      Jack Schulz lol.....a quality headcover imo factors in 0.000001%....sure it shows mfg took the time to make a d design something with quality....but honestly give me a putter cover off any putter and i am good to go! I like the Scotty Cameron Newport models....will upgrade my Odyssey White Hot Pro 7 w Super Stroke Fatso 5.0 grip.....just can't hit consistently with it, feels out of balance?

    You should do a blind putter test and try to guess which is more expensive based on how it feels when you putt. It’s a great way to remove any visual bias towards clubs and takes looks out of the equation

    When I started golf I had a Ram G Force golf set. It was only about €200 for the whole set, and although I have moved on from the set long ago I actually still ise the putter I had in the bag. I never tested a putter that gave me so much confidence behind the ball and alghough it has no fancy cover or weight system, it is utterly amazing.

    I love how personal putters can be. It matters a little bit on the tech, but what matters most is that you just like what you’re using. It’s nothing like drivers, wedges, or irons. You could have a wood putter and if you like how it feels then that will work for you just as well as a 500 custom putter

  • @billding7073
    @billding7073 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    After 60 years at this game, I believe quality, up to a point, translates to performance. Particularly in terms of longevity of the equipment and consistency from club to club. I have a 20 year old Taylormade B1 Nubbins putter that keeps me around 30 putts a round give or take a couple. Being able read greens and adjust to speed are more critical than the club itself, but the factors all need to work in unison. I like this video because it's fun AND informative. Keep them coming Mr. Shiels.

    • @FlyRiverFly
      @FlyRiverFly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When I started playing golf I started off with an original rainbow 5 putter. Eventually I got a Ping Anser 2 putter. No inserts, smooth face. Certainly not a great deal of detail in the casting. It literally had the address put on the cavity on the back of the putter. I have been using it for about 20 years now because once I learned how to put, no amount of rubber inserts, white dots on the club or artisan etching or grooves on the putter face would make my ball roll any straighter. Its not the canvas, it's the artist.

    It is really all about what you are looking at/standing over the ball and feel in YOUR hands. I have 5-6 putters and putt well with all of them. I rotate them around when my putting goes off a bit and the changes seem to bring my concentration back again. They are all blade types; some with offset, some very little. It works for me and I am a very good putter of the ball. I have just purchased the O Works 1 (on sale now); it is a little heavier than some I have but I am getting used to it after one round. I have a Wilson Lake Shore, a Slotline, an Odyssey Stroke Lab 1, an old MacGregor Bobby Grace Palma Ceia and a Sunset, about a decade old in the group and some friends say I putt best with the Mr Grace putters. Each to his own with putters I believe. Putting is 90%+ in the mind. If you stand over a putt and believe you can hole it no matter what putter you are using, there is a good chance you will. If you stand over a 4ft putt and don't believe you will hole it, you won't! Just watch Lexi Thompson. You can change the grip, change to LH lower, change the length of the shaft and the brand of putter but if you don't have the belief and you can't read greens you have little chance.

    Playing a Cleveland Classic #1 from a few years ago. Costed me about 150€ at the time. I initially wanted a Scotty, but tried a bunch of other putter 'cause why not. And walked out of the shop with the much cheaper and (to me) better feeling alternative. I've replaced the head cover, which indeed was showing some signs of decrepitude after four or five year. Other than that... it looks, close up, much closer to the Mizuno than to the Odyssey in your video despite the price being the other way round.

    Imagine if in Golf there was a price limit for the total amount of your clubs, would be intresting because people might use a seriously cheap putter for a extremely expensive driver. The combos are limitless

    Last season went to the Odyssey Stroke Labs Double wide. Let me preface this by saying I was a Scotty Cameron user exclusively up to this point. The Stroke labs putter was a game changer. Weighted grip. Graphite shaft. Weighted sole. Micro hinge face. Love everything about it. Gone are the ball skids and hops. And it was about half the price of the Scotty. Great video. Thanks for the great content Rick!

    I like that my Ping Piper is a half-moon mallet with 2 alignment lines on either side of the center. A single line along the center doesn't work as well for me. Ideally, I'd get custom-fitted for an Edel, but they're expensive.

    I play a Mizuno M Craft IV in blue, and after I messed around with the weight kit I find it's a wonderful piece of kit, it's the most I have EVER spent on a putter but I also just love the fact that this actual putter just sits behind the ball and doesn't go toe heavy like most blade type putters.....won't change this one....

    My fave playing partner of all time was a Scot who showed up with a bag of clubs that was falling apart, and every club in it was 20 years old and beat up to shit. He said "I used to play when I was a kid, but I don't get much time these days."
    On every tee he'd pick out a club and then chuck the bag on the floor with a clatter. No head covers, nothing.
    He struck everything pure out of the sweet spots and went round one under.
    My hero, then and always. That's the way to play golf.
