      To the German Autobahn:
      Even if you are allowed to drive as fast as you can most ppl wont drive more then 130km/h (Richtgeschwindigeit). Some ppl even slower because they can´t or wont drive faster.
      The biker wasn´t wrong in driving faster. The Car is only allowed to overtake if he/she is not endangering someone else by doing it. They did not use the Mirror. If something would had happen though the insurance would give the biker also foult and would reduce the payment. Not that i think someone would survive a Crash whit 200km/h into a car but well....

      While that's certainly true, it's not the entire picture though. It is also very well everyone's responsibility to not actively endanger others, and overtaking via the very left lane with 140 on the Autobahn is EXTREMELY dangerous to both parties and potentially even a 3rd, 4th, etc. You ALAWAYS make sure that nobody is coming down the left lane at lightspeed before entering the lane yourself. Not only is it common sense, but they even tell you that when you make your license there.
      Crashea at 200+ kmh are not fun, even for the car getting rear ended.

      That’s exactly right. When you’re riding at over twice the speed of traffic around you, you have to take 100% responsibility for who might not see you coming. Personally, I think that’s the same problem a lot of times with cars turning left in front of motorcycles. It’s not that they didn’t see you. It’s that they didn’t have any reasonable expectation that you’d be there so quickly.

    • @AntaresSQ01
      @AntaresSQ01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@joej2353 This is true, driving, even if it's a flawed method, relies entirely upon "trust and expectations": I trust that you won't just merge into my lane ,I trust that you'll obey the traffic lights and signs to give me right of way and I expect you wont rear end me when I brake because you're keeping proper following distance and I expect you not to t-bone me because at normal road speeds I have plenty of time to pull out. This is the cornerstone of driving on public roads, when it gets disregarded by either party though... That's when you get accidents. 99% of accidents happen because you "assumed" something and that wasn't the case. Unfortunately this is where your own responsibility for safety comes into play, you have to double check and confirm that your assumptions are indeed the case. That said, I'm strongly of the belief that you CAN speed safely. There is no reason why you'd be more endangered doing 250 kph on motorway over 130 kph AS LONG AS there are no other cars in reasonable proximity. This guy in the video clearly ASSUMED there wouldn't be and got the wrong end of the stick since he didn't confirm his assumptions prior to taking action. I just realised this is the Autobahn so yea, this applies even more, he was right to assume that noone would pull out as it's a rule on the autobahn, the car was fully in the wrong, but he still didn't take responsibility for his actions, and assumed wrong, simply.

    I have been driving motorcycles since I am 14yo, I am 32 now, so I've been more time driving a bike that not doing it. Thanks to being on a motorcyciling family, I've been teached since very young on preventing, analysing and not taking inecessary risks, while always wearing protection gear. Of course, after many years on a bike, I had more than one accident, some of them are pretty much unavodable. Lucky me, my learnings and what i've been teached helped me avoid way more fatal crash accidents. Never overtake a car on a crossroad, keep the speed limits, always use turning indication and mirrors, do not asume that others see you... and many more. It is something that I try to teach to anyone i know, but seeing your videos, I am happy to see the very good work you do in aknoledging the importance of your SMART Rider Principles, I've actually recommended this to many friends after your videos. I really like these videos because it makes me feel justified in the way I drive. I got my bike license a year after I got my driving license and rode my bike almost every day, and I rode very defensively. I don't have a bike anymore, but because of my time on two wheels, I still drive very defensively, and it annoys a lot of my friends and family who ride in the car with me. But whenever I watch these videos, I notice the moments where, if I where driving, I would slow down, or I would cover the break, and my gut reaction always ends up being what Dan recommends. I know that I'm not on a bike anymore, but still, hearing him say that my gut reactions are the right thing to do make me feel confident in my driving, and confident that I will be a safer rider when I finally am able to get back on a proper bike again.

      Not forbidden in Germany per se, but it is forbidden to pass cars at "unclear traffic situations", e.g. passing a car with its indicators on or slowing down at intersections. As an American driver, it feels really weird making a right turn like that in the UK, and takes some getting used to. If I was making the equivalent left turn in the US, I rarely check my left hand mirror for traffic, unless there's a possibility of someone overtaking - not likely on a city street, especially if I haven't seen anyone in my rearview mirror. The first few times I drove in England I found myself checking the right hand mirror for traffic on RH turns, EVEN if a car from the opposite direction had just passed! Made no sense, I know. It got me into a couple of close calls because it took my attention away from oncoming traffic, which was the real threat, so I stopped doing it. The biker in this accident (the 2nd in the video) was totally at fault. Hope he wasn't badly injured.

