But as what Coach Roger said, he made Alyssa the center of Ateneo Volleyball, to which he extended to the Philippine Volleyball. Grabe rin kasi perseverance ni Alyssa, and Coach really saw her character. I love you both! Thank you for bringing me to the volleyball community since 2014.

In my book, Coach Roger's greatest achievement are not the championships but 2 things: him being a cancer survivor and him getting Alyssa to where she is right now.. Saludo ako sayo coach
And it’s very true, and still holds up to this day, whether you agree or not, PH volleyball started garnering a massive massive fan base, when Allyssa Valdez started playing for Ateneo. She’s definitely not the best player in the country anymore but she WAS, and the contribution she’s made and done to PH volleyball will forever be there.

Nice interview. Very touching. Kakatuwa yon sinusundo sa LRT si Alyssa. Recruiting Alyssa to play for Ateneo together with the fab5 improved the play of the ADMU WV team which made matches against DLSU more exciting. In a way, this ADMU-DLSU rivalry in WV got more people interested in volleyball. It can be said that Coach Roger had a hand in lifting the status of volleyball as a popular sport. We even now have professional leagues which continue to provide jobs and opportunities to volleyball players even after college. Kudos to you, Coach Roger! Side story. I once saw Coach Roger at a Mercury Drug branch. He was much thinner then, probably just newly recovered from his sickness, but I still recognized him as I'm a fan of UAAP WV, a staunch supporter of the DLSU Lady Spikers. I went up to him and said "Good morning, coach." He acknowledged my greeting with a smile. Mukha siyang mabait and I'm even more convinced now after watching this interview.
