- The desperate and seemingly unstoppable journey of about three thousand migrants from Central America heading towards the United States has finally reached Tijuana, the final stop before the U.S. border. But the goodwill that migrants encountered on their long journey north from people offering rides and meals is now greeted with a chillier reception.
Instead, those arriving in the border city earlier this week were greeted by hundreds of Tijuana residents protesting their presence with angry chants of “Mexico First!”
Protest organizers echoed language used by U.S. President Donald Trump. “Mexico has always opened its doors to Central Americans to legal and organized migration but not to the illegal invasion that’s currently taking place,” said organizer Jesus Eduardo Burgos Gomez.
At one point during the protest, a group of residents tried to rush one of the shelters housing migrants but Mexican police in riot gear held them back.
“There’s too many people,” said protester Josefina Arangure. “We won’t be able to control it. A lot of people are going to stay and get jobs, others are just going to commit crimes.”
Protesters say they’re worried that this new wave of asylum seekers will overwhelm a city that has already dealt with its share of refugees from previous migrant caravans and from Haitians fleeing the devastation of the 2016 earthquake.
While the vast majority of those in the caravan say their ultimate goal is to get to the United States, U.S. border inspectors under the Trump Administration have only been processing about 100 claims a day at the Tijuana crossing. In the meantime, another thousand Central American migrants are expected to arrive in the next few days.
“They’re coming here with an American dream that doesn’t exist,” said Aranguer. “So unfortunately these people are going to stay here.”

I am from El Salvador, we have jobs here, they could have stayed and work, like the millions of people who live here. They could have organized themselves and demand better from our corrupt government instead of making demands from people and countries who owes them nothing.

Actually the Mexican government tried to help them by giving them the permission if they had their papers to know who is entering the county, but they just broke in, then the Mexican people started to collect food, medicines, clothes for them, even they gave them shelter, and they only paid with trash, demanding better food (like pizza? Wtf) leaving brand new clothes all over the ground, and exchanging food for drugs, cigarettes, beer, etc. They even said that the food that Mexican people gave them by free was food for pigs.

The people of Tijuana embrased the Haitians who moved to the city when the US turned them away. They've described Haitians as kind, hard-working people who respect Mexico and its citizens. Part of the reason why they don't like Hondurians is because of their disruptive, disrespectful behavior. Many have complained of caravan members littering, loitering, camping out in public spaces, and being rude and ungrateful to the Mexicans who have tried to help. One Hondurian woman was featured in the Tijuana local news complaining that the free food she received (tortillas and bean paste) was "food for pigs" in her country. Even Donald Trump said that the way caravan members treat Mexican law enforcement is unacceptable. I never thought I'd see the day Mexicans and Trump agreed on ANYTHING.
When the Haitians asked for better food the Mexicans gave it to them why not give better food to the Hondurans who are of the same Indian race ? Besides it seems that all the people on the video who speak english are deportees from America. Now that they have rights in Mexico they want to exercise it like this !

I'm a first generation Mexican American living in San Diego and the border issues is completely out of hand with the caravans at the border. My father lives in Tijuana and owns a resturant in San Diego and what once was a hour wait at the border is now over 4+ hours or even entry denial for US citizens living in Mexico(due to the strain on the border). Its sad that now the media is painting the US and Mexico as racist people who don't want immigrants when thats not the case. The people of Tijuana are extremely kind and welcoming but the caravans have pushed a Ill prepared city into anrachy. All they want is immigrants with the right documents/papers and not people who see a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the immigration crisis.

My dad lives in TJ too and works here. He crosses on his motorcycle so he crosses pretty fast at most 15 minutes. The only other people who don't wait that long in the border line are those with Sentri line pass.

The reason why the people of Mexico are upset is because the people of tj at first accepted them and began to donate food and shelter and a lot of them have refused asylum and many are complaining about food saying the beans they are given is pig food and the want pizza or tacos witch obviously are not cheap in Mexico’s economy they are feeling entitled to get what they want they march around waving their flag of the country they are fleeing and leave trash every where they mock the u.s by standing on the gate and throwing things over ,I have family in these areas affected and they dislike them not cause they are Central Americans but because the attitude the come with and there denial of the help that is being given. Mexico should have known this situation would turn into their problem. Should have stopped them on the southern border.
They tried, but our southern border was not prepared for the flood of people that was the caravan. The government movilized police to the area and when the caravan arrived, they started attacking the police breaking the barriers and running everywhere. It was hard to stop.
Even average citizens tried to stopped them, but they were also met with violence.

