Totally agree with you about having a venue, but I grew up in the 80's in Adelaide and Holden v Ford was everywhere on the streets - Friday, Saturday nights - it is a cultural thing.
Most towns have a speedway, I always thought that it should have a concrete pad in the centre for hoons to do burnouts in, nothing to crash into there either
I think it’s a combination of things. Hooning, burnouts, highway runs, yeah, these things don’t help, and yeah, they’re fun, but with the advent of social media, increased policing, increased government surveillance, the governments insatiable need for tax payers money, it’s become all too risky, and not only that, with the state of mainstream media, it’s easy for them to paint a narrative of the entire car scene, especially when people want their 15 minutes of fame. I get thumbs up from kids and adults almost everyday, and I act responsibly when I’m behind the wheel, but it’s gotten to such an extent that just having a nice car is seen as “lesser than” from my experience anyway. Not only that, there seems to be an increasing sentiment, mainly perpetuated by the media that somehow being into cars makes you a minority, and that everyone is past the days of big engines, and noise and smoke, not true. Everyone that I’ve seen in the car community tends to have an appreciation for everything. It used to be very tribalistic, ford vs Holden, Nissan vs Toyota, petrol vs diesel, not so much anymore. There’s good natured piss taking, but it seems to have gotten to a point where we all look past the BS and realise that we’re all apart of the same culture. So in summing up, nah, burnouts and hooning aren’t ruining the car scene at all, because 99% of the time when people do it, it’s under controlled conditions, and in secluded areas, and the police I feel understand that, and I think we’ve all come to the realisation that yeah, if we see someone doing something stupid at a meet, we all tend to call them out on it. Realistically like I said previously, a lot of this is specifically drummed up by the media, by the government, and some high level ranking police officials to have a boogeyman to go after, and excuse to go after taxpayers money under the guise of calling it “protecting the community” same thing as what they do with speed cameras, phone cameras, defects, the list goes on.
its true the media loves to paint the bad narrative about us.. n we are an easy target for cops to make their quota it seems.. i do hope the good old days return at some point but for now it seems like we are all just holding on to what it all used to be. .
Can’t go against the grain and expect to not be targeted. Don’t break the rules, don’t have an issue..go to a track go to you’re heart’s content. And no, this isn’t ruining the car scene for us enthusiasts, in fact, it’s brought to light the difference between a hoon and an enthusiast especially when meets and anyone attending usually gives number plates to the local cops. Which weeds out the bad eggs from the get go. Law enforcement seems to be cracking down on hoons and less on modified vehicles and meets especially when registered and people are respectful and safe. and we usually have the respect of the local cops, dropping in expressing their joy for some of the builds. Moral of the story. Don’t be a fuckwit.
@@RossReviewsau lol , cops have a quota but if youre being a farken idiot on the roads and get caught be good about it because you played the game and lost . far to many times i have pulled over guys driving like its a race track only for them . we need to use the roads correctly because moms ,dads ,brothers ,sisters ,cousins ,wives , husband and children also use them . the problem is , we see these drivers 20x a day and after a while we start to treat them all the same ( consider all drivers as fwits until they show prove otherwise ) anyway thats my view as a car modifier and regular road user
when i go out doing skids i dont film it, i don't tell anyone where im going or what im going to do, i go to very secluded places i know im not going to get caught at and i go at times i also know that no one is going to be around! there's that good old saying "if no ones around to see it did it really happen" and to be very honest i keep to that saying because i know there's never going to be a chance i will ever end up in trouble for it, as long as you are a safe driver when you are seen driving than no one will ever be none the wiser because what people don't know won't hurt them!
Always tell someone where you’re going just in case, when pushing your car something unpredictable can happen and last thing you want is nobody looking for you
Me and my partner are in our forties now and we used to be part of that problem lol now we still enjoy the occasional hoon at random times .we laugh and chuckle when a young group doing silly things as we realuse hey its a part of life
I got pulled up for going to quick round corners... in a mx5. I ask the cops where can i legally go in my area to get it out of my system and he had no idea and told me to "just drive the car, you shouldnt need to get it out of you system, just drive the car"... wtf he think i was doing? Walking the dog. Cops in aust are dumber than the us 🤦♂️
@@brettcoles5262 yeah except theres hardly any tracks anymore and most of them require you to spend thousands on making your car 'approved' and renting the track. unless you have a spare 5 grand laying around which most people don't, you cant
That's been the argument for decades. It never worked. People go to the legal street drags and then go to illegal street drags later that night. You'll never stop it.
