Nigeria, We Hail Thee was adopted as the national anthem of Nigeria when it became independent in 1960. On October 1, 1978, the anthem was replaced by ''Arise, O Compatriots'', and was kept in use until 29 May 2024, when it was once again replaced by ''Nigeria, We Hail Thee''.
