Eddie Murphy, such a talent. He started doing stand-up in Long Island comedy clubs when he was just 15.
Debuted as an extra in the 1980-81 season of Saturday Night Live after auditioning six times. Hilarious comedy career, does impressions, laugh you cannot forget. Actor, singer. Eddie's got it all. He hasstarred in so many famous movies. Keep having fun on the Eddie journey.
That's Rick James Britt!!
Good play. LOL
I was trying to figure out a way to say it without offending her. You win!
🤣😆 Well played! 👍🏾✌🏾
How does this comment not have thousands of likes?
You MUST know that EV'RYONE was thinking about it! LOL!!!
He’s with Rick James! The ultimate producer. ( Supa Freak and great duets with Teena Marie. )
Eddie was doing standup on Long Island in his early teens.
He became a massive star at 18 when he joined SNL in 1981. He started making films like Trading Places, Coming to America and Beverly Hills Cop when he was only 21!
Thanks earthling.. tell us more!
Phenom. Wish he did more standup. I would trade in every Dave Chappelle special and every Chris Rock special for one more Eddie special.
written and produced by Rick James he is the 1 in blond wig). It was the lead single from Murphy's 1985 debut musical album How Could It Be
Not a wig lmao
The Genius of the LEGENDARY Iconic Mr James Ambrose Johnson aka Rick James ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Murphy stated that the song was made in response to a $100,000 bet made between himself and actor/comedian Richard Pryor, wagering on whether Murphy had singing talent or not. The single was recorded at Rick James's home studio in Buffalo, New York.
I cannot believe you don't know who Rick James is!!! React to Rick James's song "Superfreak" which will tip you off to the riff that MC Hammer sampled for "U Can't Touch This"!!! If you are going to react to Eddie's standup comedy, check out "Delirious" and "Raw" those are his most famous ones.
Now I have to go listen to it. Britt always asks the right questions. I fall right into the rabbit hole. Lol 😆
Rick James (blonde curly wig)- drums, percussion, backing vocals, production
He was considered super freaky ...before P. Diddy came along and upped the freak factor tenfold
This song made it all the way to #2 on the hot 100 in 1985. Eddie Murphy was so close to joining the list of actors/singers who've had a #1 movie and a #1 song
The one you’re wondering about is the legend Rick James! Check out his ‘Superfreak’
The beat from Superfreak is what you can't touch by M.C. Hammer
The 70's and 80's were big decades for TV and movie stars to record music. I remember Eddie, of course, and also John Travolta, Don Johnson, and Bruce Willis vividly.
Lmao! You were close, Britt. Not Kindergarten Cop, Eddie Murphy was Beverly Hills Cop
And Arnold Schwarzenegger played the lead in that.
This is actually R.S. (aka Roll Safe) - Fire In The Booth.
@@babylonsister118 That could be interpreted as you saying Arnold played the lead in Beverly Hills Cop. Certainly would have changed the vibe of that movie completely had that been the case lol.
It's the resemblance. 🤭
@@antoinettelopes Fire In Da Boof.
The fact that Shrek is the 1st thing you think of for Eddie Murphy definitely shows how young you are. You mentioned Boomerang which is a good movie but he has many more like 48 Hours, Trading Places, Coming To America, Beverly Hills Cop 1&2, Harlem Nights, The Golden Child, The Nutty Professor 1&2, and Life. You can also see him do some singing in Dream Girls. He also did two standups in the 80's, the first one was Delirious and the other one was Raw. The other guy that was singing in this video was the legendary Rick James who also has a small role in the movie Life that I mentioned earlier.
Love how you left out Beverly Hills cop 3 😂 agree but
@scottirvine121 lol.....yeah I'm trying to give her something good to watch, if I recommend that, it would destroy my credibility 🤣🤣
@@devonstokes7150 hahaha
She said the first thing she thinks of when it comes to Eddie SINGING, keyword there.
Eddie's stand up is a lot different than his work as an actor and singer. He was hysterical, but for the time he said some outlandish things. If you are interested, his two specials were Delirious (1983) and Raw (1987). If you watch them, watch Delirious first.
Yeah, pretty outlandish for the 80s and that's saying something. I found them hilarious, but could you imagine him trying to put on the same shows today?
Delirious is one of the best ever. Raw was good, but not great.
"I got my ice cream!"
"The f$%k you man!"
Two of the funniest comedy routines, comedy! Please, please watch the full shows. It loses so much out of context; it's legendary and historical pieces of works
"Delirious" is the best - so wrongly funny! "I got some ice cream." ❤🤣
That man in the wig is Rick James who sang Super Freak. Yes that is Eddie singing. So much talent!!!