Yep grew up in the 80’s, it was a great time! It’s a culture which will always exist, if they can get a good spot to do their thing, why not👍🏼 As for ol mate losing his licence, car impounded and fined, that’s absolutely bs and sucks!!
100% agree. Sort them out old school if they lack common sense. I know at our HSVNC meets we don't tolerate hooning. Brings too much attention to the club and the boys in blue. There is a time a place for everything. Look forward to seeing you on our peter brock memorial run later in the month
There's a time and place for hooning, but I can't stand seeing people doing burnouts or reckless driving in traffic. It holds everyone up and, more importantly, puts lives at risk. If you're into that, take it somewhere safer and away from others.
That's it go the middle of no where or go legit and pay for track/pad time... and especially don't video it and if you do... keep it off social media 👌
@@RossHollandAU Having to pay for track/pad time is the problem imo. The governments should see a problem with hooning and offer a solution by building more tracks and hang out spots for people to use.
@@RossHollandAU you need to have a track in the first place where i live the nearest track is 4 hours away. there is an abandoned industrial estate about 20 mins from town no homes for 3-4 km's had a nice big cul-de-sac and because it never got developed its nothing but dirt on all sides only thing is a power pole but its a good 5m away form the cul-de-sac you'd have to be a complete tool to hit it (no one has that i know of) but the cops found out and started patrolling there and suddenly there was a whole bunch of people doing burnouts back in town again who would have thunk it.
You made a good point there, laws against cars and driving are just way too harsh and yet you could do something actually bad and you’ll just get a slap on the wrist.
Yeah look at the car theft in north qld, kids get bail and are in another stolen car the next day. Meanwhile do 20kmh over the speed limit, better watch out!
Touchy topic for sure. There is certainly a time and place for it, get that right, I don’t see much of an issue. Well done for starting the discussion.
I'm 58 and in the US, we damn sure did exactly the same thing. Just not in stupid places. Everyone knew the road at the edge of town that had the 1/4 mile marked off. Even at my age I have been known to hoon a little bit in my VF SS!
It really annoys me how they are allowed to do it if they have exotic cars even if it's in a dense area, but in an industrial estate at night it's bad, everyone who's at an industrial estate at night is most likely here for that and therefore they consent and acknowledge the potential dangers, trucks driving constantly on that road 100% do more damage to the road than young adults in their $500 falcons
Honestly in my opinion, it's the introduction of TH-cam and social media outlets that has drawn the attention to hooning! Once upon a time only the people whom were there knew it was happening, where now you do a skid and thanks to CCTV, Social media and Smart Phones the entire world knows with in 5 minutes and cops are at your door the next day. Never used to happen back in the day.
I totally agree. I just moved into a new house on some acreage. The neighbours dont love me and my loud cars but i am in my 40s so they got nothing to worry about. What they do keep bringing up is the teens up the street, bunch of car guys, dirt bikes etc. Sometimes loud but never overly loud, as loud as a ride on mower. Which we all have. They sometimes ride the pee wee up the street. Not a main road eirher its a cul de sac and they are at the top dead end. So the risks are minimal. My group of neighbour's were chatting about it in the street the other day and i told em to let them have their fun they are not hurting anyone. I said as kids we all did shit like that. They are not doing burn outs or ripping up your lawns....they are just riding up the street a bit and back. No harm in that. They all had a grumble and moan but eventually agreed to leave em alone. Most of my neighbours are 60+. They are good kids just going through that phase of they can finally afford some toys and they are respectful about it. No burnouts, no crazy stuff. A friend might give their new car a boot up the road but there are no kids around here they all have grown up and moved out. So there is little risk at all. No traffic and they never go overboard with the speed. Just a fast take off from time to time. Kids are going to be kids. If they are not being complete dickheads then let em have some fun. Hoon laws crippled the car scene here and it has never recovered. There is no need for such heavy handed intervention.
It's the same here I nz..the nzpolice have all the funding and time to book and convict hoons yet they're useless and have low rates against actual crimes.