    For the 2nd video, these 2 riders were entirely at fault.
    Firstly, it's in the UK, so turning right there is absolutely fine.
    The 2 bikes do not have license plates and the riders don't have helmets, this is completely illegal.
    I've seen a few comments saying "the driver probably didn't indicate" which how can we know this?
    It's much more likely, that these 2 "riders", I feel loathsome to call them riders, do not know the rules of the road and were riding around all over the place, therefore, the driver would not have seen or expected them.
    I feel bad for the driver, as he is going to get shafted with having to deal with the damage through his own insurance, because the guy on the bike clearly didn't have any as it's not a road legal bike.
    So now the driver has a black mark on his record because some twat kids went for a joy ride.

    16:36 is germany. to make it simple, there is really no speed limit except when passing major towns on the highway, and the left lane is to go pretty much as fast as you desire. and it is illegal to impede anyone in the left lane. "as soon as you see someone" you have to pull to the right. most people just flash their headlights to get you to move then go about their day.

    • @kriba6755
      @kriba6755 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not true. You always have to drive right sided. And only change to left lane when overtaking. There is the law of proportionality which does not give you the right of speeding 300 and pushing everyone to the right lane. Using flashes to push someone to the right is actually against law and will be sued as coercion.
      You have the right the drive as fast as you want. But the right of not putting someone else in danger, of not coercing someone, of driving proportional stands higher than your right of Speed.

    @DanDanTheFireman... Longtime/old rider here Dan... I just want to say, for all of the motorcycle content on TH-cam, yours is the absolute best.
    I have two life philosophies that I try to rigidly adhere to. One is that it is cheaper to buy the tool and learn to use it and you'll never need the man who has... The second is, A sober and experienced rider, on a well maintained machine, continually practicing the fundamentals of safe riding has a greater chance of coming home alive.
    So many of these channels glorify "Biker life" and inspire motorcycle enthusiasts to go out, buy a bike and ride hard... But hopefully they come across your channel, and it inspires them to constantly practice these basic fundamentals so that when they do ride, they ride and come home.
    I firmly believe that you are saving lives, and making motorcycle enthusiasts into the bikers they dream to be by breaking down these videos and pointing out, the often times nuanced mistakes that even seasoned riders make. Keep up the great work man!
    Ride eternal, shiny and chrome!

    As others have said, the 2nd vid is in the the uk. Driver is making a correct turn. The dirt bikes have no registration plates and they have no helmets - both of which are illegal in the UK. They obviously also have no insurance (illegal) or tax (also illegal) and more than likely have no licence to ride (obviously illegal). He had a crash - good. Just glad he didn't hurt anyone else. I suspect the damage to his brain hasn't affected his IQ much though.

    15:53 is a German Autobahn. Ausfahrt meins „Exit“. Speed limit seems to be unrestricted for this part. You can only overtake on the left hand side. Lane changes must be indicated and carried out in such a way that traffic is not endangered. Recommendation of German authorities is a maximum speed of 130 km/h on the Autobahn. If you are involved in an accident and your speed was above 130 km/h there is a joint liability. In that case you have to prove that the accident would have also happened while traveling at slower speeds (

      Well, at first: You're right, it is Germany, it is on the Autobahn.
      Rest of it is wrong though, the rules in Germany state that the driver in the faster lane does have priority, and that if you want to merge into the fast lane you have to check for oncoming traffic.
      That said, the rules also state that you are only supposed to go faster than 130 kph if there is enough space for it, and it therefore is safe to do so. If this would have been a crash it seems likely that both would have found guilty of violating german traffic rules.
      Personally it seems not adequate to go that fast on a two-lane part, especially with (comparable) very slow drivers on the same road.

    • @tolga1cool
      @tolga1cool 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The car driver is definitely at fault here. You always have to yield when merging into another lane. The first thing you get told in driving school when going on the Autobahn is that there is always someone going much, much faster on the left lane and you're only allowed to overtake if it's 100% safe to do so.
      The riders reaction on the other hand was unacceptable too, so there is that.
