    Where did you get the temp probe assembly for the head temp? Still spirits doesn’t know what I am talking about when I say I want to upgrade my still with it.

    I have a original T500 condenser and boiler and like the idea of that boiler your using.. my temperature probe is always on top to monitor the top. My favourite temperature is 4.5 hour on 51c/52c no higher I get 93% without fail. Now I own a 4 floor sight glass bubble plate 3" column with 3"/2" reducers and all parts clamps etc. I got voltage controller and same water regulator with pin dial. I get now 95%/96% definitely worth upgrade if you want to hit that 3%/4% abv No more filtering plates automatically take all the impurities away. Just a tip.

      Unfortunately, since I made this video and moved back to the UK and no longer run my T500.

    That is a nice set up you have there, oh by the way where they Feijoa's on the bench. because it looks similar to mine, and the first crop I just got.

      Thanks, yes they are Feijoas and they were used to make Feijoa liqueur.

      So many of them here we have to find as many uses for them as possible.

      Just made another batch of Feijoa vodka. Did you try this in the end?

      Hi Stuart, do you have still yourself?

    I use this setup also. The main problem is that you have to distille in high tempatures unfortunately.. if you set the grainfather to 'mash' mode the electrical heater will stop, so the distillation will end. More over the 'mash' mode even if maintain the temprature can't elevate the steam to complete the destillation. I also noticed that even in the boil mode the tempature can't raise up to 93 celcious. I cant explain that.

    • @MRPummell
      @MRPummell  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nikolas Lavdas had the same problem. It was an idea, but the mash mode doesn't work for this instance. The bonus of the grainfather is the element is at a higher wattage so you get to the boil faster. I hate that wait. Haha

      How is your setup going? Getting some good results?

      Andy Dunn I don’t own but I’ve had a played with an alembic and there is a fair bit more skill involved to produce good quality drinks. So it completely depends on your ability where you want to start. I would love to have the time in my life to spend making great spirits with an alembic, but I don’t, so the T500 works great for me. Plus I put more time into my beer making. What are you thinking of making?

      Mark Pummell thanks for getting back so fast,. I am retired so my time is my own. Jack Daniels- Tennessee whiskey, Dark Rum , Martinique style, That would be the main spirits. If I could on the same still, Marseille Pastice and maybe gin, Bombay Sapphire.
      This will sound like an odd connection but I ran my own and trained people to make / blend paint. The formulation are a moving feast. If the solvent is new it will cut faster, if the thickening coats are old or have seen moisture, you need to treat them completely differently.
      I am new to Spirits but I am used to complex movable formation
      I had heard that the copper alembic can creat more mellow alcohol and the T500 ..... not sure how he put, some thing like ripped all the taste out
      Appreciate your help

      Andy Dunn yeah, that’s a pretty good description of the difference between the two. I think you should get an Alembic. I feel that you will get what you want from it more than a column still. I sure you will, but do your research and waste the spirit if you get something wrong. All you’ll do is make yourself or whoever you share it with very ill. The temperature you run the still at is so important. Hence why I was trying different ideas in this video. I distilled most of this batch again to get rid of any methanol it might of had in it.

      Mark Pummell thanks again for the advice and heads up, I had thought I would be distilling everything twice on the alembic low temp and slow I’d thought.
      I am wondering about the legal aspect of all this
      Do you know many people with stills, have all the authorities just started to turn a blind eye
      Thanks again
      If I buy it will be an alembic

      @@andydunn5673 Where are you based? I was running my still in New Zealand, where it is legal to make spirits for home consumption.

    You seemed to be interested at the start in reading what boiler temp was during the run but didn't mention it again.....?

    • @peterscandlyn
      @peterscandlyn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark Pummell (Mr Pummell) Fair enough. I kind of think leaving temp open ended at the boiler would be interesting to view during collection, is all.