Another thing you forgot to mention is why people do skids for the majority it’s for fun but a good portion of the people doing it is because of stress and mental health sometimes it’s the only way to let it out with out killings themselves but the media struggle to realise that the people behind the wheel are also normal people going through tuff times that might not have the things they need to vent but they have a car and an open road that makes them feels the best afterwards better then any therapy
I bet you they will put a ban on car meets and then say "well ,,,you still have sumernats" . "What's there to be mad about?" I think this video is very great and accurate. 💯
Preach this 100% On the other hand theres nothing wrong with having the rev off lane mad loved it, but for the burnouts the meet was on for 3 hours surly people can hold the urge and safely go out for drive later and do burnouts, if you get caught its on you etc, 3 hours is not a lot of time to put a good attention on the car sence, so we can have more positive attention with the public and police, its not hard & real car enthusiasts get put in the same bag theres a massive difference
@@RossReviewsau They have started erecting these yellow speed cameras everywhere here in Queensland, the cameras are being monitored 24 hours by another hidden camera on the other side of the road, to catch the face of the vandals.
7:50 I can definitely back that one up, i am courthouse security. There was 2 types that went to supreme court, those who speed and do burnouts, then there was p*dos. The 2 that were speeding went behind bars, granted 1 was doing 177 in a 50 zone so that was dumb, but the 2 p*dos walked free with the look of " there is nothing you can do about it ".
Yup, phones and hoons are Australian enemy number 1, all the way at the bottom of the list under power to weight ratio, mods, basic road rules and everything else young people do is murder and SA
Im in my 40s. Still love cars but definitely time and place. I grew up in a rural town, only had 1 cop there, he was a good bloke, when we were on our Ps he told me and my mates he doesnt care if we do burnouts, but do it out the road were theres no houses and traffic,we were told if we do it in town were toast, we follwed his rule, we never got defected, the good old days. We respected each other which helped. Im older now with kids but still feel the same way, go out the road or to an industrial estate and i dont care, but do it in residential areas and youll get whats coming.
Drink driving is punished less than hooning in australia. Low level is 24hr ban 2x befote court and high is 24hr ban until court and if they revoke ur lisence ur allowed to apply for an interlock and drive again all paid for by ur tax :) u hoon its inpound. Instant loss of lisence and court and u cant just apply for ur lisence back.
@_wallnutz_ alot of factors but as mechanic iv seen so many interlocks for repeat offenders. Also, Sister lost her lisence from demerits and didn't know caught driving cop could of impounded but instead just gave court date made us collect car 1 year suspension for an accident no ability to get an extodinary lisence. Which IMO has nothing on even low range drink driving.
There is a time and a place and I think policing needs to be on board with that, the penalty for doing a burnout in a dead industrial area should not be the same as the penalty for doing a burnout in the middle of school pickup. You know fair enough it leaves marks whatever hand out a fine that can be money used to clean it up but it shouldn't affect your license you shouldn't lose your car you put yourself in a little bit of danger and that's it. Same deal with street racing, if you're doing a freeway pull at 2am with nobody on the road who are you hurting.. No victim no crime
I had to take a cop mate to work and back for a week. Picked him up one night and did a full cut down this main road, well over (xxx) kmh - had that barra absolutely screaming, old mate still in uniform in the passengers seat huge smile and laugh, said "oh Fk yeah brother that reminds me of the days we was young and had this valiant with a slant 265 in it, that thing was bloody scary fast" i was glad to bring back some good memories for them.
Awesome vlog.. i think hoons is ruining car events and the car scene, But i think Defects is what really hurt the car scene the most, It killed off the SexSpec era big time.. For me i feel like once you cop a defect on your pride and joy it's pretty much targeted after that and it's just not worth getting pulled over and copping shit.
In my younger days I will admit I used to do stupid things in cars that I will never do again. There is a time and place for everything I think there needs to be more places where people who are into this sort of thing in a controlled Environment. Melton is a place where heaps of people do that sort if stuff always has been. As a Car Enthusiast myself and part of a car club I couldn't condone this sort of stuff because our events are family friendly however if I was going to a meet up on the middle of the night away from the public eye then I would most likely expect this sort of stuff. While I love a good burnout now and again I think it should be done were it doesn't pose a Danger to anyone or property.
