I’m hitting the Merced river till it closes , but I’m bank fishing, so it’s tough.
I would recommend trying the ‘new’ Rapala Mavrik lure, I’ve caught squaws ,rainbows , cutthroat, striper & bass on the same one- modified with feather rear hook & some red sharpie blood marks around gills.

I feel like we have been getting our runs back because I have not seen a late fall run since I’ve been in high school and I graduate in 2008 these past two years I have seen a late fall run. Also found out how Fish And Game says our numbers are low. They weren’t taking all the information from the fish ladders throughout California’s river systems. Whatever Fry are introduce to the system if the percentage of returning grown fish comes back too low, then they say our population of salmon is too low and close the season, I feel like there should be more done to check the actual numbers of salmon, coming up the ladders to be took into account l. plus the fry. Just a suggestion anybody else have any thoughts?

the fish go deep when the rivers low, what do they do when the rivers high?
