting of himself up right there so everybody can see it:)
And all the booze on the shelf!😋
I approve of the painting though: there's no hope of greatness if you have low self-esteem.
my favorite cello player...
Mine too
And mine
Yes. Breathing and singing inwardly .no music comes out without these inside. As Menuhin said of Grapelli : he dances on the vion "
No words for this amazing video... THANKS!!!
Great video. Even as a violinist, I can learn a lot from watching this!
This is SO SO appreciated. Pure pearls of wisdom, all he says. Thanks you.
El hombre a sus 87 años no perdía la habilidad... genio sin duda...
Thank you for sharing!!
This is a treasure! :D
Thank you thank you thank you
Es un maestro en todos los sentidos!
This is amazing!
I love how when he starts ranting about what it means to carry the flag they just cut it lol Starker is a legend.
Contrary to what is stated above, the "Hungarian Rhapsody" was composed by David Popper, not by Starker (who is the performer here).
It is posted on the screen. 10'25''
Can anyone tell me what the piece is that’s being played in the beginning of this video??
What are the names of the students playing? They sound good!
יופי של סרטון. מעניין שיש גם תמונה קטנה של ברהמס על הקיר.
I couldn't have taken the smoke.

so beautiful
Is indoor smoking allowed in the studio? Just wondering...
Janos Starker
maitre
Janos Starker is for me the most unmusical Cellist of all time. A roboter would play with more Heart and feelings
Maybe it’s the other way around in that you’re the robot that can’t hear feeling and heart.
@@thriftdig ooooh you're clever
HaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA funny
No! Starker is the best.