I am 61 and astonished at the people, particularly older ones, that have no recollection of their youth. I can recall cops back in day that were totally tolerant of these activities if people used the appropriate setting and respected the police. It's ironic that these days that courts will sentence someone for vehicular activities and a paedophile is given a lesser sentence. In all honesty, some cops have a crap attitude, the power of lockdown has not disappeared. Short story back in the eighties, had a contact with the police and went out on a Saturday night. We got into police chase with a car of young people of the day, they probably were doing 100mph as they gapped us after we came upon them doing a skid etc. . Eventually they got found hiding in a construction site. Cop gets out and says "you didn't have to run away from us like that, just wanted a word" The driver said he was sorry and astonishingly for the day, was a sober driver. Anyway that was about it, I asked the cop about it, and he said you didn't write tickets, and they knew him and vis versa, all good. At the end of his shift his boss arrives and asks about the nights events and also asks, "you didn't write ant tickets did you?" apparently that was a no, no. Another story was the senior cop of a small town that told everyone that they had to race up and down the main street, so he could keep an eye on them. Apparently sometimes a VN Commodore in police livery was seen racing... Policing methods need changing, but I don't know how many cops would be keen. One told me recently many of them wished they could go back to the old school policing. Bloody nanny state.
What pisses me off they have these "hooning" laws but yet every god damn morning in every damn major city in peak hour traffic on every highway people tailgate not even 2 cars length from the car in front doing 100kph .... That right there is careless/reckless and dangerous driving yet not a single thing is done about ..... the Hypocrisy is unbelievable
Generally in car Meets, people go there to check out other cars and say hello . Sometimes they go for Cruise after Car Meets. " Hoons " is / are a different ball game.
Hooning and burnouts are undeniably the most distinct part of aussie car culture. Its what we are known world wide for..... its the one thing we do that no one else did, like japan with drifting or the u.s with paved speedway. Its who we are and we should be proud. But we shouldnt be stupid.
I 110% believe every word u said in that it’s so true how the punish people for have a bit of fun with no one around in a quiet place but don’t care that much about someone like that lady
Thinking about recent case in Perth where a driver killed himself overtaking oversize vehicle, and some of his mates decided to honour him by doing burnouts on the road. One had 11-month old kid in the car at the time.
I don’t think a tesla can do a burn out without blowing up lol with my commodore I choose not to do all those hoon things tires are expensive n all that lol great content Ross
It's the same stuff us older heads did in our younger years too, we just didn't have the internet, phones in our pockets and feel the need to record and show the world. The cycle repeats itself as the petrol heads have kids and the younger generations get into cars, they just do the same their parents did, just with faster, newer cars, and posting it for the internet to see.
@@RossReviewsau Yep and it'll continue even with electric vehicles, especially when they're coming out with 1000HP like the Tesla Plaid, doesn't matter if its a 80 horsepower Datsun or 800 horsepower blown V8, kids will skid, it is apart of our culture, the simpletons simply don't understand that stompin the loud pedal is a form of release, medication, therapy.
"take it to the track" which track? in WA there is a single racetrack that regular people can drive on (there used to be the RAC one, but it is closed now), which is Barbagello raceway, which hosts a handful of public track days per year, unless you join the motor club, which is annual membership and costs additional money to get your car certified and to their requirements. then you have to pay to rent the track for private testing. telling people to take it to the track in today's economy is ridiculous, unless you want to do it once every 6 months.
I have researched motorsport Australia has a club registration and all car enthusiasts should register there own club burnouts drifting what ever they want then motorsport Australia will help support more venues to go to but we all need to be in registered club Also is it time for a motorsport political party
Unfortunately they are stupid expensive, most clubs require a Motorsport Australia license which is a min of $160, club membership is gonna be over $100 a year, plus to go to any track event from what I've seen it's over $200 for a half day and over $500 for a full day, would be nice if the cops were really against street racing but not against car culture they would make a taskforce for p platers and people without a lot of money to have it subsided but unfortunately Australia is peak clown atm
No one use to have phones and all radio communications use to be available. No one actually really cared only if someone crashed. There never use to be anyone on the road at 3am and there use to be roads with no speed limits and everyone was high on methamphetamine weed and alcohol back then.
