I’m not a road doctor or nothing, but what if we build up instead of building to the sides. Like the upper and lower decks on I-10 by downtown. One level for the commuters who are going to exit at some point and another for those passing through who need no exit. Katy freeway had more lanes added and guess what, MORE congestion. It sucks driving on that road. We still have a chance to avoid that.

Yes, they done that already in some places in San Antonio, such as at the airport and two or three other places. This is why I don’t live in San Antonio anymore. Plus I know several people are scared of those heights those spaghetti loops, and go actively out of their way to avoid them.

I wish I could travel back in time and visit US cities before they were bulldozed to make way for parking lots and highways.

A light rail would be a good thing. Might take 10 to 20 years to build out but SA needs to stop waiting.

I agree with you. I used to live in Houston, and while their light rail system is not very big, it does have an impact.

They've tried like 5 different times to build light rail, but the citizens so no and to build more highways. Now everyone is mad about the construction and widening of the highways. They can't not afford to do nothing.

@@forwardthinkingtruckerNIMBYs are annoying, but alot of people be convinced of taking light rail instead when it’s properly explained to them. Unfortunately, the American public really doesn’t know much about public transit, and driving is still seen as the default gold standard.

After completing a large section of route 281 congestion has gotten better, also keep mind, many people are coming to Texas and San Antonio is one of the main city taking in new comers.

Actually, the problems can't be reduced to one sentence, one paragraph, or one page. Much of the problems actually stem from laws that govern highway expansion and providing adequate funding for expansion. Those problems can't be completely solved in city halls; much of the trouble rests withing our legislative problems in Texas. Our legislature only convenes once every two years, which complicates matters even further.

14:55 Buses work great when they are not grid-locked like the rest of the city. What we need are alternative modes of public transportation that get wheels OFF of our congested roads.

LA and some parts of NYC do buses right! Dedicated lanes and i know in LA they have only a bus lane with elevated stops on the highway to get people to local stops on the bottom. One example that ive personally used is the silver line in LA. I believe its express from Long Beach to DTLA.

    • @dariusbrock2351

@@mattdajediIsn't that the same as brt(bus rapid transit). I think the bus lanes aren't stuck with the rest of the traffic.

When are states/local governments going to learn that HOVs are NOT the answer to traffic?! I came from CA, no one carpools there. Not to mention that CA built all kinds of HOV roads with tax payer money, then sold them to private parties who turned them in to toll roads; so they got paid twice on the road and it did NOTHING to cure traffic. And thinning roads for bike lanes?? Who commutes 25 miles to work each way on a bicycle?? Leave the roads as is and bicycles can obey bike/traffic laws as they have for all time.

The question is why it’s taken so damn long. Why is the airport still set in a 1960 layout? It’s way too small.

Dear Via or soon to be via rail
Takes 5 rail lines to get through the city line 1 randolph afb to texas a&m hitting major transit stations. Line 2 med line starts at six flags/lacantra to the MEDICAL center to brooks afb connection to at transit stations. Line 3 stone oaks to south park mall connects the transit stations. Line 4 from alamo ranch to froster road i10 connecting the far west and east hitting ft sam along the way. Finally line 5 coming from lakeside to port of San Antonio hitting major transit stations. Simple SO WHY ARE WE PAYING YALL WHEN I CAME UP WITH THIS WITHOUT YEARS OF COLLEGE 😳😳 can we say time for a career change.!

The only way to solve congestion is education on roadway educate. You have people driving fast in the slow lane, slow in the fast lane, trucks in the fast lane, speeders weaving in and out of traffic, grandma that does not belong on the highway and you can go on and on. If everyone drove and the same speed, changed lanes miles before your exit and space themselves out. Then we would not need as much lanes. But that is a perfect world.
Also the excuses for progress are exactly that, excuses. Between complaining about air quality, pretending highways divide people and the never ending BS about the aquifer. You cannot stop progress. This is why it takes 30 years to build things that should take 5. Whiners and complainers that have no problem using the highway when its done of course.

    • @beanpasteposts
      @beanpasteposts ปีที่แล้ว +1

You will always get traffic if you build for more traffic. The only real solution is getting more people off the road in the first place. Grandma being on the highway might be better served by decent public transit instead. She’s only driving because there aren’t any other viable options.
