    I live in Portland, Oregon and have been to Austin many times! Austin needs a light rail that covers most of the city.

      Correction, MOST US cities need a light rail. Public transportation is absolutely horrible.

    This is a much better idea than the “expand i35” initiatives. Reconnecting downtown and having communities be human focused rather than car focused should be a priority!

      Honestly, if 130 weren't a tollway and connected back to 35 south of the city it would have driven a lot of the through traffic away from the city center. But instead, they made it a tollway, stuck huge tolls on it, and for the most part, it's not very busy compared to what it should be.

    This will NOT help the traffic on I-35. Adding lanes does not reduce traffic, it's been shown again and again by both research and real world projects.

    • @74nova36
      @74nova36 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It literally won’t help anything. Can’t wait to deal with the traffic generated by the construction alone

    • @jwgmail

      @David Moore perfect example. I used to live in Bellaire and it took 45 to drive to my friend's house in Katy, and that was in 1996. Houston is so incredibly huge.

    So rather than investing in building subway system or light rail metro or even making the city more walkable, their solution to traffic was to expand the highway?

    • @horatiohornblower3757
      @horatiohornblower3757 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Jerseyguy8527
      @Jerseyguy8527 ปีที่แล้ว

      And do what with a road that brings goods from Mexico into the Midwest?? The only real option would be diverting it on current TX 45 and TX 130 and they have never willing to do that reduce traffic before.

    • @horatiohornblower3757
      @horatiohornblower3757 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jerseyguy8527 Austin absolutely should have a loop utilizing 290/71/130/45/620. But that would be insanely expensive, and the upper middle class communities around 620/71 those roads would outright refuse so it will never happen.

    • @jasonthompson8157
      @jasonthompson8157 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@horatiohornblower3757 I'm not talking about a full loop around Austin just a partial loop on the existing toll roads of TX 45 (SE) and TX 130. While ultimately a full loop would be great s
      as you said it's not practical. They would have to buy out the toll company and remove the tolls though, the Biden Administration says it has a huge infrastructure plan, perhaps Texas should try to get the Feds to pay most of it but that would require it to be made an interstate perhaps Interstate 635 or something. Or even turning I-35 in Austin to I-635 and making the loop I-35 to encourage thru traffic to stay on 35