I’m a bit like Ross, I’ve had/have red and blue performance cars, as long as it is AusDM I’m happy. Unfortunately partly because of hoons in Falcons and Holdens both these brands became unpopular with common folk, that reason and other factors mean my grand kinds won’t know what it’s like to own a new Falc or Commy. I also don’t like seeing an AusDM wrapped around a pole or tree, because the owner’s abilities don’t match the car and it’s one less beauty on the road. I agree we are a nanny state but unfortunately they police to the lowest common denominator/muppet. I also get cheesed off that a car thief that steals our pride and joy, gets less heat than those who let rip in a gender reveal…
what i find is the problem is that most the people that that do it recklessly in traffic, on highways etc are they act like gangsters and record everything for cloud and yes social media is the main reason hooning is such a harsh punishment now bc back when phones weren’t around the only people that knew were the ones that were there. with everything being recorded and posted so many more people see it and that’s when news outlets get ahold of it and spin it how they want to make car enthusiasts the bad guys
I love a good skid here and there it’s fun as. But I reckon there’s a time and place for it. Do it in the industrial estate or the backroads. Don’t do it near residential areas and keep it away from younger kids. But it will always be part of our culture, the way we do it will just change. Our car industry is gone but our culture will hopefully stay around for a long time
@@RossReviewsau that’s the part that’s lacking. People have lost the commonsense part of it. It’s one thing to love a cheeky skid, but when you have the stupid “takeover” type things going on. Cooked.
there's a time and a place for hooning if someone ran into my car i'd be pretty dark about it or if i suspect there'll be cops at a meet for the purpose of stickering cars then i'm not going
I absolutely agree I genuinely won’t bring my F6 to night time meets for that reason sadly.. but I still think it’s right place right time.. the police I think are a little over stepping rather than just the bad egg
No, government spending and unaffordable tax increases is killing Australia. Australia is becoming unaffordable. Not hoons Government is a trillion times more destructive to Australia than hooning could ever be.
wow ross geez very well said and you were thinking clearly and you are not the bad guy 😆 It blows my mind how much a tiny burnout makes you the biggest criminal ending up with no license no car and fines to pay yet the real criminals get slaps on the wrist compared to a "hoon"....there's a difference between driving dangerously or going to a industrial area out the middle of no where.......... just remember when you start a car you have loaded a deadly weapon be safe
Ive always wanted a massive plot of land and to have a track where people can do whatever they want 24/7. No buildings on it just a track out away from where people live
I’ve been driving tuff street and racing historic cars for 30+years the car seen has changed to many with disrespecting what it’s all about cheers Vz Glenn 🏎👌
In the early to late 90s the cops were well aware of the Dandenong drags. The reason they cracked down on it was dickeads throwing empty stubbies at the cops.
It's the police with nothing else to do as you don't see the police being as harsh overseas & the AUS media & politicians portraying anything to do with fun driving as hooning🤦‼️
@RossReviewsau Those Nimwit squads or whatever there called don't help either as they were setup 25 years ago when what looked like 100's of cars used to just follow each other from Maccas & pull up to Anketel Road in Wangara & they would all reverse around or up the large curbs & race what was apparently a 1/4 mile. I remember 7 cop cars in a "V" formation come blaring down the street & try to stop side ways in a roadblock, it was in the papers the next morning as the press was there taking pics & video as it was the first time they tried to officially shut down a "Hoon" meet, now they were wild times😂❗️
I remember going to skid meets/industrial drags ect and if people were caught filming and putting it anywhere they’d get a flogging now everyone wants it for social media and it’s just become way to easy for things to be shut down
@@RossReviewsau exactly and half the kids that go out these days don’t have the respect to at least blur plates ect it’s making it to easy for the government to ruin it.
If there were burnout pads built (a decent amount that dosnt cost a arm and a leg) there wouldn’t be as much skid meets I don’t think it would stop them all together because just the thrill of doing it on the streets then running from cops but would definitely slow it down this is something that’s been talked about for ages but the government don’t wanna support it
I've got a pretty controversial opinion for people on this channel, but I believe hooning on the street (burnouts, street racing, etc) is ruining the car scene as it puts genuine enthusiasts and hoons in the same category... I can kind of forgive if somebody was to do a burnout in the middle of nowhere away from people, but still... The solution is to have more venues to be able to do this stuff, but given the current state of society, the number of these motorsport venues is dwidling... Anyways, that's my opinion, and probably a controversial one at that lol
@@wardy1337 What I mean is, somewhere like an industrial estate, back road etc, as it isn't too likely that other road users will be there, but there still is a risk since it's a public road... Also, nobody likes hearing roaring engines in the middle of the night when you have work the next day...
