  • Elliot is asked by his therapist about what he thinks is wrong with society but instead of telling her he tells us.
From Mr Robot Season 1 Episode 1 "eps1.0_hellofriend.mov"
Socially inept Elliot Alderson works at cyber security company Allsafe. At night, he hacks social media, personal information, and bank records, including those of his co-workers, therapist, and drug dealer. Elliot stops a DDoS attack against Allsafe's biggest client, E Corp. He identifies a file labeled fsociety00.dat and a text file asking him not to destroy malware he finds hidden on E Corp's server. Mr. Robot, the mysterious leader of the hacker group fsociety, contacts Elliot on the subway. Fsociety invites Elliot to join them in starting a digital revolution; they plan to delete all debt records held by E Corp. He is intrigued and eventually agrees. As his first collaborative act with fsociety, Elliot provides the FBI with an encrypted file falsely implicating Terry Colby, E Corp's own chief technology officer (CTO) as the orchestrator of the attack.
Welcome to the official MR. ROBOT [mr.rob0t] channel where you can catch all the best moments from the series and join Elliot (Rami Malek) on his quest to bring down the big corporations he's paid to protect.

1:43 This seriously resonated with me. I really think that Elliot's speech speaks great truth about the problem with humanity being self domesticated. People are generally too timid and afraid to confront apparent problems or come to terms with the ugly truths of how the world really works. Society engineers conformity so that it's citizens are way too frightened to undertake any action that might not be approved of or be shunned. Society's members would much rather be locked in their own comfort zones and spend the rest of their lives in passive numbness than do anything that might be risky or "strange". It's sad and discouraging that everyone else including me doesn't want to oppose a system with superior resources and manpower and prefer to stay hidden in obscurity.

because u are wrong to think of society as anything real. Society is an emergent phenomenon. You are part of it as well as everyone else. In consideration of recent events what he says at 0:45 "scratching that part of my mind again" is actually quite interesting. He also says this to Ron in the coffeeshop at the start of the episode. Both times he uses this phrasing when hes talking about pedophiles, as we later also find out that Michael Hansen has a thing for young prostitutes. Super cool to see these things from season 1 matching with the recent info about "that part" of his mind, which we just got in season 4.

We then see it taking over for a bit when he put on the FSociety mask in a flashback with Darlene. But it completely took over at the beginning of the series, we as the viewers are a personality the Mastermind created to be able to vent with (and Mastermind is the only one that talks to us except for Mr Robot on S4 because he was the closest one). captivating series. and if you have or want to get a glims of what its like talking or being social with others while being on the spectrum, this will really shine a light on it, a tad overexposed but true none the less.

The more I watch this scene I really believe in season 1&2 he was giving us a message about the reality we live in. And then 3-4 was just for show.
