It's honestly horrible how far people will go to deny that sexual assault/abuse happens. I know that both men *and* women are sexually assaulted or abused, I'm never going to deny that. Our society is honestly becoming scary, though. When I was 8 years old, my (ex) best friend assaulted me, for a long time I tried to deny it and push it down and I've only recently realised what happened. One of the things that scared me most about what happened was that I know he must have been influenced by someone, somehow. He always tried to follow in the footsteps of his parents and I've always been worried that they did something to cause him to behave like that. Hearing people say that women aren't oppressed honestly hurts me, because I've experienced it first hand. I even hear girls from my school tell jokes about rape and abuse, part of me is happy they don't know what it's like, but people need to know about this stuff more. We need to be aware that it can happen to anyone, no matter the gender, race or sexuality.

Kari no clothes Thanks. Yes really sad. I lost them as friends because I can no longer trust people who 'know' they are better than others just by believing in something that has no scientific evidence or logic. Believing is a faith you have within yourself - a very powerful thing to have because it gives people more hope and strength to help them through life. But if it comes with prejudice and being brainwashed to think I'm superior than non-believers, and treating them like crap, then I don't want it! How is this any different from being racist or homophobic? I can see the connection of this with the current POTUS. He's an authoritarian - Loves dictators like Putin, Kim Jong Un and Xi Jinping. He has thin skin, acts like a medieval king - can't be criticised and lashes out at anyone who makes fun of him. His misogyny, disrespect towards women - he'll take away all women's rights if he could. It is possible that America may turn into Handmaid's Tale if he remains in office :)

There are things to like about him, and things to hate as well. Yet they don't see any fault with anything he does. The would have come after Obama with torches and pitchforks if he was accused of even half the things Trump was. I used to be an evangelical born again christian. No more. Did you know that religious conservatives worldwide hold remarkably similar views - regardless of what organized religion they belong to? Islamic conservatives and Christian conservatives and Jewish conservatives agree on many things even as they supposedly oppose each other.
Organized religion causes ALL horrors on this earth. War, sexism, racism, etc. they all lead back to religion and blindly following the crowd/religion of your choice.
Which religion caused World War 2 and World War 1? And the Korean War? And the Vietnam War? And Napoleonic Wars? The Russian Revolution? Do you think Mongols conquered everything from Korea to to Syria because of religion? Wars are fought for money and power, and this includes the Crusades too.
SnepKaunt Conquest and power is always the goal, but religion has very often been the tool by which the goal is accomplished. Wars are always fought between an "us" and a "them" and religion is a tool that is used to mark the differences between people. It would be one thing if I personally and individually came up with how I should believe in the supernatural, but everyone in an organized religion must necessarily believe in the same way. This fact makes all organized religions inherently political . Organizing groups of people around a central supernatural thought is both an absurd and an inherently political act. All organized religions are political organizations.
Religion divides people of different religions but brings people of the same religion closer. In that (and in being used to rile peoples to go to war) it's just like nationalism and political ideologies. But blaming religion on "ALL horrors on this earth" is just ignorant. Every human society that we know of has had some kind of religion and those societies where religion has been suppressed (North Korea, Cambodia, Soviet Union, China) turned out really shitty, so religion must have a net positive effect on society, otherwise it wouldn't have survived from the dawn of civilization.
Errrrr... For some reason I am not laughing. This could actually happen in the future. It's not such a funny and crazy scenario....but I am glad they made this....
This youtuber, called Black Pigeon Speaks, made a video about a year ago about how this SHOULD be how things are - that countries work best when women have no rights and are completely controlled by men, and he got a lot of dislikes, but still WAY more likes than dislikes. It was a video with over 1million views too. Guess how many anti-feminists men (ya know, supposed egalitarians) responded to rebut his video? Guess! The answer will... probably not shock you.
You realize this already happened right? Don't you know anything about the history of western countries and how women used to be treated. At one point in history women could not even own land on their own.
WOW It's funny how accurate it is with some ignorant people, and you did this sketch before the Metoo movement, giving it much more sense today, well done!
Cory F It's funny how radical Christianity and radical Islam aren't that different. Maybe the problem isn't the religion but the RADICAL CRAZIES who take it to extremes?
shpei88 the two do not equate at all. And to relate this particular story with Islam is just relating to its roots. The handmaids tale was inspired by real events such as the Iranian revolution, a uniquely Islamic oppression of women. Muslim girls undergo genital mutilation, in Islamic states. In dubai, and other predominately Islamic countries a woman's testimony is worth half as much as a man. A woman can serve jail time or be killed for being raped, under islam. I would say that having multiple countries where this is law and not fringe radicals does not begin to equate with Christian extremists.
"Abortion is not a gender issue, its an ethical issue." We all have different opinion about ethics, we can keep them to ourselves or spread your opinion (freedom of speech), but don't force others to believe in what you believe in. The idea of Pro Choice is the freedom for someone to choose where they stand on that scale. Someone could be Pro-choice but not Pro abortion, because they chose not to do the surgery. But absolutely denying someone the right of what they can do with their bodies just seems irrational because people should just mind their own business.
Sawautha but the conservative view on abortion is in direct opposition to their republican doctrine. They're supposed to be the party of less government. They don't want the government telling ppl what to do. Want the government to have very limited control...yet it seems only when that suits them. When it comes to women's bodies, they want more government controlling ppl. Pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. As we've seen many times over from pro-lifers, they believe in protecting the fetus, but not the child. Taking away CHIP now, defunding planned parenthood(where pregnant women and new moms also go for medical and other help), they fight free and affordable contraceptives and fight workplace insurances covering reproductive healthcare, they're fine electing and defending pedophiles. It all makes no sense. Want less abortions? Stop making it harder for women to afford birth control! Force a low income mother to have her baby, don't then take away her only source to feed that baby! Don't take away that child's healthcare.
+james bonoff fradestin It is also unborn. It is part of you until you give birth. During the time in which an abortion is performed, the baby is far from fully developed. It is not an organism separate from its mother. Abortion prevents babies being born into families that cannot/will not support them or care for them in a way that prevents them from growing into a mentally and physically healthy child. Besides, it's the mother's choice if she wants to keep the child. The male is no more than a sperm donor if they do not stick around. It's the woman who goes through the pain of childbirth, who has to endure the risk of complications and/or death.
Hannah Avila: It's an important enough issue to be said EVERYWHERE. A woman who cannot do what she decides to do with her own body is essentially a slave. If anti-choice people (And they are NOT pro-life because as soon as a child is born they abandon any concept of care for it, nor do they care for the life of the woman) want to stop abortion THEN GET TOGETHER AND FUND RESEARCH INTO WAYS TO REMOVE A FETUS WITHOUT HARM TO THE IMPREGNATED WOMAN AND GROW IT OUTSIDE THE WOMB. AND THEN FUND DOING THAT FOR EVERY WOMAN WHO DESIRES IT! Otherwise, they are just attempting to enslave other people to THEIR personal desires. It's not really even a matter of religious freedom - there is no passage in ANY major religious tome that forbids the removal of a fetus early in development. Ever since men discovered that they could rape their way into progeny, they've worked to brainwash women into submitting to pregnancy despite the fact that CHILDBIRTH CAN BE FATAL TO THE WOMAN. Yes, women STILL die from childbirth, even in the USA, and even in hospitals! So the more awareness of the issue, the better. Women need to overcome the brainwashing and realize that the person carrying the tissue has a right to say what happens to the tissue. And we have a right to refuse to allow impregnation in the first place, with birth control AND requiring condoms or vasectomies, as applies to the situation. And vasectomies can be easily reversed! In fact, any man who is anti-choice and sexually active other than in marriage SHOULD HAVE A VASECTOMY, so that he doesn't impregnate a partner without her consent. If at some point he has a consenting wife, then he can have the procedure reversed in an afternoon. And he will not have ruined women's lives along the way!
Make rape, child marriage, incest, Domestic Violence & pedofilia Federal crimes - like 'actually' protect women & children - then we can talk about what all these rich conservative white dudes think they 'know' is best. Of course Christian Republican politicians only what safe abortions for their mistresses & underage victims.
dave4248 take a look at state legislation designed to impede access to services, the ability to provide services, closing of facilities & restrictions designed to discourage patients. Roe v Wade wasn't the end of the battle, it rages on even still. Also (in the cases of child marriage to mask the crimes of sexual assault against children) there are basically scared girls being held hostage jointly by parents & their rapists. Middle aged perverts just looking to get cheap thrills off innocent middle schoolers probably aren't the best ppl to whom one should hand over their pregnant 14yo, eh?

