My recommendation is to have another dram of the Kilkerran and then put it away until spring.
I am finding the heavily peated range really blossom when left at/below the shoulder for a few weeks; it becomes a different animal altogether.
    Stay warm!

I concur with this. I had two drams from my bottle and left It for two months - completely different whisky now!
      Great review, Jon!

I agree! From my experience as well, all my Kilkerran (12, 16, 8CS and HP) tasted a lot better after 6 months + (around half or lower bottle level) and the whisky becomes complex and interesting

Kilkerran HP is amazing. For me it beat out Octomore 13.1 in a blind tasting

Thanks for a nice review and for your concern for those less fortunate that are braving the cold as best they can. The cold and bad weather does not discriminate. The best in 2024. Slàinte Mhath!

Kilkerran Heavily Peated is amazing. I was looking for the 12 and all they had was the HP, so I gave it a try.. Went back the next day and bought a back up.

Hello Jon. It is always fun to your watch video with my kids when you review those bottles that I share with you 😊. I really enjoyed Paul John Christmas Blend that you shared with me. It is like warm spiced Christmas pudding with salted caramel sauce. I hope that Kilkerran HP gets better once it gets more oxidized. Stay warm and safe!

It sounds like you're enjoying that bottle of Paul John. Darned nice gift! It may not last long but, after all, whisky's made for drinking (and sharing ).
And you certainly are colour coordinating the PJ with the new shirt...😉 Well done Lyn!
Kilkerran always delivers. At cask strength? Gotta be great! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one. Think I'll pour a dram of the 12 later this evening.
Temperature is dropping drastically this week here as well. Hope the folk that need to can find safe shelter 🙏
    Cheers, my friend 🥃

Nice review Jon. The Paul John Christmas 2021 is a very nice whisky, so much so that it is one of my wife's favourites and she suggested we buy backups. Yes, you read that right, it was plural!!! As for the Kilkerran Heavily Peated I got a Batch 9 last year and am seriously considering purchasing the Batch 10 as I see a retailer with what seems a fairly decent price. I've not had the Heavily Peated but have had an 8 yo cask strength that was rather nice but somewhat overshadowed at the tasting by cask strength Macduff, Mortlach, and Royal Lochnagar.

Oooo that last list of cask strength Scotch sure sounds excellent! I have not had any from that line, so I cannot compare, but the Heavily peated is very good for me. Brash, but so tasty. Thanks for sharing, cheers!

Glad your heater works! I just looked up the temperature in Edmonton and it's -21ºF ... 🥶🥶🥶 Everybody is freaking out here in Houston over the impending 20-degree weather coming. That's 20 degrees as in PLUS 20ºF - 40 degrees warmer than your part of the world. We're so soft down here when it comes to the cold. 😂 Cheers!

We all get used to the climate we are in. This is cold, like crazy cold, but also we don't mind some temperatures that would be insane in Texas!! I'm sure it works that way the other way with Hot numbers! cheers!

My backlog of open bottles has made me reluctant to open my KK8 yet but it is obvious you really enjoyed it. Now I must get it open as soon as possible. Never had Paul John but again your review was very positive. Great work Jon.

@@WhiskyNeighbour So far I have not tried KK but have a Campbeltown Loch open, it is excellent and also have a Nas Longrow from which I get a particularly interesting note of something which reminds me of Linseed oil as used on a cricket bat!Sooner or later I will get to try SB and KK.

Thank you for the review Jon I appreciate your thoughts for the less fortunate my brother died on the street many years ago he was 35. I always try to do my best to help those in need that I can but it is such a growing situation.
As for the kilkerran heavily peated I missed out but managed to get a kilkerran 16 and the 12 I absolutely love the 12 I have not opened up the 16 yet I need a back up I have three back ups of the 12
As for the PAUL, John, I am not tried any Indian whiskeys yet, but I am going to the Calgary MS whiskey festival on Thursday. I’m going to try many new whiskeys.
And by the way, I still have those three samples for you. I just need to know how to get them to you.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

So sorry to hear of your loss. I am thankful for the many teams and people who are trying to help, but the problem is growing for sure. Sounds like you are well stocked for Kilkerran! I hope you enjoy the MS festival and all the new whiskies there. Right ... I don't think I am coming to Calgary now for a while. I had thought I might drop in for a conference, but that is not happening now. I know they are amazing, so I want to chase them down, but if you can hold on, I might be coming down in a couple of months.

Thanks for the review, both of these whiskies sound great and 2 very good gifts! I must admit though, I rather naively read heavily peated and believe it, a little bit like compass box’s peat monster 😂 cheers!