@@wardy1337 I don't mind hearing it in the distance either, but I would get a little annoyed if it's on a weeknight and going on for hours at a time nearby... If it's just one skid on a weekend, oh well...
100% agree, i’ve gotta put my opinion in as a red p plater, that drives a turbo, there is actually a time and a place, most p platers ruin it for us (why i can’t “legally” drive my car. now im no where near a good boy driving on the road 🤣 but there’s a time and a place. when i go do skids i don’t do it on main roads, i go to the indusso, i rarely post online (anymore), i don’t try race people in the middle of town ect, and it’s helped me lay fairley low, my cars pretty low and going in for a tune so gonna be pretty mental and i haven’t really had any problems with cop. all the old heads try act like they didn’t do the same thing and that’s what annoys me as yes yous did and yous did it blatantly everywhere atleast im going to an indusso area
People who do burn outs and drive fast on surface streets and what not are part of the problem. If you want to get it out of your system, do a drag strip, race track or airfield. Heck, even the middle of nowhere.
I wish cops would leave the hooning in the indusso area. Honestly. It’s a good playground for doing skids and drags like japans mountain drifting but for Australia
Ive stopped going out to car meets or even taking my Falcon out for a late night blast through the mountains out behind Brisbane, because of the dickhead element that goes there and subsequent po-po presence and I don't to be caught up in a surprise defect station and getting done for the mods done to my car. I'm actually thinking about selling it as I've only driven it 3 or 4 times over the past two years and only clocking up less than 500 or 600 klms due to the above reason, and I dont want my car to become a track day only car that's trailered there because I built it to enjoy driving those fun roads late at night and not be garage queen trailered everywhere
@RossReviewsau yeah I took her out to All Ford Day at Willowbank and to work a couple of times, but every time I do that, it gets a bit worrisome as I drive past a couple of the major cop shops for traffic branch as well as the Oxley Police Academy (been caught there a few of times for defects😂) on my journey to n fro work
Go for day runs then, no chance of dickheads ,when I lived up there I used to do the MT glorious and nebo run on a Saturday or Sunday never had a an issue with cops up there, also mt tambourine and surrounding is a nice drive on a weekend. I haven't done night meets or cruises in over 10 yrs for the same reasons. I just go on weekend runs on my own now ,or go out to heathcote or Calder park for the drags. Need to repair some stuff and upgrade the diff mount in my fg xrt6 before I can run it again Broke the diff mount off the subframe last time out 🤦♂️ It's been 11.94 last September but blew the engine next pass 🤦♂️ Had the car 14 months and already broken it twice ,not having much luck with it lol But rebuilt engine and rear end, 358kw atw and 775nms through a tr6060 and it's pretty good now 👌 Just gotta flush the clutch fluid and rebleed it ,cap seal failed and moisture got in n contaminated the fluid 🙄 apparently common problem so have a nice new aluminium reservoir to fix it once n for all, then do the ims twin mount upgrade for the diff And hopefully I can start doing track days again, wanna give Phillip island a crack and maybe Sandown, daily driven too 👌 Probably not smart lol But love it 👌
As an Aussie car enthusiasts and mechanic, I find that skids, drifting and racing have a time and a place. If you want to have fun visit you local strip, track or pad but keep it off the road, ruins meets and makes you look like a wanker in my opinion
Right place right time. Day in the middle of a public road, probably not. At 11pm at night in the backroads with no traffic sure. Just use common sense, and I get the fact that there are people who have concerns regarding speeding and burnouts and other questionable driving activities, they are dangerous don't get me wrong. But out in a country road at 1am with no traffic, the only people that are gonna to possibly die is me or the other guy I'm racing. And the fact is we are both adults and can make that decision. But anytime where what you are doing may put other people in harms way, just slow down and think if I screw this up could I hurt them, and if the answer is yes, its probably the wrong place or the wrong time.
"Destroying the car scene, forgetting that Xr6s, Au's, VX's, etc planting the foot and spinning wheels is the majority of the car scene in Australia. People who go to official meets will say hoons are destroying the car scene but hoons are more prevelant than the wankers saying cars are for looking at not driving hard. Obviously there are some who do dumb shit that does endanger people but theres always people doing dumb shit.
Remember when the car scene required people to be part of forums? Ahhh those were the great time. Facebook events were great too but instagram people organising events and uploading their videos is put everything into a negative spin.
