    About 25 years ago my band got through the doors at Warner Brothers after hiring a music attorney. We went on down and our sit down meeting was with non other than Ted Templeman.
    I remember sitting there trying to act cool and pretending I was not aware who he was. We had all decided that we shouldn't freak out.
    Ted played our independently financed album on the worst stereo system I have ever heard. It was possibly mono.
    He was full of complements, however he was looking forward to re,-recording the album with us.
    A voice inside me was saying"This is it. This is the big time. I knew everything would going to turn out alright."
    He said, "don't go anywhere else. Dont go to any other lables until you hear back from me. I'm going to sit down with Mo Ostin and play him some of your songs. I'm going to make this work."
    We are still waiting. Ted, wa happen?
    Haha

But he didn't hate it, and when Ed and Don Landee started to dial "Jump" in, Ted knew they had a big one. Dave did not like any of it, and hated the keys thing too. But same thing. When he started coming up with those killer lyrics, and the song was starting to really take shape... he fell for it as well. How could anyone not ?

    When Ed started recording and mixing at his home studio, the albums started to suck because Ed's not a recording engineer nor mixing engineer nor professional producer. The albums Ted did were epic. Sound, song arrangements.... you need a more unbiased ear and people who know how to do their jobs. Ed's job was to write and play, not be an engineer or mixer. I mean, the vocals even distort on that album with Jump on it.

    • @E.C.2

      Weak thin high treble production and an even weaker b side. "1984" was the first time VH let us down,100% agree. After 1984 Van Halen died,quickly.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@E.C.2 yeah, those covers... his tone was all chorused... Panama sucked a huge one as did Jump. It wasn't that fiery ripping something to prove sound of VH1 and 2. Diver Down was okay tho. But even it was filled with filler tunes. Fair Warning was prob their last good album. I didn't hate the first Hagar album. Had some decent tunes and sounds.

    • @E.C.2
      @E.C.2 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Always thought Diver Down was a tremendously good Rock n Roll LP.
      "1984" literally sounded different,very high end treble. Songs like "I'll Wait" had Ted Templeman produced it,would've been straight guitar w the keyboard middle section breakdown. They were already falling off the cliff before 1986,Sammy just made it official. "We're Richard Marx with an incredible Guitarist Drummer Bassist and Harmony."

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@E.C.2 But OTOH, I can understand why Eddie wanted to add more keyboards. It was something he hadn't done a lot of and he was okay on keyboards. Not great at all but just very average but I know he liked playing the piano etc. But maybe another thing is that they just ran out of good ideas cuz they had stockpiled so many to draw from early on that maybe they were just burned out from touring and writing and the whole grind. 1984 was probably a good change for them. It was just something I had to endure in 1983 and 84 playing Jump and Panama twice a night in bars. :(

    It was 1965, The Tikis played at our High School, Andrew P. Hill in San Jose. I was one of the school photographers - so I followed them around and got some good shots and plenty of autographs. I remember that Dicky S. - his Dad ran a men's clothing store either in San Jose or Santz Cruz. The band consisted of four Ted T. Dicky S., Eddie James and Dick Yount. I still have the autographs they signed that night back in 1965. If you go to your local library you'll see in my second book I published - Christensen's Ultimate Movie, TV and Rock & Roll Address Directory (2nd Ed),
    there in a section in the back on page 357 with sigs of the four. The photo has John Peterson in it - but I didn't have a signature card of him to reproduce on that page. However, on page 293 is a great signed photo of the four Beau Brummels and Sal, Ron, John Peterson and Ron Elliott all the photo. They BOTH had original albums on Tom Donahue's Autumn records in San Francisco - and the producer of the Beau Brummels songs was the great Sly Stewart (Sly Stone literally his family. Back then music was simple and GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roger Christensen, San Diego .....