Agreed. This is some of the most open contempt for the law by a US President that I have ever seen even or read about (Jackson ignored the Supreme court as an example of a more overt middle finger to the law, but just because there has been worse is no reason to let it pass today).
Jessy Exum There has been no open contempt for the law. absolutely none. what you are reading is fake news. it attaches itself to your bias and grows wings but has nowhere to go and is not grounded in reality.

Bringing back growing up Pentecostal memories, but this is seriously dark! Terrifying too because it feels like the world is closing in on America with "dear leader" taking over.
Baloney! Nobody's overthrowing the Constitution. There's always another election, city, state, congress, senate and the 2020 Presidential election. Don't Pentecostals have female ministers?
J Law Tell me more about your experience with Pentecostal. I had two friends who became born again Pentecostal and totally changed. Very odd!
Them: The world will end some day. I'm going to heaven and you're going to hell because you're not Christian!
Me: That's what you really believe?
Them: I don't believe. I KNOW!!!
As someone who also grew up Pentecostal I know exactly what you mean
In the book Serena was a female minister evangelist. What worries me is how Trump seems viewed as almost a Messiah among the Christian community. There are things to like about him, and things to hate as well. Yet they don't see any fault with anything he does. The would have come after Obama with torches and pitchforks if he was accused of even half the things Trump was. I used to be an evangelical born again christian. No more. It's the great whore spoken of in the bible.
Great job on the color grading!
Stephen Nielsen like in the book, religion is used as a tool to control the masses so the powerful can ensue.
The writers get the thumbs up of the day, SNL should do Schindler's List next.

Cory F It's funny how radical Christianity and radical Islam aren't that different. Maybe the problem isn't the religion but the RADICAL CRAZIES who take it to extremes?
One word comes to mind after reading your comment: Moron.
shpei88 the two do not equate at all. I would say that having multiple countries where this is law and not fringe radicals does not begin to equate with Christian extremists.
shpei88 How are they similar?
This accurately sums up what it's like being a woman around clueless dude-bros.
+james bonoff fradestin
It is also unborn.
