How about when your jbox is literally not in the wall and there aren't any screws to tap it into the wall? The plug isn't sagging the entire jbox is coming out of the wall lmao
Check the box. There is a type that has screws that turn levers that hook the box behind the wall. The levers may have turned down. If that is not the case, replace it with a box that does hook behind the wall.
Another scenario I have seen is where the whole j box is loose. Not sure what to do about that (actually was hoping your video was talking about that LOL)
@@mattlipkin1926hi, try this, I put a double socket + usb charging with a back back plate 'shelf' had the same problem one side of box loose on wall, I have extra long screws to compenate for the backplate, the 2 lugs that are in the electrical box act as some sort of retaining wedge when the two screws are tightened up, the 2 internal lugs need to be moved forward and you can see when you insert the retaining screws where the screws will go, you have to do the screws up so it pulls the the socket to the wall, you do a little bit on each screw so you do it evenly, this worked for me, please turn the electricity off that feeds the socket circuit, ...if those internal locating lugs stay to the back of the electrical box they are not doing their job to wedge the box in the wall, cheers

Hi, your videos are great! I have an electrical junction box that is coming out of the wall when the plug is pulled out. The full jbox and outlet are coming out of the wall (so the jbox seems to not be attached to anything). I appreciate any tips for fixing this!
Some good information here but a little tip for future videos. Less talk. Get right to the point. No hand shots of the hand moving around when you're talking and just get right to the point. No lecturing about anything. Just get right to the point. And again good information
Black course thread drywall screws will usually work well, as their threads are wider. The wall plate will cover the slightly extended head of the drywall screw. Often times the more robust Phillips head of the drywall screw will tap into the box better than the flimsy soft head of the factory 6-32 machine screw head. This may not be code, but I've used it dozens of times. This is similar to the suggested wood screw fix, but much studier.
Sometimes the plastic box itself is not flush with the wall, and is sagging as well, old work box supports will clip on the box, and crimp to the drywall when tightened to pull the box back into the wallboard.
Hi just found your page. I live with my grandmother and aunt. ( helping them out) we have had an outlet in the basement that has always sagged from the outlet. We are talking at least 35+ years. Anyone have any advice on how I could possible fix this issue. This video was very helpful. My concern is if there is a bigger issue. I tried to explain an we need an electrician. But at 32 I’m still a child lmao
I'm going to try the glue and plastic piece with scenario#1. It's a round box for a light fixture in the basement and the box doctor wouldn't work. Thanks! So frustrating to think the job is done until you try to put two screws in and it won't work. I didn't strip it, it was a broken light fixture than wasn't fixed.
Thank you, will investigate on Friday what’s up with that loose socket in my bathroom, but I am brave now to go for it. It took me 9 years of fearing electrical but thank to you and your detailed logical tutorial - not anymore
Thanks for sharing this info 🙏 Will it be safe to continue to use the power outlet if it became saggy? It happened today and I thought since everything functioning as normal, so I just thought to fix next few days after observed it is ok for a day after it dropped off from the cracked wall. I used this for a normal size fridge. please kindly advice 🙏
Hi! Personally since it has come off the wall I would deem it UNSAFE, even if it’s not a high traffic outlet. I would turn the power OFF from the breaker and get the receptacle (outlet) fixed as soon as possible, please be safe 🙏🏽
For the electrical box.. put a wood screw in there and its should hold... (on a plastic box) if the box is destroyed in anyway and you can tell. pull it out after shutting of the circuit and change the box. also it doesn't hurt to but in a GFCI receptacle in if your working on it anyway. code changed recently and its walking towards everything pretty much being GFCI and AFCI protected in residential
The new code didn't expand the locations where GFCIs are required (basically outside, garages, basements and anything within 6 feet of water), they just no longer restrict it to 15 and 20A 120V outlets. You now have to put them on all 120 and 240V circuits in these locations. You really don't want random outlets in the house as GFCI. When they nuisance trip they kill all the outlets downstream and then you don't know where to look for the problem. If you're that worried about needing GFCI in your house, replace the breakers with GFCI breakers. At least then you'll know where to reset them up until you get fed up with them tripping and rip them out in a rage.
My whole box pulls out of the wall when pulling the plug. I've searched for what to do but these are the videos that come up. The problem is, a guy drywalled over old plasterwork and he didn't fasten the damn boxes to anything! How do I fix that without tearing apart the wall!
Thanks for the video! What causes all my outlets to come lose is that it’s becoming so difficult to plug and remove appliances. What’s a good way to make this smoother? Can I use WD40?
My dude, I fixed mine today. After 10 years. Everytime I would iron my clothes, I would pull the iron plug and the top part would pull with it. Was driving me CRAZY!! The top screw wasn't catching. I pulled off the face plate and used a slightly beefier screw to hold the plugs in. It worked!!! I'm beyond ecstatic. Such a simple fix.
My metal J Box appeared to be stripped. I tested this out by inserting a new screw of the same size but a little longer and it was easy to pull out with my fingers. So I took a screw with larger threads and it worked like a charm.
I if you factor in how much and time it takes to replace a box, then it’s totally how much you want to spend replacing the box via this quick fix. 🤷🏽♂️
Great solutions! Thanks... My issue is somewhat different. Yes, the smoke alarm pulls away from the ceiling. The j-box has dog ears to hold it into the ceiling for an interconnected smoke alarm system. After loosening the two adjacent screws holding the j-box I found both dog ears had been broken off... Who ever installed the box probable used an impact driver. Since the ceiling drywall is NOT damaged, i'll just install a new j-box. I'm glad it's easily fixed. Thanks again for your quality videos.
Thank you! I used fix #2. Got a different problem: the cover now will not tighten to the outlet itself. The screw goes in so far and then spins. The cover is now lose.

