THANK YOU!!!! I used to use relaxers since I was 7 years old but switched to Japanese straightening in 2016. My hair is now super long but over never touched up at home. Usually drive to the salon but we moved and the closest one is a couple hours away. I’m almost 40 so I think I can do it with an extra set of hands lol. Thank you SO MUCH for showing this done at home. My wallet can’t salon right now.
Thank you for your comment! It’s always really encouraging to me to hear from those of you who have hip to JHS for a while and getting amazing results 🩷 I can’t wait to be slinging back some extra inches. I’m also happy that I’m able to help you out with my videos. It’s always good to save money and time! ☺️
You should check if they sell a creme protectant that you can put on the already processed hair to protect it from getting the step 1 on it! The way you were checking it actually spreads the chemical to the hair that has already been treated. With a creme protectant on, this will no longer be a concern! I did Liscio on my hair for years but had to search for the protectant creme because it was not included as part of the system when you order it! The brand you use may have a protectant creme as well but you have to search for it (I believe this is because it is only usually available to licensed cosmetologists). Hope this helps!
This helps a lot! I was able to find it online for Shiseido but the order kept getting canceled. I’ll try to do a search again to see if more reliable sites are selling it 🩷
Thank you so much Sarah! 💖 With how long my hair was when I did it for the first time (shoulder length), plus the times I’ve reapplied it, I say I got 4-6 uses out of my first set. That’s when I touched up around every 15 or more weeks. Now that I touch up around 12 weeks and I’m more used to applying it, I use a little less product. So I say each one lasts at least half a year (depending on if you start on virgin hair or not), but I made my 1st one last a year, and I just finished my second one recently.
💯 This is the only JHS channel on YT that I will take any advice from because of the consistency of uploading videos on her JSH journey. Be warned there’s a fake JSH video done on 4C hair and saying that her hair fell out. This is just to get views and put black people off from using such products. The other video’s shows touch ups followed by another big chop video. This is misinformation and I’ve also seen a black licensed JHS hairdresser that has YT Chanel. The results are good but this hairdresser is just so damn rude to her clients and saying that if her client goes to another hairdresser and gets JHS done she will take that as cheating on her and will not see them again.🙄 I had to do a big chop due to having my her chemically straightened by a professional. Not relaxer or JHS. So once I have enough length I will just do a DIY JHS using the Sheseido brand. In the meantime I am just making sure that my natural hair stays healthy before hand.
@@AmazingMiracles thank you so much 🤗 You’re right that we have to be careful about the information we receive and sadly even where we go to get our hair done. I’m so sorry that stylist betrayed your trust, that was not okay at all. We should be trying to uplift each other but instead some people gatekeep information and sabotage other people’s progress. I’m glad you’re starting an empowered hair journey, and I’ve been able to help you ❤️❤️❤️
You made me literally try JHS too! I’m so glad to have found your channel! I’m never going back to relaxing my hair on god 🥹💖✨ Do you happen to have a video on your night time hair routine? I’m not sure how to tie up my hair at night in a way that fully avoids breakage
Omg I’m so glad to hear that~! It’s great that you were able to try JHS and it’s helped your hair journey go how you prefer 🩷🩷 I love that you were able to find so much help in my content 🥰🎶 Thank you for watching my content and leaving such lovely comments!! 🤗💖
Only use strong if the hair is coarse and healthy. Having a high porosity means your hairs pores are more open so it doesnt make sense to use strong. Mild is typically used for controlling the formula concentration like to dilute the strong or normal. It can also be used on color treated hair (weak). Honestly everyone should just use normal if at home. Im licensed❤❤❤
My hair is low porosity which is why I use EX1/a stronger formula as I mentioned in the video. Please rewatch the video between 0:55 and 01:55. I don’t want people that haven’t seen the video to come to the comments and think I mistakenly said anything like that. I said people with previously chemically treated (bleached, etc) or higher porosity hair should use mild. Also this is an ammonium thioglycolate perm formulated in Japan which obviously wasn’t made for low porosity Black women’s hair, so in my personal experience using both their regular formula and this formula, I mentioned I prefer this one.