It’s a combo of things. And yes Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons have been ruined just because of association by all of this type of behaviour. Yes it’s fun but trying to own one of these that’s been lightly modified and you just want to mind your business driving your car you’ll still get hassled by cops even if your doing thing wrong. That’s why I no longer drive mine as a daily anymore 😢.

Was only 2k over too 🙄 To be fair vicpol has been severely understaffed since 2015 ,I rarely see a cop car ,maybe seen 20 in 8 yrs. And currently they're not booking anyone due to the government not giving them are sorely needed well overdue pay rise so they're protesting by not fining anyone lol
@@5lcalais1 yeah in Adelaide here they can be so bad and pretty much will pull you over for no reason and just because you’ve got a Holden or Ford. It’s happened to plenty of family and friends and they’re just normal people who just go about on their normal daily commutes. One was accused of doing wheel spins and burning rubber as he exited the petrol station but yet it was a rainy day and he just spent 2k the day prior on new wheels and tires, what a joke. Me my daily right now is a Honda with a K24 and I’m not gonna lie I’ve done a few mods and I beat on it a fair amount of the time but yet my car doesn’t get a second look.
Dont know how hard it is to simply Pop the Hood and let people see what setup U got...It's okay to leave the Meet and give a small burnout, but the moment U put other people in danger is when I draw the line. Also good point on comparing one skid to a scumbag who scammed millions for her shitty Holiday.

And now they have got “seatbelt cameras.”
when i go out doing skids i dont film it, i don't tell anyone where im going or what im going to do, i go to very secluded places i know im not going to get caught at and i go at times i also know that no one is going to be around! there's that good old saying "if no ones around to see it did it really happen" and to be very honest i keep to that saying because i know there's never going to be a chance i will ever end up in trouble for it, as long as you are a safe driver when you are seen driving than no one will ever be none the wiser because what people don't know won't hurt them!
Agreed that’s the best practice
Always tell someone where you’re going just in case, when pushing your car something unpredictable can happen and last thing you want is nobody looking for you

Seriously you're a fookn legend mate.

Never used to happen back in the day.
its def a thing the cops are using now.. its sad we are loosing are culture
Glad you stood up for reason!
It's the same here I nz..the nzpolice have all the funding and time to book and convict hoons yet they're useless and have low rates against actual crimes.

You are 100% correct especially about the inconsistency in the law.

Drink driving is 1000x worse
Not really. You get hammered above .15

"take it to the track"
which track? in WA there is a single racetrack that regular people can drive on (there used to be the RAC one, but it is closed now), which is Barbagello raceway, which hosts a handful of public track days per year, unless you join the motor club, which is annual membership and costs additional money to get your car certified and to their requirements. then you have to pay to rent the track for private testing. telling people to take it to the track in today's economy is ridiculous, unless you want to do it once every 6 months.

In the early to late 90s the cops were well aware of the Dandenong drags. The reason they cracked down on it was dickeads throwing empty stubbies at the cops.
Clean up after your self n be respectful of the time n place should be no worries

It's the police with nothing else to do as you don't see the police being as harsh overseas & the AUS media & politicians portraying anything to do with fun driving as hooning🤦‼️
The media plays a massive part
Agree 100%.
🤝
Black rims and shitty rear roof spoilers are destroying the car scene
Yeah man i agree its hypocritical as to talk down burnouts but are fine drifting threw cities
Spot on
I remember going to skid meets/industrial drags ect and if people were caught filming and putting it anywhere they’d get a flogging now everyone wants it for social media and it’s just become way to easy for things to be shut down
There is meant to be a level of confidence when filming illegal activities.. but now it’s every person with a phone out
@@RossReviewsau exactly and half the kids that go out these days don’t have the respect to at least blur plates ect it’s making it to easy for the government to ruin it.
If there were burnout pads built (a decent amount that dosnt cost a arm and a leg) there wouldn’t be as much skid meets I don’t think it would stop them all together because just the thrill of doing it on the streets then running from cops but would definitely slow it down this is something that’s been talked about for ages but the government don’t wanna support it
Agreed can’t stop it all but would help
I've got a pretty controversial opinion for people on this channel, but I believe hooning on the street (burnouts, street racing, etc) is ruining the car scene as it puts genuine enthusiasts and hoons in the same category... I can kind of forgive if somebody was to do a burnout in the middle of nowhere away from people, but still...
