I have 2 songbird feeders, Finch sock, Oriole feeder and hummingbird. Thinking of trying meal worms this year. I want the Suet feeder again, but the darn squirrels. I saw a Suet feeder for $40 at the bird store. Heavy duty, with Lock! Lol. One way to keep them from stealing it if you have that kind of money to throw! 😄 Happy Birding! 🐦

Another great piece of film.There's so much activity, it's impossible to focus on any one bird.We don't have this species of Woodpecker,(Red Headed?,)and the species near the end,(Black Woodpecker ?,) looked positively prehistoric.Once again,what a place! PS.When l was a kid,l managed to pick up a book at a Jumble Sale, would you believe it, this book turned out to be one of the most important books ever published,(although I certainly didn't know it at the time, namely,The Book Of Rarer British!!? Birds,by PAD Hollom,l still have it! In that book was a bird called a Rose Breasted Grosbeak,it was, and still is, one of my favourite birds,so to see it here in this film is fantastic.

Yes, the Red-headed Woodpecker was the one that looked like it was wearing a red hood completely covering its head. The large woodpecker at the end was the Pileated. It strongly resembles the extinct, prehistoric Ivory-Billed Woodpecker. The Rose-breasted Grosbeak is one of my favorite birds also. So glad you got to see them. I have several vids featuring them. Thanks for sharing. I love watching birds. I have to keep my feeder, suet and water under carport because the hawks are so bad, here, in MD. I have a big tree and bushes right near by, too to help hide the birds. Plus, the neighbors let their cats out. I have 4 kitties, but they are indoor and love to watch. the birds, squirrels, chipmunks and bunnies that eat the seed, etc. that falls from the feeder. : )

We rarely have hawks around, but we once heard an unusual sound, turned around and saw feathers floating down, and then located the hawk in our neighbor's yard, devouring a mourning dove :(
leeann cornell We have many varieties of hawks here in PA. The crows and bigger birds are adept at chasing them off. There may be 5-6 birds at a time chasing a hawk while hes screaming and screeching at the attack. Its cool to watch. Fortunately, we havent had any casualties yet...from house cats (I keep mine inside too) or the hawks.

What a fantastic restaurant. I think I need to pull together a bird bucket list, as have never seen a cardinal - adorable. We don't get them in New Zealand - in fact the only familiar one in this vid is the sparrow.

The red headed woodpecker and the Oriole were impressive. I saw a yellow shafted flicker !! He is so big! So beautiful! The woodpeckers do best at the hanging suet. The tray feeding is awkward for them. What was the bright yellow bird feeding at the far left?
Thank you. Looks like a piece of heaven right here on earth, I am a wildlife artist who works in stone, wood and metals. Of late, I have been doing bird carvings in pine and painting them. So it is invaluable for me to see how they move and look in the light at certain angles. Birds and butterflies and even some of the beetles are God's gift of living jewels for us to appreciate and awe over.
@@annahkurtin9665 "Retired to the soil"? Is that a nice way of saying, you "buried" them? LOL. I'm sure your neighbor felt like doing that. I did have some pileated woodpeckers do some serious damage to a 4 x 4 decorative post, digging out some wood borer bees, which had already done some serious damage themselves. I couldn't figure out who to root for. LOL.
This year I skipped sunflower seed and nyjer seed in the summer and most of fall, because the house finches and sparrows had taken over. I started feeding birds again when the weather turned colder and snowy. Will probably continue through spring because of the colorful variety of birds that visit as seen in this vid. I'm using Suet Plus by St. Albans Bay. Use mostly their Sunflower Blend and Peanut Blend. Rural King sells them for .69 a cake here in south central Indiana. I do feel very blessed to have both of these woodpeckers. Can't take my eyes off them when they're feeding. Happy to share them with you...stop by often to enjoy them.

The orange and black birds are baltimore orioles; yellow and black, goldfinches; black and white with pink/red V on breast are rose-breasted grosbeaks. The large woodpecker at the end is the pileated. Any others you wish to ID, just describe and put what time they appear and I will try to ID them.
I have seen bluebirds at my birdbath twice, but have never tried attracting them, nor do I have much open area for a bluebird house. I hear they love mealworms.
I use St. Albans Bay Suet Plus in the Woodpecker Blend and the Sunflower Seed blend. I think the birds eat it so fast it doesn't have time to spoil. Thanks for watching.

