I recall another comedian saying that the New York mob didn't demand protection money or a cut of the profits from Rodney's club "Dangerfields." He attributed that to their liking and identifying with Rodney.
That's because he isn't on HBO doing this. Listen to his albums or find club footage, he uses plenty of foul language. Not as much as Eddie Murphy, of course, but he does get more adult.
