Scotty Kilmer I have a 2010 ford focus and I replace the pump and pulley and the hose and still make that sounds when I turn
How do you know for sure if your power steering pump is bad? I have an 04 330i BMW and this morning it just went out..easy to drive but hard to make turns
@@Tone-ff2bx if your power steering goes bad you'll know, believe me.
Thanks for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you tried - Patlarny Vehicle History Principle (probably on Google)? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to repair your car the simple way without the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate at very last got great results with it.
Scotty, mean this from the bottom of my heart man. You have taught me so much on how to do stuff myself that otherwise couldn't have been done. You have saved me so much money that has gone to feeding my family and keeping the lights on, instead of to service shops. I thank you for all the advise, how to's, and the confidence you have helped me gain. Would love to use some of the money saved to buy you a beer some day. Cheers mate ! -Mike
SKINGRIPZ HG agree with you 💯 percent
Agreed
Scotty these Bros are right. Without you Scotty-Bro, I would be only fixing chains on my own on my own bicycle to get places... Thanks Dudebros! Sincerely, Bro-Dude.
AGREED!
Everybody thinks I'm an incredible mechanic.
It's all Scotty
Thanks, dude.

Dr. Scott K.!! Thanks for this video. I bought myself a pulley removal/installer kit and it works!!
Gracias!!!
-Mark
Just replaced the power steering unit on my 87 s10 blazer. The pulley / installer tool is a must as you can't get to the mounting bolts with the pulley attached. I was surprised that you didn't address the need to flush the old fluid from the system prior to installing and filling the reservoir again. Love your videos.
@MoneyMarcMes I use stuff I've gotten over the years. Snap On is just a rip off company now, overpriced and most of their stuff is now made in China too. Scotty
This guy is king. I followed his advice on replacing a master cylinder. He cuts to the chase and does not annoy with yada, yada, yada, as in other shop videos.
Scotty, man you're my go to on here when I'm stuck. Then I feel like a noob 🤣 thanks man,plz don't ever quit
Scotty you are great and have such a command of car mechanics and operation. You astound me. Thanks for all your input on your vids!
You're an absolute legend and have great videos/advice, thanks so much
Thank you very much Scotty watching your video. Twice I just realized that my problem will be the gear box .have a great year man and thanks for share your knowledge
Thank you for this info. I'm a women and I don't think I could ever do this on my own from the information I just got from a mechanic who changed my oil. They told me that the job will take the at least 4 hrs, cost of the steering pump $129.00 three hrs labor total cost $460. I wish I lived near you
I love how old school he is. Calling the serpentine belt a fan belt made me smile. It hasn't been a fan belt in 25 years. I love that. And this man is so knowledgeable. If he says something is right then it's right and if he says something is wrong then it's wrong. This man has been working on cars longer than most of us have been alive. I don't know that that's true about me because I'm 42 years old but still he's been doing this so long that he could probably do it in his sleep.
I get so happy every time I have a question about my car and you have a video to answer me. You make me laugh every time!
Your videos are the best I have seen. The same troubleshooting issues are the same on the 2002 Ford Taurus SE. When I jacked up the car. I noticed black residue of power steering fluid beneath my vehicle near the right wheel on passenger side and not on the driver's side right below where the pump sits. I want to make sure that is the pump and not a bad power steering hose leak before working on it.
Just realized I wasn't subscribed! Another how-to-video gem from Mr. Scotty! Thank you sir!
excellent video...fast and precise!! not alot of annoying irrelevant info....THANK YOU
I love this guys videos and energy thank you sir for this amazing video!
Thank you Sir! you are so good for car Mechanics.I do appreciate.
Scotty you are the man...if only I can change it as fast as your video shows!
I like the use of Lucas power steering fluid Scotty. Keep up the great videos!
love his energy!
Thanks Scotty,you've been immensely helpful.
Thanks Scotty, Your videos are very helpful keep up the great work
I thought so ! Good I did it twice now and it seems more clean and quite. Thanks!
Thank you so much Scotty. Your my favorite micanic.
Scotty you rock! I like your attitude and your helpfulness in these videos. Thanks..
@Rookerfy sure, could even have been a blocked pressure hose, But it wasn't. This fixed it.
@UrbanGin Yes, could be any of those, but you'd have to take the engine apart to do valves or piston slap. Generally those occurs from over revving the engine. Scotty
What's the chance! I go looking for a video on how to replace a CTS-V1 power steering pump but settled for this less specific video. And lo' and behold your fixing the power steering on a CTS-V by chance! What are the odds!
great vid! this is the exact car I have too! thanks so much for saving me hundreds of dollars! plz keep up the great videos!
Always a great help. Thanks
holy hell i just bought a cts v and it whines like mad this video will come in handy, saved!
I totally love this dude. He is so optimistic and straightforward, he really gets me into a positive mood, I watched all his videos, although I'm not very much into cars and mechanics. I like his style, he totally rulz over cars. I even try to imitate his accent when I do some small maintenance to my VW Golf. I live in rural France, in Europe, and lately I use the phrase "nice and snug", when I tight some bolts back on.
I bleed them with another re manufacturer power pump and works perfectly fine. :). really smooth now no more groaning. Thanks a lot scotty.
Love your videos, simple and to the point and most of all funny

Hey snotty just wanted I did as per your recommendation and she's as quiet as a library in the turns now, thank you.
Best repair video I have ever seen thanks also very funny thanks again
You rock my man!!! Never stop please! I just liked this vid...
