Imo, I always felt like it only got as much attention as it did because of his name. The song isn't bad obviously but it is no better or worse than Bruce Willis covering Respect, which I happened to like but his star status always seemed to be used against him.

This was HUGE! This is when he started doing movies which were funny as he'll. He has the best stand up EVER!!! LOVE him so much!! He only did one album. It wasn't he first love plus it was said that Rick got jealous ?
I remember back when this came out everybody was glued to MTV waiting for this to debut so we could see if he could really sing. He did good. Never understood why he never did another song.

I must have listened to this 2 hours on repeat on my Walkman when it came out. And I still have it on my i-pod! Sadly, this was Eddie's only hit, but Rick James (with the longer hair singing with him at the end) has quite a few.
My mom and I would get so happy when this came on the radio when I was a kid. Eddie Murphy was a HUGE a star in the 80’s we watched all his movies!

Ahh,the origin story of the Chappelle skit: I'm Rick James b*tch!!!😁 One thing I do find odd is, the whole cancel culture thing.On one hand, a guy like John Wayne for an example: died decades ago,and even though he was the only person in Hollywood who would cast Woody Strode,was cancelled for some of the derogatory terms he used back in the 1960's. Yet, here's Eddie who's alive...who became famous for his standup routines, where he used derogatory terms for just about everyone.
