    Great video! All video reviews should be like this: clear, concise and straight to the point.

    Yes! Thank you very much for these reviews. I was especially interested in Raise your Goblets for the same reasons you mentioned.
    Once again you've been very helpful :)

    Very useful video reviews. Just the right amount of information and opinion. Not a lot of reviewers talk about how the game made them feel. Keep it up.

    I like your review style. Just talking about what you liked or didn't like. What works for you and what you think might work for others. Even the collection of various games all reviewed in one video.

    Hahaha Karibu Camp is a mix of traditional old Spanish cards games: "Burro" and "Mus"

  • @vespera219
    @vespera219 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Karibou Kamp had the best jokes. I loved all the names for the squeaky meeple.
    I am so heartbroken to hear that Goblets was a disappointment.
    And I enjoy the production of your videos. Going back and watching your earlier videos, which are still just as enjoyable, I really appreciate the work you have put into production and the writing is impeccable as always.
    Thank you for your hard work!

    Great video as always. I really appreciate your frank recommendations as I weigh in my mind if I should add something to my collection or not. A very helpful/realistic approach.
    I'm surprised 7W:Duel did not work for you and your girlfriend. My wife, who is by no means a hardcore gamer really likes it. I particularly enjoy the immediate victory conditions and the brief play time (most of our games fit into 20min, including setup).

      I really like 7 Wonders Duel but I feel bitter about spending $55 on this game plus expansion for two player game with suboptimal component quality (ex. thin and flimsy cards). I could have spent that money easily on a better game with much better design and component quality.

    Total bummer about Raise Your Goblets. I was really looking forward to that one, but the negatives you mentioned were things I wondered about. Tiefe Taschen looks incredible, though. Going to have to find a way to get a hold of that one!

      Personally, I liked the music, it adds a pleasant vibe to a video in which a person talks a lot. Perhaps music in-between "chapters" would be a nice compromise :)

    I was looking forward to see your review of Raise Your Goblets. What if a player peeks into the goblets, won't that ruin the entire game? Shouldn't the goblets have lids?

    really enjoyed the reviews. Although I have to say I didn't like the background music much. It was distracting to me and I didn't think it fit with the sound between each review with the title of the next game (and I do like that sound clip).

      +h w I appreciate the feedback. It was an experiment, as I'm always trying new things to improve my videos. And lots of more professional TH-camrs have music with everything. I'm keen to hear thoughts from others on this.

    • @AshleyBolduc
      @AshleyBolduc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I thought one of my other tabs was playing music, because it didn't seem to fit the video.

    • @denagh823
      @denagh823 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was going to post most of what h w said: the background music for the first two especially seemed out of place with the standard music that you use for the titles. While I liked the background music, suddenly jumping to the title card images was jarring.

    • @MrDanielWaters
      @MrDanielWaters 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think you need the music bed, your style suits the voice-only style, and your editing is so good that you don't need it to hide any cuts. You've got enough going on visually to keep the viewer interested too. Big fan, keep up the great work!

    Tiefa Taschen is indeed wonderful! Light enough to be taught to non-gamers, with deep inter-personal political negotiations. Thanks to Fabian's friendly ways, I obtained a copy at Essen.
    Would love to try Checkpoint Charlie.
    Karibou Camp sounds like a game I'd like to try with folk who enjoy it. I worry about the problem that the Party Gamecast ran into - since all information is open, you can just track what folk are picking up.

    • @actualol
      @actualol  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Behrooz Shahriari There's a KIckstarter game which aims to fix that issue with tracking cards, called Sign. In that, the cards look so similar that at a glance you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

    Isn't there another goblet style game that has come out? I can't remember the name of the game though. I wonder if that one is better.

    • @speeding2fast
      @speeding2fast 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      venrondua There's The Princess Bride: A Battle of Wits based on the movie which is a card based similar game but you can see how many cards everyone has placed in each goblet, but you don't know if they are wine or poison. Each card also has different values so several poison cards could still be less than 1 wie card, and vice-versa.

    • @venrondua
      @venrondua 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      speeding2fast Nope that wasn't it. I remember being surprised because Rise Your Goblets isn't that old and it was the same principle. I'm now second guessing myself though.

    Im a rather new board gamer, but I LOVE 7wonders duel, its exactly the kind of thig icwant to play with 2 players.... and for me its super thematic, just look at that brilliant artwork. Awesome.... and in general i hate euro games, the typical ones i guess, but the alternative wincons and the card drafting mąkę me not look at it as a "trading gold and points" game even tho it deffinitely is one

    Shame that Raise Your Goblets wasn't as good for gameplay as it looks. I'm not sure if it's available anywhere, but I picked up a great little card game off Kickstarter a couple years back with the same theme that was created by a local designer called Chalice. (boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/174344/chalice)
    Each round, all players know which cup cards are in play (be they water, wine, or poison), just not who has what at the start of the round and you play cards to swap, peek, or force people to drink. On your turn you get to choose whether to drink what's in front of you or play a card. Since the goal of the game is to end up with a certain number of cards in your hand (wine gains you cards, poison forces you to discard), you have to decide whether it's worth the risk of drinking to save a card that will either get you closer to winning the game or that you can use later. It has a lot of the bluff and double bluff that Raise Your Goblets has with much less information to track (you just have 1 glass card per player, plus paying attention to how close everyone is to the winning number of cards in their hands).
    The one fault in my eyes is that sometimes it can overstay its welcome a little if people are paying attention and try to pile on the leader as someone gets close to winning, but otherwise I think it does exactly what you were hoping Raise Your Goblet would do.

    Jon, I hope you have a good lawyer. I'm fairly certain Shut Up and Sit Down have a patent on the mid-review turnaround. where you hype up all of a game's good qualities just to not recommend it...
    Additionally, I can imagine you sitting at your desk trying to come up with more names for the squeaky thing. "Chess pawn?... no, too obvious. Tornado on a bowling ball?... no, too long. Caveman club? *writes down caveman club*"
