It was season 74 when I started to enjoy watching volleyball and aside from Dzi Gervacio , it was really Alyssa Valdez who caught my attention. She is very athletic, down to Earth and a leader. She puts her heart in every game and support her teammates. Admirable in a sense that her hard work is not only seen in terms of how she spikes ,blocks, serves , digs and receives but through how she deals with people. Circa 2014 when I first saw alyssaa play it was the finals of UAAP woman's volleyball. It was also the first time that it was broadcast live in abs-cbn main channel and not in SnA. I was 14 at that time and had 0% interest in volleyball bcos I was not that sporty after all. But that day after watching alyssa play together with her team and win their first ever championship something changed in me. That dreamless girl finally had a dream. I could never agree more when this documentary said that Alyssa was the reason why Philippine volleyball was finally known. Spending my youth on supporting her and the whole ALE girls was one of the best things I ever did.

But you can never reach that point unless there is humanity in you that your fans connect with and want to emulate. With her humility, exuberance and approachability, she deserves to be idolize. I'm in tears right now, again. Have watched this multiple times since its airing pero grabe yung feels. Looking back, grabe yung excitement ko every game kapag Ateneo na yung game. I even skipped classes every Wednesday if schedule nila... Followed her in all her volleyball career... I just love Alyssa!!!
Alyssa was why and how I developed an interest to watch volleyball...and cheered for Ateneo despite the fact that I'm from a rival university. Well, except when Ateneo played against our team...which they often beat anyway. But I guess that's why Alyssa was/is a phenom; she makes you loyal -- not to a team, or to a school, or even a sport; she makes you value perseverance despite hardship, grounded in the face of triumph, humble amidst the din of adulation. She makes you appreciate the attainability of excellence. I just love her for everything she stands for.

I even skipped classes every Wednesday if schedule nila... Followed her in all her volleyball career... I just love Alyssa!!!
Alyssa was why and how I developed an interest to watch volleyball...and cheered for Ateneo despite the fact that I'm from a rival university. Well, except when Ateneo played against our team...which they often beat anyway. But I guess that's why Alyssa was/is a phenom; she makes you loyal -- not to a team, or to a school, or even a sport; she makes you value perseverance despite hardship, grounded in the face of triumph, humble amidst the din of adulation. She makes you appreciate the attainability of excellence. I just love her for everything she stands for.
