  • In this video I install a conversion kit to move my forward controls 1.2" closer to the rider. It made an amazing difference for me when riding.

    I would have left that bolt you bought just cut it shorter. I have the same problem and you described it perfectly about your feet floating and my right foot sliding off the peg. I also had a knee problem bending around the stock air filter the old arthritis thing. Switched to a SE heavy breather and the problem is gone. Must do that install myself one day soon before my next upcoming long ride. Thanks for the video. Cheers!

    Hi, I just did this kit on my 06 Dyna. The kit I used was from Vtwin mfg. The brake pedal ends up pretty far up for my taste even with the rod threaded all the way in. I ended up taking off the jam nut and the position is pretty close to perfect for my taste. I plan to remove the rod, have about 3/4 of an inch taken out of the straight section and then of course welded together and reinstall. I have seen quite a few others comment on the rod being too long and also very close to the exhaust or front bracket depending on adjustment. The left side is a breeze. The right side seems like it just about fits with zero room for error or adjustment. Now in my case if the nut on the master were to somehow miraculously slowly loosen up, it would drive the rod out and pedal up so i'm really not worried but I think this kit is very good exception of the rod and also Vtwins bolts are too soft. Thanks for the vid BTW.

      Thanks for the details, I'm sure this will help others. Fitment worked out great for me. The only problem I had was getting the old brake lever assembly apart as you saw. I think the previous guy used red loctite. I probably should've tried to heat it up. Oh well, it only cost me a special order bolt. I'm loving 'er now!

      I just did it and it is close to the exhaust. I think since I have the stock rod cutting about a inch out and rewelding it. The brake pedal is so high now, I would like it to sit more forward

    I'm doing right now, and mother ducker, same problem, t45 won't fit into footpeg,lol. And it's 8 o'clock on memorial day weekend so I'm screwed. I put it back together and will have to wait. I also ordered mini footboard to help with that forward control issue. I'll let you know how it works out. I'm riding an 03 wide glide with factory forwards. Wow buddy that stinks. I was not able to get that 1 bolt out, and some people said it was probably in with red loctite. So it would have needed to be heated up pretty good. Keep that in mind.

      @@bluesriderDF or a grinder somehow lol. I have those short t45 sockets, and it wasn't long enough to fit in the footpeg thing. I'm always amazed when something I buy, with ebays " guaranteed fit" actually works. Seems like I'm sending more stuff back than keeping.. I'm most likely converting to mids controls over the winter. Have a good day man, stay safe out there.

    I just wanted to mention midway through where I had to drill out that bolt... someone said it was probably attached with red Loctite and probably needed to be heated to be removed. So if you have a problem like I did you can try that.

      @bodeine454 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is what I did when I took mine off to clean and lube the moving parts. My propane torch caught on fire 🔥 while I was heating the bolt and scared the bajingles out of me, I thought it might blow up in my face (it was an old torch, the O-rings in the valve were worn or dry rotted). But it worked out pretty good in the end.

    Forward controls need 2" spacers to help flare your legs out or you'll have sore crotch muscles. Make sure your kit comes with spacers or you'll hate them.

    Nice video. I was wondering about the engine guard mount to the down tube of the frame with the U-Bolt. Is that your fix to add the engine guard or is that how Harley does it? Either way , if it works it's good. Thanks.

    Is it alot difference in angle on the brake/gear pedal if you compare the before and after?

      @bluesriderDF  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No change in angle on the brake side. If you look at the video thumbnail pic you'll see the angle is the same. On the shifter side, you can loosen the shifter and rotate to where it feels good. I moved mine a slight bit.

    Thanks for the video I got to do something like this. Couple days ago I bought the worst Harley somebody like me could buy. the old Dyna Wide Glide 🙄. I'm 5'7 and that thing is too wide too tall and too long. But it was a hell of a deal, I'll ride it for a minute and get another super glide. But in the meantime I got to bring these pegs back I'm almost afraid to ride the damn thing and that's never happened to me. Has anybody done what my mechanic suggested and just drill more holes in the stock bracket??

    • @bluesriderDF
      @bluesriderDF  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stock Low Rider seat has an removable seat pad (it was removed), so when I added it back I was closer to the pegs, but still not enough. The kit in this video made it perfect.
      You might want to look for a seat that moves you forward.

    • @jamescampbell7823
      @jamescampbell7823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluesriderDF the problem is that when I scoot forward, which I have to do to shift or rear brake, I'm sitting on the gas tank a little. so I don't know if the seat would do it, unless the seat rode up on the tank a good bit more I'll try this kit first, then look for a solo seat option to augment.

      James I just bought a 2002 Dyna Wide Glide. I'm about your height. The controls are way to far out for me. I was thinking of going with foot boards. But this kit has caught my interest. I wish we could have seen a before and after picture. How far back does this kit actually set your controls back ?

      @@bluesriderDF yeah sorry I wasn't looking on here for a while I guess so I didn't see these responses. So what I did first was to put it back to factory because I found out that I had a plus 2 setup because the previous owner was like six five. So factory forward controls are still too far forward so yeah if I do anything I got to bring them back some. One thing I did right away was install mid pegs and that makes a huge difference cuz there's no way I'm going to ride with my feet up there all I do with the forward controls is shift and brake. And 99% of riding is neither one of those two
