Grace Alexander this makes me so happy and reminds me of our lorikeet named Blaze :) she eventually was free range in our backyard and was just like another family member!
Normally, when an animal is in such high numbers throughout a country, and this bloody noisy, people would call for a cull. But the lorikeet is such a colourful and pretty parrot, its appearance saves it everytime :')
@@ncc1701deee The ecosystem of New Zealand is pretty fragile, due to how it has been isolated for many millions of years. They take looking after their ecosystem quite seriously: www.doc.govt.nz/nature/pests-and-threats/animal-pests/rainbow-lorikeet/
Lorikeets are some noisy birds. We took a tour in Queensland and one of the places we stopped for lunch they had wild lorikeets there. They'd swoop down on the tables and steal the sugar packets. But when we all ate the bus driver came out with some tin plates smeared with strawberry jam. You held out your hand and literally had a dozen lorikeets around the plate and up your arm just squawking and eating away. There were a couple of kids in the group, they had the time of their lives there being surrounded by all these very colorful, and noisy, parrots.
We have a massive fig tree in our local shops in north Brisbane and from about 4pm to 6ish hundreds of lorikeets chirping like mad. And same thing moment they see food your surrounded by up to 30/40 keets
I have read some comments made by some people that lorikeets should not be fed with bread. Then I am wondering how these lorikeets are surviving in such a number in multiples without dying. They look very healthy and hungry.
The tip of a lorikeet's tongue holds a brush-like appendage, enabling the bird to feed on pollen, nectar and fruits. Because lorikeets are mainly seen feeding on blossoms, it was long thought that nectar was their staple diet. However, studies have now shown that pollen is probably their major food. They also eat insects and insect larvae, together with other invertebrates found in foliage and blossom.
I went off to a nature place where they had a cage full of lorikeets, and you could pay £1.00 to go and feed them some nectar. I ended up with 4 on my arm fighting over the nectar pot (even once it was empty) and one on my shoulder screeching in my ear for about a minute.
some poeple are not very educated when comes to there just fascinated by them but they don't really understand what there doing to them when they feed them junk food I had a leery there are lots of fun but also lots of work which so many poeple don't like to do hlong mo
nah, just didn't have the required 1000 subscribers to have monetisation enabled on the channel. I've just reached that number so the channel should have monetisation back this week. Yay, enough money to buy a coffee twice a week!
Why are you feeding them bread? They are nectar feeders, they aren't built to digest copious amounts of bread. There are plenty of commercially available nectar replacement foods available, mix with warm water, stir and you could sell it for $1 per cup. The birds would still go nuts and flock to the tourists and you could make loads without harming the birds.
They do eat a wide variety of foods, but bread is especially bad for them. I would actively discourage everyone from thinking its okay. They are not allowed chocolate, avocado or any alcohol based foods. They can eat most fruit, they enjoy dark green leafy vegetables, and one person who looked after lorikeets for years says they also eat sunflower seeds, but NOT EXCLUSIVELY sunflower seeds. They require a wide variety of foods and as verticalsmurf mentioned, there are some good complete Lorikeet commercial mixes out there which will do no harm and still not cost the earth.
How about instead of poisoning them with man-made "JUNK", you suggest fruits, and other foods they eat in the wild. Better yet: feed them very little so that they'll continue to forage for their food, so they will not become dependent upon people feeding them. If they ever forget how to find their own food in their own habitat, they will become extinct. They are not city pigeons!
They are so beautiful and demanding at the same time but what the hell was that woman doing not looking where she was stepping!!!. The one in the bikini top. She had her foot on a loris tail for quite some time, she could have killed the poor bird. They really should be giving people recyclable cups not placing feed on people's hands, its unhygienic for them. If that's bread they are feeding with honey, well hate to be a party pooper but they have all aided in shortening these birds life span considerably as a high sugar diet is not healthy for them. Too much sugar can ruin the tips of their tongues and cause them to starve to death, as it will lessen their chances of being able brush out pollen and nectar from native flowers. They love honey and this park knows they will return for it.One of their main attractions I guess.
Lorries will bite you if they feel threatened, just like this one did to get her off. They know they're not safe on the ground & need to be cautious, if they're not that's evolution in play :)
I haven't, but I've seen clips of the movie, and heard enough about it, to always keep natural instinct in mind. With my luck - that happened to me twice in my life. I think it's funny... i got beat up by birds! 😂😂😂
I miss my girl, Einstein, she was only 16. A gorgeous, chatty, snuggly, fluffy girl who loved a bath. Even in winter. She was a mad bird.
Ive never seen a Lorikeet, they are beautiful!

ah.......kind of no. They aren't being saved by their appearance in new zealand, or southwest australia which is outside their usual range.
@@BaseReality hmmm damn. they are in new zealand? and people want cull them? :o

They’re being culled in Western Australia where they aren’t native. They destroy their fruit orchards impacting local businesses.

FYI It is not just bread. It is a special formulated mix of honey and nectar on a bread base. Not just bread.

All of Queensland Australia has this species comrade - they are eating honey water and bread

feeding them water soak bread is totally fine. It will cause them zero problems. It is fresh bread that is the problem.
im prttty sure its soaked in either a special lorikeet nectar dust or honey. These things love to eat nectar.