The solution is to have more venues to be able to do this stuff, but given the current state of society, the number of these motorsport venues is dwidling...
Anyways, that's my opinion, and probably a controversial one at that lol
you can "kind of" forgive if somebody does a burnout in the middle of nowhere away from people? cheers mate haha
@@wardy1337 What I mean is, somewhere like an industrial estate, back road etc, as it isn't too likely that other road users will be there, but there still is a risk since it's a public road... Also, nobody likes hearing roaring engines in the middle of the night when you have work the next day...
@@MartinJones123 me and most of the people i know, if we hear something off in the distance we smile at night lol
You get it 🤝
People who do burn outs and drive fast on surface streets and what not are part of the problem. If you want to get it out of your system, do a drag strip, race track or airfield. Heck, even the middle of nowhere.
I wish cops would leave the hooning in the indusso area. Honestly. It’s a good playground for doing skids and drags like japans mountain drifting but for Australia
There is no issue with me about it so long as it is safe to do it.👌
Right place n time ✅
Ive stopped going out to car meets or even taking my Falcon out for a late night blast through the mountains out behind Brisbane, because of the dickhead element that goes there and subsequent po-po presence and I don't to be caught up in a surprise defect station and getting done for the mods done to my car.
Just have to be wise on what meets you go to If you want to avoid that kind of stuff
Need to repair some stuff and upgrade the diff mount in my fg xrt6 before I can run it again
Broke the diff mount off the subframe last time out 🤦♂️
It's been 11.94 last September but blew the engine next pass 🤦♂️
Had the car 14 months and already broken it twice ,not having much luck with it lol
But rebuilt engine and rear end, 358kw atw and 775nms through a tr6060 and it's pretty good now 👌
Just gotta flush the clutch fluid and rebleed it ,cap seal failed and moisture got in n contaminated the fluid 🙄 apparently common problem so have a nice new aluminium reservoir to fix it once n for all, then do the ims twin mount upgrade for the diff
And hopefully I can start doing track days again, wanna give Phillip island a crack and maybe Sandown, daily driven too 👌
Probably not smart lol But love it 👌
As an Aussie car enthusiasts and mechanic, I find that skids, drifting and racing have a time and a place. If you want to have fun visit you local strip, track or pad but keep it off the road, ruins meets and makes you look like a wanker in my opinion
i think just right place right time but each their own
It's Aussie culture, nothing wrong with it as long as no one gets hurt and this is coming from an African who has never set foot in Australia
You get it brother 🤘
need to start a gofundme for a amendment in parliament for the culture.
I agree, you gotta be responsible when you’re out there.
Who remembers ' The Moll Factory ' ?
Lot of Karen’s online tbf but I agree keep it respectful unless it’s allowed in the right place & time
dont think i have ever agreed more
Good to hear
It’s a combo of things. And yes Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons have been ruined just because of association by all of this type of behaviour. Yes it’s fun but trying to own one of these that’s been lightly modified and you just want to mind your business driving your car you’ll still get hassled by cops even if your doing thing wrong. That’s why I no longer drive mine as a daily anymore 😢.
Never have a problem driving my fg xr6t around, it's loud and fast and nothing lol
I daily drive it, however I've made sure everything I did to it is 100% legal , bov plumbed back in, no exposed pod filter, exhaust is under the required 93 db (just 😂) and I don't drive like a dickhead everywhere every 2nd like the younger ones do lol
I was no different at their age lol my driving record is like 7 pages long from the early 2000s 😂
Got my first speeding ticket since 2012 last yr ,records been clean for 12 yrs beyond that.
Was only 2k over too 🙄
To be fair vicpol has been severely understaffed since 2015 ,I rarely see a cop car ,maybe seen 20 in 8 yrs.
Fair point
💯
Dont know how hard it is to simply Pop the Hood and let people see what setup U got...It's okay to leave the Meet and give a small burnout, but the moment U put other people in danger is when I draw the line. Also good point on comparing one skid to a scumbag who scammed millions for her shitty Holiday.
She should have got the book yet old mate gets more of a punishment for doing a cheeky gender reveal skid
@@RossReviewsau It is really fucked up, it's as if being a Car Fan is a Crime against Humanity. Those dumbarses really need to set their priorities straight, not their wallets.
