- Today I am going to update the iDrive software on my BMW M4. You will find that this same process is the same for all modern BMWs equipped with the iDrive infotainment system.
Download the latest BMW iDrive update for your car with the link below

You will need a USB thumb drive formatted to fat32
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS.
STEP 1: Locate your VIN number.
STEP 2: Find out which iDrive update version you are currently running.
STEP 3: Format your USB thumb drive to fat32.
STEP 4: Go to BMW.com/update
STEP 5: Type in your VIN number to see if there is a update available for your car.
STEP 6: Download update .zip file.
STEP 7: Place update .zip file on your USB drive.
STEP 8: Plug USB thumb drive in the USB port in your car.
STEP 9: Go to system update on iDrive and update to the new firmware.
STEP 10: Turn off the car entirely and then restart the car.
Your iDrive system should now be updated to the latest firmware.

Does this fixes bluetooth issues? I can’t put on music with my phone even if it’s connected
No USB device with software connected to the USB audio interface. This is the message I'm getting after trying 3 different USBs. My screen keeps going out and turning back on. On its own. Bmw 430i. 2017

My update on my 2016 2 Series quits, right at 50% everytime. Tells me to come back later, like iDrive is busy doing it's taxes or something. I've formatted the disk to FAT32 and placed the file at the root directory of the flash drive, so I don't think that's messing it up. Have you heard of/had similar experiences? Any tips?
What if it says there is no updates for my vin?

I would double check the vin on the website.
Unfortunately I have a 2014 435i and the I drive is outdated but when I lock in my vin number it says it’s up to date and doesn’t provide an update .

So there is no way to software update your way to Apple CarPlay. It would have to be a Car Play enabled car from the factory or you would need to retrofit a OEM CarPlay into the car.

Hi thank you for this video, I have a question so I have a 2017 540i g30 and my navigation is on version NBTevo_J and I want to update that to a new version preferably NBTevo_X. Would doing this update NBTevo to a newer version, im not sure if that part of the system aka navigation is the same with iDrive. Sorry if this is confusing
Yes, you can update your 2017 BMW 540i's NBTevo_J navigation system to NBTevo_X. Updating the iDrive system to a newer version often includes updating the navigation software, so you should be able to upgrade to NBTevo_X as part of the process. However, I recommend checking with your local BMW dealership or a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a smooth update.

Does this allow you to get apple carplay? Or is it just on the 2017+
No this will not add Apple Carplay. Bimmer-Tech has a way of adding it to the later cars.

Hi, i have a F20 2015 and it seems to have a iDrive system simillar to yours. A friend of mine got a 2019 F20 and his iDrive system is completely different.How can i change mine to that one?
I have searched a bit on the internet,but i can't find an answer to that. Does it need another radio system? Is it worth it the upgrade? Or it's simply not compatible with my car?
EDIT: Ok, apparently i have what seems to be a NBT / NBT Evo ID 4 system.And has i've read it will probably be needed some handywork to upgrade it.I just might stay with what i have atm.
I looked into it when I had the car and ultimately decided it wasn't worth the money to upgrade.

I don't think you can unless you upgrade the entire head iDrive system to the newer versions.

My HD was clicking, I removed the HU and it looks like water damage! Don’t ask me how as I was shocked to see it .

Do you have the M Performance Carbon rear splitter fitted to the car? It plays havoc with the proximity sensor if your car is fitted with comfort access.
The fix, in this situation, is to disable the sensor in the coding.
Appreciate you’ve probably fixed it now as you commented 6 months ago, but hopefully this may help someone else.

hey man, so my head unit went out so I got it fixed. everything works now except there is absolutely no sound. not even the door/seatbelt chimes. nothing. Do you have any idea what I should do? cause I thought I needed an update but when I type in my VIN it says my car is up to date.
Restore software, then try uploading it again?
I would try and restore and load it in again however they may be entirely unrelated.
the VIN is also under the rear license plate as well. Just saying.

I use both. I use chrome for some stuff but I'm a safari guy. Chrome cooks the battery on a laptop quick!

Which version of iDrive does your car have?
when I enter the page number it tells me that my system is up to date. In the car I see that the oldest possible version is installed? Help
I would reset the head unit and see if that helps.

Hey bro I’ve got a 116d late 2013 and it doesn’t have nav and I can only listen to music with aux but I can connect my phone for calls so if I update the software will I be able to connect music through Bluetooth?
Double check your external device settings in iDrive. It's not very intuitive, when I had my 2012 335is I ran into the same issue and then realized I had to select my phone in external devices. This update won't be able to fix this for you unfortunately. Thank you for supporting my channel!

@@sabby_oyeee2127 It's kinda hard to explain in comments but just search bluetooth audio connection iDrive and you will be able to find a video showing you how. Once I watched one of them I was embarrassed with how simple it was because I had drove the car for a month prior to figuring it out.

Hey, i have an issue with my idrive system rebooting by itself. I have updated to latest firmware. I have a 2014 BMW 328i. Do you know what would cause this problem?
Hey Steve, I have not had this happen in my M4 but this was something I experienced in my 2012 335is from time to time. It seemed to happen when the interior of the car was very hot after sitting outside in the summer months. I used to just reset the unit and it would take care of it for a few weeks.

No I don't believe it will add that function to the CarPlay setup.

If it says you have the latest file then it's the latest file for your particular hardware.

hi I have upgraded my idrive screen to the bigger oem 8.8 inch. I previously had the 6.5 inch. Will the update still work if I use my bmw vin number or do I need the vin number for the new idrive?