That makes sense ❤ I want to thank you again for commenting as a professional so that people who read through the comments can also get better advice. I can only speak from my experience and I understand it’s not always relatable
Thank you so much for watching! ✨ When I 1st touch up my hair I smooth it all back with a hair brush and just tie a scarf around. After the 1st 3 days I can wrap my hair around my head and then tie a scarf. You can’t get any creases or bends the first few days. I think I’ll post a short video demonstrating so it’s easier to see what I mean
Looking beautiful, long and healthy. I remember watching your first DIY JHS journey video. I am sure you will achieve your waistline goal. Q: Once you had a retouch at a salon. Was the same brand of JHS used and if not did you notice any difference? Thanks in advance.❤️
Thank you so much as always for watching 💖!! I am also hopeful to achieve my goal before the year ends! When I retouched at the salon I believe he used Milbon’s Liscio product (another popular JHS system that the TH-camr Crystal Lynn also mentioned). He used it in the same strength I was using at that time for Shiseido, regular, so the results were similar. He didn’t get as close to my root because he normally processed wavy hair, but other than that my hair looked and felt great, so I have no complaints. Plus I got a head massage and haircut included for half what most people have been paying to get just the JHS done ($200 total).
@@itstawanza Thanks for the reply and info. Glad you had some pampering at the salon. Also glad that the Hairdresser was honest and responsible by avoiding your roots. I read on the instructions for JHS and it mentions to leave about 1cm+ roots. In another YT a black woman with 4C was having a touch up in Japan and she was telling the Hairdresser to do the roots but he told her that her hair would break off if he did. Moreover, her hair always came out texlaxed regardless if it was a DIY or done in a salon. I guess for you, you already know your own hair with JHS and can go in close to the roots. I mean it must be a bit frustrating if you can’t have a touch up with all bone straight hair when done.
@@AmazingMiracles Yes, it was such a great and comfortable experience. I miss my stylist so much, because he was also responsible for my trims before he moved away. It is a tricky system to use at 1st so I’m also glad he prioritized safety. I wonder why her results always came out more texlaxed though? It might have to do with strength and processing time, but everyone’s hair is unique after all
Oh sorry if there’s a misunderstanding, but I don’t live in Japan I live in Hawai’i. Thank you for subscribing though! I just straightened my hair because I didn’t want to relax it but I wanted to wear it straight

Thanks so much for this vid! With how much retouches cost in salons I wanted to know if there was an alternative. would you say that there is a huge learning curb with doing it alone?
You’re so welcome~! 🩷 I honestly didn’t feel like there was a struggle, but it’s because I have done regular relaxers at home too. If you’re nervous about getting the timing perfect, I suggest trying the whole process with conditioner to build confidence. If you try it every week until your touch up you’ll feel really comfortable doing the real thing. 2 years later and I can say it’s honestly the easiest process ever! Feel free to keep me updated if you DIY your touch up, cause I’m all about saving money and self empowerment 🤗🩷🩷
Oh that’s because this is the required process for the Japanese straight perm. It’s not the same as a relaxer because it is ammonium thioglycolate based, which means you have to shape your hair how you want it to dry and then you can’t wet it again for 48-36 hours. So it’s like a curly perm or Jherri curl in straight form. If you did a curly perm/ permanent wave you would do the same process but with hair rollers, while here you’re using the flat iron to get it to be permanently straight. I hope this answers your question. If you have anymore feel free to ask me or I can refer you to some helpful links ✨
Thank you for being patient with my responses! 🩷 I changed from strong to normal to use up all the normal ones I bought. I was buying them in bulk, but I didn't want them to expire. Because I've been doing it for 2 years now, I know how to apply the normal without underproccessing my hair. I just filmed an updated video for the end of the year where it might cover some parts a little better! Basically to blow dry my hair during the JHS, I usually use a blow dry brush while I dry my hair the first time, and the second time don't use any attachments at all

When I did the strong it didn't overprocess, but I had to work a lot faster. Like from beginning to end it was about 15 minutes, but when I use normal I can work slower and finish around 25/30 minutes with no problems. If you plan to use it on your own hair, I wouldn't use strong on roots and normal on ends because the hair closer to your roots will process faster due to the heat from your scalp. Actually when you do it on virgin hair like yours, you may want to leave an inch all around your roots to process in the last 5 minutes because it will process faster than your ends. If you want to use strong, I recommend it after some practice because it's really intense. I haven't used OlaPlex, but I have used a similar rebonding treatment made by Fanola. I think any sort of treatment made for damaged hair is good in moderation, but it's also important to use products heavy on moisture because your cuticle won't be as damaged with JHS as it would with a relaxer.