Your my go to guy. Thanks Scotty.
the grunting noise you make makes me laugh/smile every time lol, great videos keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I took my replacement rebuilt back to Autozone and they replaced it, no problem...I'm almost done with installing the replacement of the replacement...fingers crossed...eyes, too... I do NOT want to hear that groaning again...if I do, then I'm gonna take it personal.. :-)
Your videos are great! I love your shirt.
Great video! I wonder how long all this really would take...diagnosis, taking stuff off, getting the new pump, putting it back on....I'm guessing 2 hours, and that's with a competent mechanic.
@rauldsc1 depends on the make and model, all are different. But any auto parts store will loan you a kit if you buy parts from them.
Great video and I like it hopefully get some more video!
@TheGazdik depends what part is worn, have one guy pull on the wheel while the other looks for parts with play. Often a worn steering box on those though.
I've got a 99 Sable as well, and we did the awesomely fun lock-lock bleeding of the air out of the system to get the power steering to work again... it's not leaking, thinking a rough road got air into the system since the reservoir contains a good amount of air. It makes less noise after bleeding it than it did last year when we bought the car.
scotty videos are a very big help,,
@MikeTheITGuy only way you can test em is with a power steering pressure testing kit, they cost a ton. Hoses are cheap aftermarket, I'd try that first.
Excellent.
And I'm living free till I die!
I dont have the tools for any of this but I will still subscribed because I learn every video
@My96XJ in such cases, I cut the hose off near the nut with a grinder or hacksaw. Then a normal socket goes right in and comes off easy. You're throwing the old one away anyway
Nice! You remind me of my old high school shop teacher.
thanks, lots of help
Thank you so much for your answer i will try this right away !
thanks man :) and also for your fast replay keep it up :)
@shaazy of course tighten the belt if it's loose, but that's often a worn pump if you have bubbles. Scotty
I think scottys as popular as he is Becouse he's such a likable guy and a wealth of knowledge! Thanks scotty!
Whenever introducing air into the power steering system like this, you just lift the front of the vehicle on Jack stands and with the car off, key on, rotate the steering wheel lock to lock to bleed the air out before starting it.
very helpful comment. thanks man
The only reason I watched this particular Scotty video was to know best way to bleed the air out. I’ll give this a shot.
i worship you Scott , thanks a million
@scottykilmer thats cool we can see different repairs on different cars .
Hey Scotty love the videos, quick question though. Ive got a power steering fluid leak and when i went to a shop they told me it was a filter leak, but were gonna charge me 160 for a whole new pump and then 90 for the labor. If its just a filter leak then do i really need to replace the whole pump itself? or are they just trying to get my money? Or does it just happen to be worlds easier to replace the pump than a filter in the pump? Thank you!
Thank you Scotty!
this is about flushing power steering, but if you're talking about engine oil flushes, only do them if the oil is really crudded up inside, which of course should not be the case if you maintain it correctly in the first place
This guy's video is kinda dorky, but he's entertaining and a really good teacher.
It does bolt off like this video, just not that much working room, but it can be done by anyone handy with wrenches.
Awesome T-shirt, Scotty!!!
Love your "live free or die" shirt!!
parts can be bent or damaged doing that work, like tie rods or ball joints or strut mounts that would effect steering. Odds are something else like a steering rack isn't going to go bad as you change the struts. but often no self centering is a bad rack
Scotty you the man
Thank you so much you are awesome !!
I wish I could fix everything like you in 3 minutes. Funny video and I like it !!!
get some electrical test gear like a power probe III and good jack and jack stands too
thanks, very useful
Very helpful!
@catburner most modern cars are self bleeding, just run it and the air purges itself just by turning the wheels back and forth.
Hey Scotty can you do a vid on fixing GMC safari problems thx bud love your channel!
@HussamStands actually jacking it up and turning it wheel to wheel does work on some cars, by removing the strain of vehicle weight on the system. Scotty
Great Vid!
Omg you made that look so easy
Thank you Scotty this video is gonna come in handy. I just blew my power steering doing donuts...
Same bro, did you end up fixing it? Was it the pump or did you have to replace the hose too? Mine was a cadillac cts 05.
@fordwindsor351 what's in a name. the tensioner pulley is the one, but really, it's an idler pulley too. you just use the one that moves, one will move back and forth, the other won't.
You r legend mate
I love Scotty Kilmer! This guy saves my butt!
I always knew scotty was a man of class, but seeing him in a mustang? Even more respect
Ok!! Thanks for your fast reply!!!
hey scotty i love your videos, can you do a video for novice diy newbies maybe on basic tool kit suggestions for you videos. Thanks!
You made this look so easy.
Yes, remanned units often STINK, I try never to use em. Last time i tried, it groaned like mad until I put a brand new one on, and it was silent
really thank u. U are really nice person. Really cool u give advice for free. DO not think that i am using it but i really need help here where i live people has no clue about cars specialy USa CARS.. So sad. WHen i had ford focus ghia, they did not know to repair well.
Scotty is the man. Never have I watched an instruction video that was so informative yet so short. Everything you need to know! Including what tools you need! Awesome! My new go to for automotive answers.
Must of left a nice scar. You're a lucky man Scotty! Inspiring me to wear gloves now. haha
YAY! another good vid.
@XHikotheproX it's a caddie engine, GM shares many engines in many vehicles.
@Matthew55904 Yes, most GM systems use that same pulley, cheap press on, instead of bolt on. Pumps lower on yours, much harder to get off. Scotty
@scottykilmer Thanks again for your response and for the video. I installed the new pump and everything is great. Oddly, Autozone gave me one with the pulley already attached so that was a nice break. Also, the fluid reservoir had a metal "screen" near the bottom that was almost completely clogged up (which probably is what caused the pump to die in the first place). Thank god for google or I never would have figured that one out. A little carb cleaner opened it right up.
