I just did this hike 3 weeks ago and let me tell you that there are no words to describe the feeling when you get to the top. It is a life experience that you won’t forget.
Being afraid of heights, I doubt I'll ever be hiking this trail. I REALLY appreciate you posting this for those of us who will never experience it in person.
I'm terrified of heights. Hiked this trail and froze just before the stairs.. took me a while to focus, but I did it. Still freak out looking at it now, but the falls make it worth it.
@@jeffreysmith4196 In the 60's and 70's I hiked the trail to the top of Half Dome a total of six times. The very first time, did the entire hike in one day with my younger brother, but decided that it was just too much for one day, so started spending the night in the valley above Nevada Fall. Our wives got tired of being left behind, so did join us for one hike....but then decided it was too much. One time, with a new pair of good shoes, I walked away from the face of Half Dome towards where it begins to slope, but, in reality, didn't go too far. I had previously chatted with a ranger who told me of one person who had a new pair of "special shoes'', given them the ultimate test, went too far, and they recovered his body the next day. I've always wondered what went through his mind as he slid and tumbled? Another time, the cables had not been elevated to waist high, but were laying on the rock. We climbed it anyway, picking the cables up as we progressed. Returning back down was a little trickier, just had to be careful. You know of the rock which sticks out from the top and is known as the ''Diving Board?" I have an 8 X10 photo of myself sitting on that rock with my legs dangling out over the edge with 5000' of air below me, hanging on my living room wall. Once, before highway 120 opened, my brother and I hiked up Tenaya Canyon and on to Tenaya Lake. We were the only ones in the campground, patches of snow were on the ground and for two full days, never saw another soul. The next day we hiked towards Half Dome, spent the night alongside the trail and the third day, climbed Half Dome and then hiked on down back to the valley and our car. . Now, I read David Paulides "Missing 411" with the largest cluster of missing people (people who walk in, don't walk out and are never seen again) is in Yosemite and kinda gives me the creeps. WHAT happens to all of these people? (Harvesting flir fields on a distant planet of an odd looking sun?)
Yosemite has a piece of my soul. My first visit was at age five, in 1955. I've been there fifteen times since, but I never made this hike. Thank you for showing it.
My sister and I spent 2 weeks there in August 2002! Most Breathtaking place on earth, and most memorable trip. Reached everything but Halfdome. Yes, a part our soul will reside there forever as well!!
I wish everyone could have the opportunity to hike to the top of Yosemite falls, millions of us fortunate enough to be native Californians have hiked up there since we were young kids, never really appreciateing what we were doing or seeing until we became adults.
@Dankenstein California has many facets....from desert to the snowcapped Sierras, from lush orange groves to lettuce fields, from ocean beaches to Death Valley, and, from cute little deer to Bigfoot.
A great hike up but I chickened out at the tree you showed there at the end. Never made it to the Promised Land (the railing & overlook). Hope I get another chance.
Thank you! I had only gotten half way up. I have an excruciating fear of heights, so this was definitely not something I would have completed--Search and Rescue would have had to pluck me off the side! Outstanding vistas. Again, thank you thank you!
Beautifully captured. I have seen this numerous times and I like to share it with friends when we talk about a trip to Yosemite. (2:08) Yosemite Creek is much fiercer than most rivers in state parks throughout the U.S. So much water moving at a clip!
Glad to share. Awesome place to be. I took this with a Panasonic Lumix ZS3. Its a great hiker's camera as it is quite small but takes good, high-quality photo and video.
That is what I remember when I hiked there in 1972, # hours to hike up and 2 hours to hike down, some where along the trail I could see my red ford galaxie in the parking lot way down below. no pictures left I was 18 then.
Not sure which is more spectacular ... the falls or a late 60's/early 70's cherry red Ford Galaxy. Love this hike - including the stretch from here to the top - on the opposite side of the creek; a great valley overlook.
Love this stuff. Yosemite is on our list this year and it's videos like yours that help us determine what to do and where to go in the park. Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing.
I just down to the past 3 weeks. Was amazing. Hope you’ve had the chance to do so. From Santa Monica to Monterey was a beautiful drive through the big sur. then over to Yosemite. Hope you get to go !!
I realllly want to do this hike even though I’m terrified of heights lol. I hiked to half dome last year and had a panic attack right on subdome 😅 I wonder if it’ll happen again😣
Unorthodox Behaviour -in a wheelchair!? Are you serious? My hats off to you Sir or Madam and congratulations. I couldn't even finish watching video so there's no way I would even hike it!!
Thanks for posting...I used to think I wanted to try this hike along with Angels Landing in Utah....but after getting weak in the knees from just watching videos of both on TH-cam, I took that as a sign NOT TO!!
About 20 years ago my hiker husband and I hiked this trail. We got as far as the big rock slide on the way up and a bit beyond that and we compete;y lost the trail. We weren't novices and even with our topos we couldn't figure out where the trail was and eventually we got pinned into a small space and decided to be more safe than sorry. It's nice to see where the trail actually ends. Anybody have any ideas about where we might have gone wrong?
the last part of the hike to Yosemite falls sucked,a steep climb up rocks then you get to those stairs it's scary.i am afraid of heights but glad I took the hike up there to look over the falls.well worth it.
Nice comparison to Angel's landing. I've done both before, and hadn't considered how very similar they actually are. But I agree with you, Angel's landing overall has more.
+Mark Witte oh that's why it's pouring heavy.I just cant imagine that waterfalls active all the time.I was there in the 90's but at the very botton parte.Nice, thanks
From Wikipedia: The Yosemite Creek watershed, which feeds the creek and Yosemite Falls, contains 43 square miles (110 km2). It is largely a granite basin that was scraped clean of soil by glaciers. Because of the shallow soil base, the Yosemite Creek watershed has little capacity to hold water, so it quickly drains as the snow melts.
It seemed like about 33 miles, but, in reality, about a mile and a half, with a 3000+ elevation gain. It's the elevation that works against one and simply have to often stop to regain your breath.
It's not as bad as it looks - that railing is substantial, it won't move if you hang on. At worst you'd fall ten feet onto the wide ledge of the viewpoint. You'd probably get banged up, but most cases would still be able to hike down, although you'd be hurting and it wouldn't be much fun. The part of the trail above is actually scarier because the steps are so big, irregular, and hard to negotiate.
Pretty heavy water volume. I swam in the stream somewhere upstream from that view but far below the bridge, and the water flow was much less. There where calm pools maybe 100-200 feet above the fall. Great cool soak after a long hike and an amazing pool-side view.
Hi there!! New friend here and loved your video! Great content on this channel. Love it. Wish you the very best. Would love to stay connected. Much Love from us. God bless you❤️❤️❤️
Two in our family are afraid of heights, but had no problem getting to this overlook or any other part of the trail. It looks worse than it is in photos/on video. There a big fall possible, but the railings are exceptionally sturdy and the part that seems narrow with the rail on the inside of the trail - you wouldn't do more than fall to the trail below should you slip or spazz out.

