  • Few journeys today are as exciting as the destination. The rare exception is the romantic and exciting trip to Pitcairn Island. In this expedition we explore the exotic island of Tahiti, go into the center of Tahiti where few venture. We retrace the voyage of Captain Bligh and the HMS Bounty famous for the greatest maritime story of all time, the Mutiny on the Bounty. We will also see the most incredible photographs of the island of Moorea that lies only 10 miles from Tahiti.
Part 2 of our expedition is through the Tuamotus showcasing numerous atolls and some of the most beautiful tropical coral reefs in the world.
Part 3 is exploring the island of Mangareva in the Gambier Islands visiting the Tahitian pearl farms and seeing the most incredible Tahitian pearls in the world. And a little behind the scenes with Julian McDonnell (Joolz Guide) of Take me to Pitcairn fame.
We will witness a gorgeous sunset at sea and the rarely see green flash.
Part 4 is the exciting ocean voyage from the Gambier Islands to Pitcairn Island via Oeno Atoll. We will travel on the Claymore 2, the 67-foot racing yacht the Xplore and the yacht Southern Cross Julian McDonnell and I sailed on while Julian filmed Take me to Pitcairn. Our story will end arriving at Pitcairn Island. For those that make it to the end will see vintage Pitcairn Island photos dating back to the year 1890.
If you would like to see the island of Pitcairn please watch Exploring Pitcairn Island by drone or a few other Pitcairn Island videos I have posted.

great! I hope you found Pitcairn reed warbler. A bird unique to the island and one very few ornithologist have had a chance to see. What makes little islands unique is not only its culture that mostly originated some 1000s of years ago, but the fauna and flora that evolved over millions of years.

@@dianamincher6479 I can assure you there is very little profit made by the ship taking you to Pitcairn. The captain and crew make just a living like everyone else. This is one of the least costly vacations one can take. $10,000 divided by the 22 days it takes for me to leave home and return is $455 a day that includes 4 plane rides, 2 boat trips, hotels, food and all the necessities and you are going to one of the most secluded places on the planet. Yes, you can do Hawaii on a little over $300 a day but I assure you the experience is not the same and they I am sure they make more profit on your dollar spent.

Spent two months also in Siem Reap, Cambodia and a few days visiting temples in amazing Bangkok. I'll be coming back to that part of the world as soon as I have my virus vaccination shots. Wish to also see some of India and Sri Lanka. Still strong enough to carry my small carry on backpack. My friends in Siem Reap are waiting for me to come back. Had to have quadruple bypass surgery. But now healthy and a green light from my cardiaologist to travel wherever I like. My health insurance will now cover me out of country again also. The surgery was a great success. Wish to finish out my life over there... have a Buddhist funeral and cremation. I became Theravada Buddhist at a temple.

I've often wondered if MGM's Bounty II went to Pitcairn Island. According to the 1962 movies promotional material, HMS Bounty II DID go to both Tahiti AND Pitcairn!! I do remember a story of MGM's publicity dept planning to set fire to the Bounty II at Pitcairn Island in Bounty Bay, but Marlon Brando said he'd walk off the set if they did, so they didn't. A scene at (supposedly) Pitcairn in the movie looks to me like Bounty Bay. A shame that she ended up at the bottom of the Atlantic in a fools maneuver to sail around a hurricane.

Hi Tony Really loved your video and the one of the drone too. I was wondering where do the islanders get their incomes from? They seem to be able to afford to travel which isn't cheap. Groceries can't be cheap there either yet they all seem to live in relative comfort. Have they got a hoard of pirate gold that we don't know about.?

    • @tonyprobst4266
      @tonyprobst4266  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

No gold on Pitcairn, at least it has not been found yet. They have been self sufficient for over 100 years growing all their own fruits and vegetables, raising chickens etc and of course all the seafood you would want. When ships started to visit on a regular basis they would sell things they made on the island in return for money and food. They would save the money and buy things mainly from New Zealand like generators, then refrigerators, stoves, tools and so on. They do get deals on trips to New Zealand as well as the occasional free trip. Some go off on paid speaking engagements around the word. Thank you for watching.

The drone was a folding DJI Mavic Pro. I credit the nice color and lack of glare from the sea to a polarizing filter I used. Thank you for watching.

    Nice movie Tony - Thanks!
However, here's a small astronomical comment - at 32:11 you show a shot of the seemingly full moon, and you refer to its nearby in the night sky light source as being Venus. Well, I'm confident that it could not be Venus because when one looks in the direction of the full/fullish sunlit face of the moon one must be looking more or less in the opposite direction to that of the Sun, ie one is looking to a section of the sky that is further away from the Sun than is the Earth.
Well, planet Venus is far closer to the Sun than planet Earth, thus that other light source can not be Venus, so it's EITHER some bright star OR just possibly a planet that is further from the sun than we are here on earth, eg Mars or Jupiter. You could establish which of those possibilities it actually was by looking up the date and approximate time of that photo and then setting a skyview app to that date, time and approximate location to identify that light source.
    Thanks again, Ariel (Oxford, UK)

How on earth do the locals survive there? What's the basis of their economy? I can imagine that many things must be made locally, but there are clearly many imported goods, building materials, etc. How does this work?

First they were self sufficient for over a hundred years so they have everything they need to survive on their own. Today they sell curios and things they make to passing ships and of course there is the small amount of tourism. They use that money to purchase things from new Zealand or passing ships. Thanks for watching.

If I could visit anywhere in the World? Ha! I live here: in the foothills of the Massanutten Mountains, between the two Forks of the Shenandoah River, in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia! But, the number of people and politics have made it impossible to live here. Even between a National Forest and National Park, in the black bear capital of Virginia, it's no longer a dream. Alas.
