Chinchilla is signed with a label but with an important difference, she signed with UMG's Island Records but under her own terms and releases via her own dedicated imprint (effectively her own mini label). Her last two tracks - Cut You Off and MF Diamond - have been relased through this arrangement and Little Girl Gone was added to her label catalogue as well. After Chinchilla's independently released track Little Girl Gone became such a viral hit a number of the big labels came knocking on her door, including UMG who also sign the winner of the UK Voice (although to a different sub-label). It seems UMG recognised Chinchilla's talent and decided to work with her regardless of not progressing on the Voice, a similar thing occured with Becky Hill previously as well when she was on the Voice. Chinchilla decided to sign as the admin/management side of music making was eating up too much of her time meaning she wasn't able to dedicate the level of time to her artistry that she wished. p.s. interesting sidenote - Sam Tompkins is also signed with Island Records. Ren releases through The Other Songs, who act for his publishing and label needs.
They're not looking for actual artists, they're looking for glorified karaoke singers who can mimic Beyonce and make millions by flogging crap they didn't write to artistically ignorant audiences. Their business is about producing garbage for profit, not about promoting art. The music industry hasn't been interested in actual art, or meaning, since the Grunge era in the early 90s.

The long nails weren't something she normally wore before her singing career, from what I've heard, she had pretty bad stage fright when she was first starting out, and a friend suggested creating an onstage persona, and just get into character or become that person before getting on stage. Apparently her friend gave good advice and she created Chinchilla, wearing a somewhat crazy outfit, with the crazy fingernails and it worked, she said she felt much more confident. After that Chinchilla was not Chinchilla until them nails were on. Also she makes all her own outfits you see in her videos. As usual, great reaction guys!! ✌💚

Talking about her facial expressions and such, that is why Ren describes her as his musical sibling. They both have a way of expressing the music through their body, as well as their vocals/instruments. Chinchilla is a bad ass! She should be way more famous!

I see lots of different influence’s when I watch Chinchilla, but one constant one is Kate Bush. The outfits, the pronunciation, the quirks, the quintessentially Englishness of it all.
I like the fingers symbolism you touched on. I think this is a song about agency. It expresses some of the rage we feel when someone misuses theirs to destroy ours. We use our hands to do or facilitate almost everything a human does. Cutting off someone's fingers would make them fundamentally impotent (as some might say they deserve, since they abused power when they had it) while she's here with her freedom and agency still intact, and the fingers used to express them celebrated with every adornment available.
This is singlehandedly my favourite live performance of the past 25 years, she is off the frigging scale in all areas, I simply love her! A few months ago on Ren's Patreon he posted a 19 second teaser of a song the two of them were working on and the vibe was just awesome, something that really could explode!!! This is just the perfect performance to show why Ren and her are musical siblings. They both have that something special that demands attention. And I love how powerful a message she is sending with this one. This is the girl power role model young girls need right now.
I agree she should have more views on YT, but TikTok is more her home platform. She also has twice the monthly listeners on Spotify as Ren. Little Girl Gone was a viral hit and had radio play and mainstream media attention.
I don't think there will be many people recommending the song by her that I'm about to because it's not very well known but even if you don't make a video about it you should definitely have a listen to a song by Chinchilla called "Demand Respect". It's not on her regular TH-cam channel it's on a channel called "Chinchilla - Topic" and it has no music video just a cool ass photo but if you liked the bridge of this song, you'll love the bridge of that one. She's an absolutely face melting singer.
I heard someone else point out that she's actually saying, "woman scarred" not scorned which is soo much better in the context of the song. And to take such a well known phrase and tweek it just that little bit 👌
Chinchilla is actually named Daisy and she's said she is shy so she puts the nails on as her armor and becomes Chinchilla ❤ and this particular hat is made of a towel ❤
Chinchilla doesn't have an extensive library of videos and her previous two albums didn't really highlight her singing voice (IMO) - they seem more geared to finding a unique, sellable sound. Supposedly she has a new record deal with tons of artistic freedom and Ren mentioned that they just recorded two new studio songs together. I think she's just now finding her stride and I look forward to some great stuff in the future.

I love that Chinchilla's main message is empowerment! She speaks to many women who feel they don't have a voice. You should watch Little Girl Gone. I prefer the live Requiem version, although others like the studio video version. Both good. I just always prefer live.