Rick James!! Super Freak is a great suggestion. Rick James was huge in the 80s. Very much dance music. He had a series of health issues in the 90s and passed in the early 2000s.
Eddie Murphy was introduced as a comedian, a singer, and actor. His SNL character Mister Robinson was great.
“Kill my landlord!”
That's Rick James Britt he also produced the song
Or as Dave Chapelle said "I'm Rick James, bitch!!"
And you is also the songwriter not just producer
I love when younger people discover the music I had as a kid. Blown away that you didn't recognize Rick James, but I also owned this vinyl album so..age. Lol
The guy in the wig is Rick James, big star in the 80s. Super Freak is one of his biggest hits. As with Eddie's stand-up acts, "Delirious" is definitely his best stuff. You can find the whole act on YT, it's almost two hours long.
Eddie was in Beverly Hills Cop I, II, and III… plus the movies 48 Hours and Another 48 Hours, both cop comedy-dramas.
Eddies singing came after he was an established box office hit maker, but before all of his critically acclaimed movies
"Another 48 Hours" with the "I'm having a very bad day" scene! Hysterical.
He started with stand-up, then SNL, then movies and lastly singing. Rick James was in this video. He actually had 2 albums. The lead single on his 2nd album in the early 90s featured Michael Jackson.
Guy in the wig is Rick James. It was an 80's thing Eddie Murphy, Don Johnson and Patrick Swayze did albums that did surprisingly well.
Glad you’re back, Britt. The guy with the blonde hair is Rick James. MC Hammer used a Rick James riff (from Rick’s song, “super freak“) as the hook to his song “U Can’t Touch This.” I didn’t think Eddie’s voice sounded great when this song came out in the mid 80s, but I think this song has held up pretty well.
Thank you earthling.. tell us more !
Girl this used to go crazy in the clubs back in the 80s
Every time I see Rick James I think of Dave Chapelle. His parody of Rick is iconic. You definitely need to react to Rick James singing Superfreak.
Eddie Murphy is the GREATEST at impressions, but also has a real singing voice. He also played Rick James on SNL, so Rick James wrote this specifically for Eddie. Radio Stations were EXTREMELY apprehensive when it was about to drop. BUT, It was 3-Weeks on the Charts in the #2 Spot!! You can tell he’s nervous @ the beginning. But, he lets it fly pretty quick!!
Yes he's a singer he actually sang in Dream girls he had a song with Michael Jackson called i was a king and another song called put your mouth on me which was pretty risque
Boogie in ya butt also. Lol
Holy crap. His stand up is gonna blow your mind
This is actually R.S. (aka Roll Safe) - Fire In The Booth.
This song was huge back in the day! Bruce Willis also had a song in the 80's, "Respect Yourself"
Loved Eddie:Bruce:Don music
@@mellycookDon Johnson??? Heaaartbeeeeaaattt I’m looking for a Heartbeat..
I love that song as a kid. I actually had the vinyl
The guy with the hair is RICK JAMES 😁 Which is why the song is so good. He produced it. Eddie was 24 here. He got famous really young on SNL. He started as a standup comedian, but he did singing impressions. Stevie Wonder, James Brown, etc.
Thanks for reviewing this, I suggested this some time ago. Yes that is Eddie Murphy singing. The guy in the blond hair is the one and only Rick James
Insane!
Eddie started stand up at age 15, then SNL, then acting and then music. I think he has three albums and the guy with the blonde hair is Rick James - musician and producer. Eddie could do anything!
Ohhh Eddies " dont go to cookouts" is a MUST see
"This is my house!"🤣
Hit movie, hit song and hit stand up special all out at the same time.
We missed you! What a way to return! Loved this song! Just goofy fun!
And that is Rick James as the producer.
Eddie Murphy Raw is the big comedy video. Be warned: It's not PC and it's DEFINITELY NSFW
Gen X here, and grew up with Eddie! Seeing your shock is hilarious.
That’s Rick James! You should see Dave Chapelle’s impression of him. 😂
For context you should watch Easy Lover by Phil Collins & Philip Bailey next. It has the same kind of music video from around the same time and it also shows the difference between real singers and an actor/comedian trying to sing
Eddie Murphy's big break cam on SNL when he was 19 years old. He was brilliant - created so many characters and had us ROLLING - so clever and irreverent. Tons of great movies - and especially you need to see Dreamgirls. He was nominated for an Oscar for his dramatic musical role. It also stars Jennifer Hudson (who won an Oscar for her role), Jamie Foxx, and Beyonce, among others.
He started as a comedian on SNL. Rick James pulled him to the studio to record just for fun. No one expected it to sell, but Rick James singing background helped
Eddie Murphy got so famous off his standup and acting he was able to indulge himself and make an album. You should react to his slow ballad, How Could It Be?- that will REALLY blow your mind :-)
Britt looks breathtaking! WOW! She is glowing. I wonder if there's a bun in the oven?
