I don’t feel Grace Dent should have been interviewed for this. She says that there are no bold and interesting female characters that are funny in their own way, which is blatantly false and something Mitchell and Webb contradict about twenty seconds later, and then that Mark “wants to do drugs and be fun but can’t bring himself too deep down”. Mark only turns to drugs when he is either truly desperate, and temporarily unable to maintain his cynical, conservative facade, or when he basically turns into a stuck-up version of Jeremy in series 9 due to his personal failures driving him paranoid and slightly insane.
Her point was about how Peep Show breaks the cliché and _does_ have interesting funny women. You missed her point entirely lol she was describing typical comedy show females and pointing out the difference.
He did. He apparently was publicly furious at BAFTA for never even nominating it for any awards, saying it was the best British sitcom since Father Ted.

When you compare their public personas with their characters in Peep Show you just think "they've got to be writing it themselves, it's basically just an exaggerated version of what you would imagine their lives to be like". Considering they've done it for seven series now it's almost life imitating art but looks like art imitating life.
