I really like that you include the Thai spelling of the words you speak; it helps those of us who can read Thai but are unable to hear Thai words when spoken at normal speed. I follow many Thai teachers on TH-cam, I think your channel is my favorite.
I really appreciate your idea to teach Thai in a different way from other teachers. I'm not saying I don't respect other teachers. I have just discovered your channel and very impressed. Clear and concise and very helpful. One small point: we don’t know the language but we understand basic concepts. Sam-rap something for someone specific. Job done. 1-2 examples are enough :-)
Hi Grace, slightly off topic but i was taught that passive voice is only used for negative situations in Thai. But you said: ห้องน้ำนี้ถูกสร้างขึ้นมา... Is this correct or would Thais normally drop ทูก in that sentence? 🙏 Thanks very much.
ถูกสร้างขึ้นมา is used very common when you want to say ‘was built’. ถูกกิน was eaten ถูกซื้อ was bought I think it’s neutral. Not only used in negative situations. But this pattern isn’t used as often as in English
This is a grammar related question: in the sentence at 06:29 "เราสามารถตัดคำว่า 'เพื่อ' ออกได้" we have both "สามารถ" and "ได้" in the sentence. Why does Thai have both of these words to convey the meaning of "can"? Is there a set grammar rule about this? ขอบพระคุณสำหรับการสอนที่ถูกต้องเสมอมา
You can use ...ได้ and สามารถ...ได้ but to mean can. They are same but สามารถได้ feels more emphasis on the word CAN. You can also think of the word สามารถ...ได้ as "able to".

I think I see this kind of pattern (emphasis by use of multiple words that are similar/same in meaning within the same sentence) with other Thai words. Maybe I will focus on such examples so I can get used to that kind of sentence construction. ขอบคุณ

มีไว้ is "exists for..."
but basically the same and interchangeable.

The word for : for example is tua yang chaeng (ตัวอย่างเช่น). For this word we don’t use the word ‘for’.
