    Finally I understand this filter. Fantastic video you made it clrystal clear. I would say the character of the filter si so sweet, tamed and pleasant sounding. Mr Rolando did a really original work here. Cheers. Edit: I would love a DFAM vs QPAS video.I love DFAM but is a bit too much noisy/grittier/harsh most times than not. Probably replacing the ladder with the QPAS would reach delicious and fluffier techno soundscapes.

    I think the wildcard thing is great because it can lead you places you wouldn't have gone on your own. Part of the appeal of modular synthesis is happy accidents, right?
    I may be wrong, but in addition to the decay envelope modulating the frequencies, it looks like the wildcard input augments the resonance amounts on those filter cores as well.
    Waiting for mine to show up so I can investigate further!

    @1:49 The input level knob... Why many filters don't have them and others do? For example Tiptop Audio Forbidden Planet. It has as many as three inputs, LP, HP and BP, and none of them have level control. Is that because it's a cheap filter?

  • @SandcastleTheory
    @SandcastleTheory 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The musical applications of this filter would be so much further reaching if the volt-per-octave tracking were more accurate. Interesting module though, and much fun to be had regardless. Cheers!

    • @ComparativeIrrelevance
      @ComparativeIrrelevance 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts exactly! Shame it doesn't track accurately without the workaround.

    • @aeropilot4419
      @aeropilot4419 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comparative Irrelevance simple work around tho 🙂

    • @ComparativeIrrelevance
      @ComparativeIrrelevance 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aeropilot4419 Yes, it's simple enough in terms of using few patch cables and no external modules. But that means the tuning will effectively need to be "calibrated" every time it's patched up this way, which - in my experience - is usually way more finicky than it looks here. Especially getting the tracking to stay somewhat accurate across more than one octave. Then it only takes a tiny touch on that attenuverter to completely mess it up mid-patch. Not to mention both frequency CV inputs are now in use, so to add something like a subtle vibrato to the tones it's playing is going to take much more work than it otherwise would.
      If there's a way to calibrate the un-attenuated CV input so that it tracks consistently, then that would greatly facilitate using this as a musical sound source (and this module seems like it could be a wonderfully unusual "chord machine"). Being able to just throw it in on a whim, without muting whatever else is going on in a patch and breaking out the tuner and reference tones, would make a big difference I think.

    • @aeropilot4419
      @aeropilot4419 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comparative Irrelevance totally agree ... would not use in a 1v/octave capacity, but like the filtering 👍🏻✨

    Anyone else use this as the end of their signal path as a stereo VCA/filter?
    How does that work for you?
    My signal path still isn't done, but it would be effectively replacing an old Korgasmatron II/needs more VCA power anyway.
    This is before the audio I/O / IU stuff and Outs in my Intellijel 7U
    For now, I have the stereo headphones output and need to replace the old audio jacks, but *shrug*.
    Before I go heavy into those jacks, cause I'm not doing any live sets and just need a signal path to work out of bed with, would it work ok if the resonance was low enough if you had like...
    How do inverted out outputs for CV from mixers like a Mutamix or Erica Fusion mixer *or both combined and attenuated* Work with the VCA of this if you put it before like... My stereo headphones and eventually stereo out *once I upgrade the jacks* ?
    How does that work for you? Inverted CV Outputs into a QPAS?
    How do you use it in your signal chain? I'm REALLY curious cause it seems more on sale.

    You may have figured out now but just in case and also for other people who read the comments : it is possible to make it auto oscillate by putting left LP out to right IN and right BP to left IN.
    From this configuration, V/oct is working well.
    Got this tip from Divkid video wich is cool and longer than yours but your video is pretty nice and efficient. It goes directly to the cool stuff of this module.
    Thanks for your quality work

    @8:00 sounds almost like a physical modeling sort of sound. Super cool, might have to pick this thing up just for its unique capabilities. Thought I was good on filters after getting the SSF Stereo Dipole but this thing seems to have something I didn't even know I needed.

  • @23jimi
    @23jimi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could the wildcard inputs also be increasing resonance for the filters it modulates? Makes sense as a 'ping' style input and isnt something you can do from the panel

  • @Dogboy73

    Awesome module. Definitely on the shirt list. I heard the Make Noise dude (forget his name) saying that the QPAS requires a lot of power & gets hot. I have a TipTop Zues power module, not too dissimilar to the Arturia power module you have. I'm assuming this will be fine. I only have a small Happy Ending kit with only a few modules currently.