@@ChrisS-mj6ux I'm 81 now, but this trail looks pretty much the same as it did when I first climbed it when I was about 25.
That's nothing you should see the top of Half Dome best hike in Yosemite maybe the whole country.

On the way down those first few steps really caught me off guard! I was hanging onto the railing with two hands for dear life.
Thanks for this video. Just got back from Yosemite. Hope to make that hike to upper Yosemite Falls some day.
My family and will be traveling to Yosemite in a couple of months for the first time! I’m really stoked to see these breathtaking views in person!
It took my buddy and I about 3 hours to hike up to this overlook from the valley floor at a pretty decent pace.

this place is amazing for anyone who hasn't visited there yet i go there almost every year with my family very beautiful
Incredible. I was there when I was a kid around 1989. There was smoke from wildfires and most of the falls didnt have much water. I'll go back one day
In the late summer, Yosemite Falls sometimes dries up with no water flow at all. Late springtime is the best, when the snow is fast melting.
Beautiful video but very dangerous to make I’m glad you got through that all right.
Beautiful! Hope to make it up there one day! Thanks for sharing!
Wow what a wonderful place to be. Amazing nature is.
Very nice place to visit
I did this path in a wheelchair back in 1979 in 10 minutes. Still got the medal.
Unorthodox Behaviour : I did it blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back, I too still have the medal. 😜

Breathtaking..
so scary! gave me the eeebie jeebies looking at those narrow stairs with cliff drop! yikes!
Amazing view of the falls from way up there
Bring a lot of water for the trip up and do not forget you have to walk back down as well.
How is this safe?
It's not.

I dont think I do that very high scariest 😬😬coming down is frightening 😬😬😬😬 no wonder many people disappears
Where is all that water comes from?is it a spring/lake on top?.What a beautiful place.
The water is from Yosemite Creek. This was a heavy snowmelt version of the creek

These steps are ridiculously dangerous! The Park should install an outside railing. What are those in charge thinking!
That would take away the fun.
Man, I wouldve turned around when i saw that narrow staircase with one "hand-rail"!!!

I went on that overlook during a crazy overcast to the point you could only see a couple feet in front of you. Shit was too sketchy.
too bad you didn't show more of the view like more of the mountains and the vally that makes it Yosemite park, right?
thank you !

Most people fall over those falls because of vertigo caused by hiking up and then filming the cliff over the railing