I am in Maryland and although they are in my range I rarely see the Orchard or Baltimore Orioles, Redheaded Wood Peckers, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks in my woods or at my feeders. I am very envious! Thanks for watching. South central Indiana in my small backyard. The adjoining woodlot is less than 100 yards wide and about 1/2 mile long, bordering a river. When I started feeding birds, I had no idea there was such a large variety of avian beauties around: over 60 species. I remain amazed, blessed and very grateful.
Birds Choice 1009 Oriole-Fest Oriole Feeder, 12-Ounce, Orange on Amazon for $27.10. It holds grape jam/jelly in the 4 ports and sugar water also. As you can see, a lot of birds love the grape jam/Jelly.
Do the grosbeaks and orioles stay all spring and summer long or do they pass through? Mine stay a few weeks but don't return with their fledglings as much as I hope. Orioles this past spring stayed into early july. which is the longest they ever stayed. usually they come through for two weeks or so. We have an abundance of goldfinches but they are scarce from november to he end of february.
Where are you located? Never in my life have I seen so many of the elusive Woodpeckers and flicker. You're so lucky. And BTW, what kind of suet are you feeding?
South central Indiana. Yes, I do realize how fortunate and blessed I am. I never realized all these colorful songbirds and woodpeckers were all around me until I started feeding them. The suet is "Suet Plus" by St. Albans Bay. They make several blends: Sunflower Blend, Woodpecker Blend, Peanut Blend, and Nuts & Berry. All work well. If you have a Rural King store in your area, they probably carry them. Very economical. Just $0.69 each.
creatorwise I watched this video like 3 times, and what I wouldn't give to just get a Pileated to my yard. I know I'll never see the red headed as they are rare here, but u live in what I would call Heaven. I'm so jealous :)

You're welcome and thanks for watching. Some type of sparrow is on the suet feeder. A male baltimore oriole flies in to the orange feeder at that time. On the gazebo sunflower seed feeder are rosebreasted grosbeaks, both male and female. A goldfinch can be partially seen on the thistle seed sock.
Is there a way to prevent house finches from gorging on the grape jelly in oriole feeders? I have the same oriole feeder and a gang of house finches tend to finish it by mid-day, with the poor orioles nearly licking it clean by sundown.
I have been wondering the same thing! They seem to multiply so fast and take over. My orioles seem to be able to fend for themselves, but I replace the jelly twice a day and still it's empty some of the time.
Well the house finches aren't so bad, I suppose. They have cute personalities and a nice bird song. It's funny, the female hooded orioles seem to be only interested in the nectar, whereas the male orioles are the opposite.
I'll take whatever colorful bird I can get in the big city. I'm glad to live in a neighborhood with many trees and maintained gardens, even if it is a few steps away from The Concrete Jungle.
I’m trying to get orioles with sliced oranges, and got a really big suet to try to get a red headed or red bellied woodpecker. I haven’t had much success with them though Bc I don’t live in a forest like u. I live in a suburban neighborhood, but there is a forest not too far in front of our house. We haven’t had any orioles so far, we have never seen a red headed woodpecker ever, and we only saw the red bellied woodpecker once. The suet is mostly eaten by downy woodpeckers, but common birds such as finches and sparrows. Are they living in the forest near me, or did I just get lucky? Edit: I also wanna get Indigo Buntings and Scarlet Tanagers to my feeders as well. I live in southeastern Wisconsin, so I know they are in my area. Have u ever had any success getting these birds to ur feeder? Or do u know the best way to get them to come? I’d really appreciate ur feedback!
I tried oranges for Baltimore orioles, but they didn't work as well grape jelly or jam. I used to see Indigo Buntings in late April, but haven't seen any for 10 years now. I've only seen one scarlet tanager. My birdbook says they feed on insects and fruit. @creatorwise it’s funny Bc even since I made that comment, I’ve had the red bellied woodpecker coming frequently now, so I’m pretty sure he lives nearby. I also got to see the Baltimore Oriole for a split second, but I got too excited when I pointed it out to my parents, and I ended up scaring him away☹️. But I’m hoping he comes back. Find a Field Guide for Birds for your area to see what types of birds may be near. Then use the various bird food recommended, such as black oil sunflower seed, suet cakes, nyjer seed, grape jelly, etc. You could also try Google.
My landlady doesn’t understand the concept that different birds eat differently via ground or feeders. We spent 1000 $ attracting, squirrels, and birds, and then she said only 2 suet. I feel so bad as the squirrels had 2 litter season, because they love no mess peanuts, so beautiful to see such variety, we have sparrows, flickers, Downey’s, chickadees, I moving if she will not let me feed the animals threw winter, I’m pissed.. selfish person she is.

Shower your landlady with love and kindness by inviting her over for a meal or some refreshments. Then while she's in a good mood, show her this video or a similar one with lots of color and variety. As a last resort, tell her that your friend, creatorwise, who posted this vid, is hoping and praying that she will reconsider and befriend you and the beautiful birds :)

That is a female rose-breasted grosbeak, very similar to the female redwing bb. Unbelievable, the huge difference between the male and female rose-breasted. The male is on the right side of the same sunflower seed feeder at the same time. Thanks for watching!
I chase the grackles away by going to my patio door, opening it, and clapping or yelling. After several times they stay away for quite some time. I don't have pigeons, but the mourning doves are similar but smaller. They feed mostly on the ground and it doesn't bother me. There aren't that many.
LOL. Yes, Melissa, and some of my commenters think that Woody Woodpecker was modeled after the Pileated Woodpecker which also has a cameo in this video.

