- Compulsion brings out a stop-motion trailer for its upcoming South of Midnight. Our protagonist is searching for a huge, snakey creature in the bayou, and busts out magic. South of Midnight has no release date, but will be coming out to Game Pass.

It dis say it was in-engine so it seems like it will!
This looks 10x better than all those games that strive for reality because mimicking reality is still too far.

@@Mimiccry Those are like stock added trailer beats lol. The original recording is just a guy and his guitar cuz it's blues. do some stampin and clappin if you really like those beats though lol.
I highly recommend listening to the original. it isn't as crisp as the Xbox version but the lyrics are so deep and it's the Blues which fits into all eras especially now more than ever. It gives me a sense of purpose and makes me realise that we all suffer bereavement and go through the dark night of the soul and if humanity stand together we can make any future reality possible@@Mimiccry

Red dead redemption 2 has a nice bayou setting down in lemoyne if I’m not mistaken. but then again it’s not solely based on that specific location but is nice nonetheless
I love the Deep South setting. All the marshes and humidity, boons and curses.

It's about time someone delved into the deep and well established folklore of the south. Full of lots of really interesting and awesome monsters and legends.
As a born and raised Arkansas resident, I completely agree with this. I just hope they somewhat involve Arkansas or some other neighboring states, you know? Because like you said, the south is RICH with folklore and history. Whether it’s the backwoods or the bayous, people always have a story to tell as long as there’s someone willing to listen.

I was just listening to the original "Death Don't Have No Mercy" by Blind Gary Davis, and this popped up, looks interesting, It's good to see the blues make a resurgence with such a reverence to the art that this "Shakin Bones" character seems to hold in his design, and direction.
Looks to me that the fingers line up perfectly with the music. Awesome trailer. Hoping we get to explore some awesome Blues culture with some original Black characters. This gives me Supergiant vibes, and as they're my favorite developer, that's extremely high praise. Very very very cool.

Love the Spiderverse style animation, not just the art itself but the way they animate with fewer frames to give it a stop-motion feel. Great stuff.
Got more of a claymation type feel
See, I don’t know if the newer generation knows this, but we call this stop motion because Claymation popularized it, which existed far before spider man had movies. Why do you think that into the spider verse invented not having a smooth frame rate? This game looks nothing like into the spider verse. No cartoon effects, no 2d animation except for the title but that doesn’t count. I love that movie too but it wasn’t even the first movie/tv show to start doing this, many smaller studios had done 2d/3d animation before, and this game is based on claymation, one of the first types of animation.
@UrMom-bb2mi I literally mention stop-motion in my OP & I never said Spiderverse started anything. To deny its influence, though, is just ridiculous.

Holy COW. So im not gonna lie Im JUST NOW seeing this trailer,,, but this is actually insane. Im a huge fan of Louisiana history and culture, and the whole role that swampy blues has played into it, and this instantly gave me chills. The animation, color palette, general theme, music, AMAZING. We need more!!!
