  • This video is about cleaning your Mass Airflow Sensor to clear the reduced performance warning lights and P006A error code. This is a 2013 LR4 but the same method can be used on loads of other cars. If you are looking for sensor cleaner you can find it here amzn.to/2tieiiR.
    Happy cleaning!

    Hey Dave, thanks for the video, very clear and good tip before going to a dealership. I had the same error but only intermittently and I cleaned yesterday both sensors. I hope that it will not appear again.

    Second sensor is clean because its rarely used. Belongs to the second turbo which only kicks in above 3000 rpm. With so much torque the Disco rarely needs to venture beyond 3000 rpm .

    I do this on all my cars with an MAF from time to time. It's amazing how much difference it makes if it's been neglected for awhile :)

      The error message never came back, so that must have been the problem. I wonder how much that would have cost at a dealer!

      @@DipstickDave 200 UK pounds for the part plus whatever they charge for diagnosing the fault and fitting the part.
      At jaguar you won't see much change from 500 quid after all that. They wont clean sensors just replace them.
      My son's jaguar Xf has the same issue but the sensor has failed. I bought an OEM part for 95 UK pounds.

    Thanks for the reply Iv had a good look round the engine at the hoses and all connections and all seem tight and clean , the scanner I have is a Konnwei KW808 OBD11/EOBD which seems to communicate with the car ok and apparently is ok for Landrover, the only clue is that when the car is stone cold in the morning the light is off and will normally come on when the engine has warmed up or bizarrely sometimes when I reverse , I did think was it linked to brake pad wear but I believe that would the red brake light on for that, what I might do is call the AA out sometime when the light is on and see what they make of it.

      Without the code you're shooting in the breeze. If not the mass air sensor, it could be crank position, cat, ox, turbo sensor or just a wiring problem somewhere. If you have AA home start then their reader will find the problem. Or just pop into a local landrover specialist, or good forbid a dealer if your feeling flush. If your on the landrover forums you could see if someone local has a nanocom or foxwell or some other reader proven with Landrover's. Good luck, sorry I couldn't be more help.

      Just an update it might be useful to anyone reading, went to an independent approved Landrover garage and there were 2 codes showing , 1 for a broken breather pipe apparently and 1 for water in fuel filter , both items renewed at a cost of £295 ! Car running perfectly again now.

    Any idea what the bolts are that hold them in place. I managed to drop one when removing them. Searched high and low for the thread type to no avail.

    Just tried this on a 2011 RRS but Restricted problem came back at high speed. I also swapped the sensors over so expecting to show MAS 'B' in fault code now. interesting that MAS A is for 2nd turbo and is cleaner as less used. 'A' doesn't use the temp sensor hence only 3 wires in connector, 'B' (nearest from front) has 4 wires. Both sensors are identical so can be swapped over. Ordered a new one. If that doesn't fix it will check for cracks and leaks.

    Are the sensors exactly the same ? if so you could swop the dirty one with the cleaner one ?

    Hey, I’m actually trying this today! (This morning!) I’ve had the dreaded performance message appearing when I go over 60 - which is pretty annoying! This is my first time doing ANYTHING with mechanics of a car!

      @@DipstickDave I got them both off in about 20 mins, the 1st lower nut on the 2nd sensor took a lot of patience to get off, they hid that pretty well! The first sensor was pretty bad I’d say, 2nd spotless. They are now drying before putting them both back (hopefully! Lol).

    Hopefully it worked, so you didn't have to go to the stealership.
    My brother needed a new battery for his Range Rover. Jag/LR quoted £400 for the battery, and £500 for the job, so I told him to get himself down to Halfords.
    Their selections are excellent. They made sure he got the right one.
    £219 for the battery and £27 for the job.

    I have the restricted performance and think it could be maf related. Out of interest was your problem only when cold enough to activate heated windscreen and did it disappear on restart ?

    • @DipstickDave
      @DipstickDave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No my problem was in the spring/earlier summer. It was fine on startup and only happened when the wife gunned it out of the driveway and up the hill.
      I would check you hoses too. Just in case the cold weather is contracting a seal or a split somewhere.

    • @Gazzelle16
      @Gazzelle16 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dipstick Dave it’s odd that it’s only on start up, I would have thought the fault would throw whatever time if there was a leak?

    • @DipstickDave
      @DipstickDave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s a seal or even a turbo gasket, it could seal itself went it heats up. Bottom line it’s either a sensor (dirty/faulty) or air getting into the system somehow(split in pipe, seal or gasket). It’s one of things you have to do a bit of investigating, but start with the cheapest first!

    Hi Dave Iv got the yellow triangle coming up intermittently with Restricted Performance message although there don,t seem to be any lack of performance , Iv removed the MAF,s and cleaned them and hasn,t made any difference and Iv tried 2 handheld diagnostic devices and they say no code stored , Any ideas please Iv a 2010 Discovery 4 ?

    • @DipstickDave
      @DipstickDave  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Barry, It's really odd that you're not getting any error codes. What readers are you using? I use the Foxwell NT510 and its very good. Does your code readers have Landrover specific software as basic code readers won't work.
      As for the error it's self, double check for air leaks on the pipes via cracks or loose connections. It could also be oxygen sensors, but again you should be getting error codes.

    Dave had an irritating problem with my 2015 LR4. Going up a slope on motorway with just a light pressure on throttle I get Restricted performance. Stop, switch engine off and on again and fault clears. It’s okay uphill under load, and it an issue on flat or downhill. Garage have not been able to fix it although after Cam belt change it was good for about 400 miles despite best effort to replicate fault. Then started again - could it really just be a dirty MAF sensor?

    • @veloistist
      @veloistist ปีที่แล้ว

      Not an issue on flat/downhill

    And a mecanic want to open the engine ... to watch this video help me to do this first I stop him
    Thank if you can have any idea for this Code P006A

      +Kingnlibger11 King
      Hi, P006a is the MAF sensor. If cleaning it hasn't solved it, check everywhere for air leaks. Check the clamps are nice and tight, and there are no cracks anywhere on the plastic pipes. They can crack when you force them out. If there is, duck tape them to get home.
      It's crappy breaking down on holiday it's happened so many time with me. Good luck on getting home. Luckily it's not the worst error to have, but still a pain.

    • @DipstickDave
      @DipstickDave  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be faulty sensors or air might be getting into the pipes somewhere. Cracked plastic or a leak on the turbos.