Another great piece of film.There's so much activity, it's impossible to focus on any one bird.We don't have this species of Woodpecker,(Red Headed?,)and the species near the end,(Black Woodpecker ?,) looked positively prehistoric.Once again,what a place! PS.When l was a kid,l managed to pick up a book at a Jumble Sale, would you believe it, this book turned out to be one of the most important books ever published,(although I certainly didn't know it at the time, namely,The Book Of Rarer British!!? Birds,by PAD Hollom,l still have it! In that book was a bird called a Rose Breasted Grosbeak,it was, and still is, one of my favourite birds,so to see it here in this film is fantastic.

Yes, the Red-headed Woodpecker was the one that looked like it was wearing a red hood completely covering its head. The large woodpecker at the end was the Pileated. It strongly resembles the extinct, prehistoric Ivory-Billed Woodpecker. The Rose-breasted Grosbeak is one of my favorite birds also. So glad you got to see them. I have several vids featuring them. Thanks for sharing. I love watching birds. I have to keep my feeder, suet and water under carport because the hawks are so bad, here, in MD. I have a big tree and bushes right near by, too to help hide the birds. Plus, the neighbors let their cats out. I have 4 kitties, but they are indoor and love to watch. the birds, squirrels, chipmunks and bunnies that eat the seed, etc. that falls from the feeder. : )

We rarely have hawks around, but we once heard an unusual sound, turned around and saw feathers floating down, and then located the hawk in our neighbor's yard, devouring a mourning dove :(
leeann cornell We have many varieties of hawks here in PA. The crows and bigger birds are adept at chasing them off. There may be 5-6 birds at a time chasing a hawk while hes screaming and screeching at the attack. Its cool to watch. Fortunately, we havent had any casualties yet...from house cats (I keep mine inside too) or the hawks.

I do live next to a small woodlot. Along with the birds, I get lots of critters: raccoons, possums, skunks, squirrels, chipmunks, moles, etc.

A red headed woodpecker...those are so rare here in central Wisconsin.

What a fantastic restaurant. I think I need to pull together a bird bucket list, as have never seen a cardinal - adorable. We don't get them in New Zealand - in fact the only familiar one in this vid is the sparrow.

The red headed woodpecker and the Oriole were impressive. I saw a yellow shafted flicker !! He is so big! So beautiful! The woodpeckers do best at the hanging suet. The tray feeding is awkward for them. What was the bright yellow bird feeding at the far left?

Thank you. Looks like a piece of heaven right here on earth, I am a wildlife artist who works in stone, wood and metals. Of late, I have been doing bird carvings in pine and painting them. So it is invaluable for me to see how they move and look in the light at certain angles. Birds and butterflies and even some of the beetles are God's gift of living jewels for us to appreciate and awe over.

A family of flickers decided to clean out my neighbor's gutter - through the metal.

@@creatorwise It was merely noisy and damaged the gutter a bit but the flickers retired to the soil and tons of bugs.

I did have some pileated woodpeckers do some serious damage to a 4 x 4 decorative post, digging out some wood borer bees, which had already done some serious damage themselves. I couldn't figure out who to root for. LOL.

Do you keep food out year round? I've only been putting out food in the fall and winter.
This year I skipped sunflower seed and nyjer seed in the summer and most of fall, because the house finches and sparrows had taken over. I started feeding birds again when the weather turned colder and snowy. Will probably continue through spring because of the colorful variety of birds that visit as seen in this vid. I'm using Suet Plus by St. Albans Bay. Use mostly their Sunflower Blend and Peanut Blend. Rural King sells them for .69 a cake here in south central Indiana. I do feel very blessed to have both of these woodpeckers. Can't take my eyes off them when they're feeding. Happy to share them with you...stop by often to enjoy them.

Thanks for watching, Marcy! Click "Show More" in the description for a list of all the different birds. But it would be very difficult to list them in the order of their appearance. The orange and black birds are baltimore orioles; yellow and black, goldfinches; black and white with pink/red V on breast are rose-breasted grosbeaks. The large woodpecker at the end is the pileated. Any others you wish to ID, just describe and put what time they appear and I will try to ID them.
Have you ever tried attracting bluebirds do you have any open area to put up a bluebird house?
I have seen bluebirds at my birdbath twice, but have never tried attracting them, nor do I have much open area for a bluebird house. I hear they love mealworms.