Eddie murphy and Rick James on the Mike, Eddie Murphy started on SNL in 1980 that lead to Eddie murphy movies then recording songs.
Girl, I was screaming at you! 😂 Rick James!! I've always loved this song and still listen to it! I knew you would love this one 😊
I think you reacted to Rick James singing Happy with Teena Marie about 8 months ago. He's the one with the hair. I hope you'll react to Fire and Desire with Rick James and Teena Marie who has a deep catalog of hits.
The show " Fridays " does the BEST send up of this song HILARIOUS !!!
Eddie sang in Dresmgirls. Rick James' hits include SuperFreak and Fire and Desire with Teena Marie.
This is actually R.S. (aka Roll Safe) - Fire In The Booth.
Bruce Willis also had a hit song in the 80’s and an entire album named The Return of Bruno.
His song was not as famous as this one though.
Eddie Murphy -"Raw" standup is a MUST watch.
Eddie was such a big actor that he decided to start singing
Eddie Murphy was a comedian first then actor and he did this song for one of his movies and that man that sang with Eddie Murphy is Rick James
@Britt keep in mind no comic every started this on fire, did 48 hours, trading spaces, and beverly hills cop as his first 3 films then did this song..... he also had another hit in the usa with put your mouth on me..... but if you want to see Eddie act and sing his best go watch Dreamgirls, it has Beyonce too. Thanks for adding this to your reactions
I forgot he was in that! Yeah, he was great.
Ok, I love Eddie Murphy as donkey too, and 48 hours is awesome, but you have to see Eddie Murphy in ‘Coming To America’. He plays like 5 characters, and it’s just fun and funny and sweet.
YES!!
Eddie did a song with Michael Jackson and he did all his own singing in the movie Dreamgirls. He was Jamie Foxx before Jamie Foxx. He could do everything.
One of my favorite Eddie bits from his specials is one where he is talking about getting a phone call from Bill Cosby about his show, it is on youtube
Yeah, Britt! This was a HUGE HIT in the 80s! Chart-wise, it was the biggest song Rick James wrote(even bigger than Super Freak)! It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart
You need to see Charlie Murphy tell the stories about Rick James on the Dave Chapell show. So funny!
Eddie started as a standup, then became HUGE as a cast member of SNL. From that he started in movies and recorded music. If you don’t know who Rick James is (“that guy with the wig”) then that’s a rabbit hole you MUST go down!
Eddie Murphy's Delirious is one of his best stand ups.
My best friend and I used to go out every weekend and we would stop at this little dive bar and play a couple games of table shuffleboard and play this song on the jute box before heading out to our favorite clubs. Loved this song back then. Really got us in the mood to go party!
Told you Britt when I dropped this video on you, he's a suprise ! Older Hollyweird actors had to dance, sing, act, and work their butts off to "make it." Eddie is a one in a million person.
The guy with the long hair is the late great Rick James, who wrote and produced that song for Eddie Murphy, as well as part of his debut album in 1984. I believe he released about three albums, his last one in 1993, I believe. He was a legitimate singer, and this song, Party All The Time, actually charted on Billboard, in the pop category.
I was on the road when this song came out. We learned it. The girl in the band sang it. She changed the words to "My guy likes to party all the time".
7:07 He started on SNL. His first movie was 48 Hrs. He did a stand up movie around then. I think that’s where the talking cars bit came from.
I actually liked this song. Very catchy and Eddie’s voice isn’t bad. 👍🏽
This is actually R.S. (aka Roll Safe) - Fire In The Booth.
Believe the other gentlemen is Rick James (Big hit song was Super Freak) who had a good run but sadly it seems his life ended tragically.
Eddie Murphy made 3 music albums, How could it be (1985), So happy (1989) Love's alright (1992). Before these he had made 2 comedy albums in 1982 &1983.
I like how Rick James can't take it anymore and joins the musicians.
Eddie's standup comedy special "Raw" is a must see.
Eddie was a comedian 1st, than an actor, then he tried singing. How could you forget 48Hrs, Trading Places, Golden Child...... So many great movies. That guy in the golden wig is Rick James. I Love Your Reactions! ALOHA from Manoa Valley, Honolulu, HI🌴🌴🍍🤙
That is Rick James singing with Eddie, one of the classic funk artists of the 70's and 80's. Check out his hits "Super Freak", "Give It To Me Baby"' " Mary Jane"' "You And I"', and the ballad "Ebony Eyes" with Smokey Robinson.