Well of course the reception to the migrants are gonna be different in Tijuana then the rest of Mexico. Unlike in Tijuana, the rest of Mexico knew that the caravan was just passing through. The people in Tijuana know that they are gonna stay there.

1) They broke down the gates of Mexico when they were trying to get in. Officials told them they would let them in if they file a line to document the people entering (that failed due to obstruction of the gate)
2) Helicopters from Mexico were being thrown by rocks from the illegals and cops were hurt as well
3) they crossed to several states demanding rides (they would stand right in front of cars inorder to get them) and demanded food
4) they left with garbage waste on the floor wherever they went (they were told multiple times to throw it away in bins)
5) they were PICKY about food (no other country that has come to seek asylum has done that, Haiti, Iraqis etc.)
6) crime has hit ( they rob people in buses more often)
7) They’re not humble or in desperate needs (They’re fat well fed, nice clothes, make up, hair with color, shades, nice phones etc)

What I read here is a list. Fallow by you repeating the mantra uphold in any country regarding a big influx of migrants. What I never read is alternatives or solutions in helping people stay in thier countries, like by saying don´t come here magically solves the reason they are leaving, be that gang violence, war like in Siria or hunger in East Africa. They were being taken in groups of 30 and 40 by Mexican officials, but they decided to take down the fence that separated the borders. All 3 or 4000 of them literally breaking in. There's also another reason. Tijuana is a border city, and hence, the end of the line for the caravan in their voyage to the US-MX border. A lot of the caravan migrants will be denied entry. They will be be stuck in & around Tijuana, adding to the numbers of stranded migrants from previous caravans. Basically, these Tijuana citizens feel they are left holding the bag.

Mexico wanted to do things right, when the caravan was at the Mexican border. The government was gonna be civilized and organized and wanted to give them asylum, working VISAS and most importantly make them LEGAL (since we knew that the great majority wasn't gonna pass). But since this was gonna take some time, they denied this, rioted and knocked over the wall/fence (what you wanna refer to) and entered ILLEGALLY. So they went their merry way. Along the way Mexicans were helping them out at the beginning. Mexicans were aiding them with food, water, medicine and clothes. This is when backlash started. As people started seeing that most of them were throwing away on the streets, stuff that were given to them. There was even this video that went viral of a woman (part of the caravan) that was degrading the food that was given to her. A lot of Mexicans then started seeing that they were ungrateful, rude and littering on the streets. This made lots of Mexicans stop helping them and start being against them. I personally encountered a man who claimed to have been part of the caravan but parted saying that they weren't doing things right. Mexico extended a hand to them to which the majority denied. Now, of course the people in Tijuana are gonna be mad, they'll be staying there. Something to which at least they could've donde LEGALLY but no. Now, there's only two options; either the Mexican government is gonna send them back (most likely forcefully, to which I doubt) OR they're gonna make them legal (again) (maybe give asylum). So people saying that the Mexicans are mean is bullshit, we tried and were denied.

Hondurans broke down our south wall, they entered forcefully and violently. Despite that we mexicans treated them very well (as many mexicans have a big heart), we provided them with free food, free shelter, even free transport at times. We even went as far as offering asylum and the possibility to stay and work in Mexico. And what do you know? Hondurans have been very ungrateful to our efforts and offers. So now mexicans are turning against them, we REALLY hate people who show even small disdain for our country, so we feel betrayed. Tijuana hates them even more because they have the misfortune to receive all the people who are stopped at the Mexico-USA border, and they are not a rich city so they can't absorb them at enough fast rate, this then turns into violence and crime. There are good people among these individuals seeking a better life through hard work, but there are also people within this migrant caravan that are criminals. That's terrifying. I believe doing things through the legal route. My own grandfather came to the US legally and had to wait for years to be approved. Despite losing everything, struggling for years, and almost losing his life more than several times all during the waiting period, he still said that he would do the same thing all over again because he believed in following the law.

Even still, many of the Native Americans of North America never claimed the land as theirs, despite constantly fighting one another over the resources. They thought the Europeans were being stupid for settling down because doing that would severely hinder their access to resources by being stationary.