I am in Maryland and although they are in my range I rarely see the Orchard or Baltimore Orioles, Redheaded Wood Peckers, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks in my woods or at my feeders. I am very envious! Thanks for watching. South central Indiana in my small backyard. The adjoining woodlot is less than 100 yards wide and about 1/2 mile long, bordering a river. When I started feeding birds, I had no idea there was such a large variety of avian beauties around: over 60 species. I remain amazed, blessed and very grateful.

What is in that red feeder?
Birds Choice 1009 Oriole-Fest Oriole Feeder, 12-Ounce, Orange on Amazon for $27.10. It holds grape jam/jelly in the 4 ports and sugar water also. As you can see, a lot of birds love the grape jam/Jelly.
Do the grosbeaks and orioles stay all spring and summer long or do they pass through? Mine stay a few weeks but don't return with their fledglings as much as I hope. Orioles this past spring stayed into early july. which is the longest they ever stayed. usually they come through for two weeks or so. We have an abundance of goldfinches but they are scarce from november to he end of february.
Yes, they both stay all spring and summer long, usually leaving in late August. I am very fortunate to have them that long.

South central Indiana. Yes, I do realize how fortunate and blessed I am. I never realized all these colorful songbirds and woodpeckers were all around me until I started feeding them. The suet is "Suet Plus" by St. Albans Bay. They make several blends: Sunflower Blend, Woodpecker Blend, Peanut Blend, and Nuts & Berry. All work well. If you have a Rural King store in your area, they probably carry them. Very economical. Just $0.69 each.

You're welcome and thanks for watching. Some type of sparrow is on the suet feeder. A male baltimore oriole flies in to the orange feeder at that time. On the gazebo sunflower seed feeder are rosebreasted grosbeaks, both male and female. A goldfinch can be partially seen on the thistle seed sock.

Is there a way to prevent house finches from gorging on the grape jelly in oriole feeders? I have the same oriole feeder and a gang of house finches tend to finish it by mid-day, with the poor orioles nearly licking it clean by sundown.
I have been wondering the same thing! They seem to multiply so fast and take over. My orioles seem to be able to fend for themselves, but I replace the jelly twice a day and still it's empty some of the time.
Well the house finches aren't so bad, I suppose. They have cute personalities and a nice bird song. It's funny, the female hooded orioles seem to be only interested in the nectar, whereas the male orioles are the opposite.
I'll take whatever colorful bird I can get in the big city. I'm glad to live in a neighborhood with many trees and maintained gardens, even if it is a few steps away from The Concrete Jungle.

I’m trying to get orioles with sliced oranges, and got a really big suet to try to get a red headed or red bellied woodpecker. I haven’t had much success with them though Bc I don’t live in a forest like u. I live in a suburban neighborhood, but there is a forest not too far in front of our house. We haven’t had any orioles so far, we have never seen a red headed woodpecker ever, and we only saw the red bellied woodpecker once. The suet is mostly eaten by downy woodpeckers, but common birds such as finches and sparrows. Are they living in the forest near me, or did I just get lucky? Edit: I also wanna get Indigo Buntings and Scarlet Tanagers to my feeders as well. I live in southeastern Wisconsin, so I know they are in my area. Have u ever had any success getting these birds to ur feeder? Or do u know the best way to get them to come? I’d really appreciate ur feedback!
I tried oranges for Baltimore orioles, but they didn't work as well grape jelly or jam. I used to see Indigo Buntings in late April, but haven't seen any for 10 years now. I've only seen one scarlet tanager. My birdbook says they feed on insects and fruit. Find a Field Guide for Birds for your area to see what types of birds may be near. Then use the various bird food recommended, such as black oil sunflower seed, suet cakes, nyjer seed, grape jelly, etc. You could also try Google.
My landlady doesn’t understand the concept that different birds eat differently via ground or feeders. We spent 1000 $ attracting, squirrels, and birds, and then she said only 2 suet. I feel so bad as the squirrels had 2 litter season, because they love no mess peanuts, so beautiful to see such variety, we have sparrows, flickers, Downey’s, chickadees, I moving if she will not let me feed the animals threw winter, I’m pissed.. selfish person she is.

Shower your landlady with love and kindness by inviting her over for a meal or some refreshments. Then while she's in a good mood, show her this video or a similar one with lots of color and variety. As a last resort, tell her that your friend, creatorwise, who posted this vid, is hoping and praying that she will reconsider and befriend you and the beautiful birds :)

That is a female rose-breasted grosbeak, very similar to the female redwing bb. Unbelievable, the huge difference between the male and female rose-breasted. The male is on the right side of the same sunflower seed feeder at the same time. Thanks for watching!
Just curious how do you get the greedy pigeons and crackles away from your feeders?
I chase the grackles away by going to my patio door, opening it, and clapping or yelling. After several times they stay away for quite some time. I don't have pigeons, but the mourning doves are similar but smaller. They feed mostly on the ground and it doesn't bother me. There aren't that many.