Shocking to many,, Early in this legendary actors career (1976),, He would also record some albums,, John Travolta "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" & "Let Her In" ❤
Eddie actually has a great voice. He has made a few songs during the 80's.
He actually did a song with Michael Jackson:
"Whatzupwitu" (pronounced "what's up with you") is a 1993 R&B song by Eddie Murphy, featuring Michael Jackson. It is included as the sixth track on Murphy's third studio album Love's Alright. Jackson decided to participate in the song and video since he thought the lyrics had a positive message.[1]
If you notice as well his best friend Clint Smith was in this video who also was in the movie "Coming to America" along with Eddie and Arsenio Hall as the three barbershop characters
Eddie learned to sing by doing impressions. Elvis, James Brown, etc..being able to do so many voices, it wasn’t surprising he could sing for real. Comedy shows to watch “Delerius” “Raw”.
Eddie Murphy the actor/comedian came out first. He joined Saturday Night Live, I think in 1981.
The man with the blonde hair is Rick James
Its Dave Chappelle
lol I was screaming it's Dave Chappelle
"CHARLIE MURPHY!"😂
Eddie Murphy Raw was always my favorite Stand-up special he did
Two standup specials stand out, Raw and Delirious, the kind of shows that you would wait till your parents were out of the house for the night before throwing into the VCR. When he did the movie Beverly Hills Cop there is a scene where he walks past two men dressed in outfits similar to the ones he wore in those specials.
No it was Arnold in Kindergarten Cop
Eddie was always a musician just as long as he was a comedic
The Blonde 'wig' is Rick James!! Eddie was comedy and acting first the song/album came later. Check out Eddie Murphy raw just in private, it IS raw.
A lot of actors in the 80s made a video for MTV, Bruce Willis even released a track. "Respect Yourself" Eddie Murphy and Rick James was a good combo.👍🏻
Eddie Murphy Delirious and Eddie Murphy Raw. Are his best shows filled with content for reacting to
It's really Eddie singing. Lol. Part of the reason for this video of him singing in the studio was to prove it was him singing. :) That's Rick James singing with him (Super Freak singer and his music producer). I think most people "discovered" Eddie Murphy from his days on SNL. He might have done stand up first; not sure. I certainly heard of him on SNL first and watched his stand up shortly thereafter. People couldn't get enough of Eddie! And everything he did was gold. You should really watch him play Mr. Robinson (spoof of Mr. Rogers) and Gumby (do you know who Gumby is???) on SNL. I laughed so hard at those bits as a kid!!! X)
I think his first stand up special was called Delirious; might as well start at the beginning. It's all good; he is a national treasure. :) P.S. -- Trigger warning - Eddie is a very dirty comic. You are warned.
❤ your reaction - you are too cute!😄 Remember Eddie also did musicals like "Dreamgirls" so he got the chops. Yep. Stand up and comedy was 1st where you got a hint of the singing talent.
That's Rick James! You gonna go down that rabbit hole now!
It was on the radio. Gen X loves Eddie.
All I got to say is 48hours is his best work. Love those two movies.
It’s Actually Eddie Murphy & Rick James!
Eddie started as a standup comedian, then moved to acting and dipped his toe into singing, Rick James (blonde hair) sang Super Freak.
There were three songs he cut for his comedy albums this was the serious song, the second song a parody of the song Enough is enough by Streisand (Barbara) and Summer (Donna). But he sings it as buckwheat from the little rascals and Richard Simmons the third song is boogie in your butt. Knowing Eddie Murphy‘s comedy probably gives you a hint about the words.
I always hate it when Rick James' involvement in this song is overlooked. Without Rick, none of this would exist.
Truth
Probably a good thing though because this made Eddie believe he was actually a great singer
The guy with the blonde curls is Rick James, someone who knows about partying.
That man is Rick James.
In his comedy specials "Raw" and "Delirious" he has some great impressions of singers, you really should watch these
In the mid 80's a lot of actors got into singing, Eddie Murphy, Don Johnson and Patrick Swayze come to mind.
Yeah the guy with the blonde hair, Rick James. His career took a nose dive a couple of years after this. He was arrested, charged, and convicted on drug charges, kidnapping, and assault on at least two women. Served two of four years in Folsom Prison. He passed away in 2004 from a heat attack at age 56 from years of drug abuse.
A number of actors came out with records around the mid 80's Patrick Swayze & a few other ones Eddie's was by far the best. He's came out with one or two more albums since then.Eddie started out as a stand up comedian. For a few years he was on SNL,them he went into acting
He was a comic first then cast on SNL then went back to stand up comedy then acting.
“Put Your Mouth On Me” Is Also A Good Eddie Murphy Song 🎵
This is actually R.S. (aka Roll Safe) - Fire In The Booth.