I know right?! I was stunned to have found that product! It’s legit! Have a great weekend brother! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽

Same!
Tip #5 is for replacing the entire box.

How do you fix a sagging electrical box. It’s Keri’s sliding out of the hole in the dry wall

No wtf I liked the information he said. Stop giving bad advice.

What if the box itself is sagging not the outlet
My receptacle box has just fell out of the wall.
What about a sagging metal box on outlet there is no stud its mounted too
The whole outlet box is coming out of the wall
Sometimes the plastic box itself is not flush with the wall, and is sagging as well, old work box supports will clip on the box, and crimp to the drywall when tightened to pull the box back into the wallboard.
This my problem, but my drywall isn't supporting the box. How could I fix it?

Looks like my three way light switch plate is loose because "the box behind it is loose". Not sure how to secure it.
What about studless boxes

How about box sagging out
Some sockets just dont sit in the wall box properly. Some dont even fit.

The whole box flops in the wall when you pull your cord out, if the sheet rockers cut the hole around the outlet too big
The ziptie trick worked great! Wood screws with a wider thread seem like a good idea too
Thanks for making this video and sharing my kitchen pics 😄
Ofcourse! Thank you for inspiring me to make this video! 🙏🏽😊 I hope you found a way to solve this problem! Keep me posted 👍🏽😊
Mine the entire box moves in and out of the wall!!!!

My hole that was cut is too big, and the whole box is hanging out.

Wow ! I never knew the box doctor ever existed. Thank u. U are very clever.
I’m glad I could be of help! 👍🏽🙏🏽😊
I have this happening with a light fixtures round box above our bathroom mirror. Any tips on those? I think the round box is coming out.
Thanks for the video! What causes all my outlets to come lose is that it’s becoming so difficult to plug and remove appliances. What’s a good way to make this smoother? Can I use WD40?
What if you have no visible box?
And what if I have a concrete wall?
What if the junction box is too far? (Deep in the wall) the screw can’t reach the hole…
Use a box extender. Home Depot has the ReceptXtenders brand and others.
Thanks for sharing work in an old building all the boxes are mess up this will help.
Thank you for watching! I wish you the best on your project! 👍🏽😊🙏🏽
Thanks for the advice really helpful you helped me

Metal box rusted and fall off
I once used silicone sealant to fix a loose socket n its holds well 5 years later
Such a simple fix.
on yhe metal one what if the hole is broken?
My metal J Box appeared to be stripped. I tested this out by inserting a new screw of the same size but a little longer and it was easy to pull out with my fingers. So I took a screw with larger threads and it worked like a charm.
The piece of zip tie did the trick perfectly! Thank you!
The box is not flush with the wall .
You could also fill the hole with hot glue and let dry, and also you could use tooth picks if you don't have any zip ties
those "box doctors" are $2 each...f that a new box costs less.
I if you factor in how much and time it takes to replace a box, then it’s totally how much you want to spend replacing the box via this quick fix. 🤷🏽♂️
Nice alot of helpful tricks. Thanks !

just put some plumbers tape around your screw until it's tight enough to screw in.
I live in a mobile home and tete is no j box what do I do.
Good content. Please make your videos shorter.
Missing screw post due to rust outlet embedded into cement wall
My outlet is causing my breaker box to trip
What if it is blocked by broken screw?
OMG Thank You!!!

Great tips! Thank you!

Thanks.i learn something.

Thanks for the visual in my head. 😆
i have a couple of receptacles loose and will try your ideas. Thanks!
I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow.
Helpful, thank you!!

This is not Junction box, it's utilities box for switch or outlet

That don’t do nothing . Are you crazy. That has no threads. It’s a flat plate. The first repair.
Sounds like he's just trying to sell a product.
@Incognito1786 his tip on another video (maybe not his) worked for me by inserting a wood screw instead of replacing with a new #6 32 machine screw.
