This depends heavily on the Era. In most of the Heisei and Millennium era movies he actively feeds on the radiation from humanity's Nuclear power plants and he snacks on the occasional nuclear submarine. Sometimes we nuke him too just to give him a DPS buff.
In Shin Gojira he folds biological matter into his genetic structure I think? And absorbs ambient radiation from the air. It's worth noting in every movie he emits extraordinarily lethal amounts of radiation not just from the heat breath but just existing, like him standing around makes a place irradiated.

Quick correction re: seeing death in your eye jelly. I misspoke a bit here. You're eye jelly is not itself being ionized, rather, ionizing radiation, the particles themselves, can cause Cherenkov radiation in the jelly by traveling faster than light would in that medium. So your eye jelly isn't being ionized, your seeing the trail of ionizing radiation in your eye jelly. RIP. -- KH

I thought one of the most interesting aspects of the movie was the implications of a "nuclear biology." If Godzilla and the Mutos are eating weapon grade Uranium they have a nuclear biology, different than known biological creatures who eat chemicals. This drastically opens up the possibilities for how such a creature could behave. A nuclear animal could spin bones out of diamonds or carbon nanotubes using nuclear transmutation the same way as our bodies can spin bones out of chemicals. There might even be the possibility of the creation of ultra heavy elements in the theorized 'island of stability' in the periodic table.
Beyond that, Godzilla might not need to breathe or have a beating heart. We breathe because we need oxygen to burn chemicals to create fuel and we need a heart to circulate various chemicals to active cells. However considering a nuclear biology changes the entire picture. Nuclear reactions require moderators to regulate the process but there is no need for oxygen as a catalyst. If I was designing a Godzilla I would probably spec it out as a creature that uses fast neutrons similar to certain modern nuclear reactors to generate energy. His 'blood cells' would be based on a type of thorium that could accept fast neutrons, becoming isotopes, and spread them through his body, passing energy to cells via radioactive decay.
Another factor is that animals die because our cells expire. Most of our cells need refueling (and re-oxidizing) at least every few minutes or the reaction stops and the cell dies. However nuclear fires burn hot and can burn for a very long time without refueling. A nuclear animal might not need a heart or conversely, his heart might beat very slowly because properly fueled, his cells might not need refueling very often. This of course depends on whether Godzilla''s stomach works as the reactor or if real nuclear fuel is delivered to his cells and each cell is individually a reactor managing and generating its own energy from the fuel in the same way our cells can break down sugar.
    Just food for thought

but about Godzilla being "too big his knees would break" Shin Gojira the newest installment of the Godzilla series explains his body is comprised of new unknown elements that are the strongest things man had ever witnessed explaining how he could be on land. If you have seen the movie they come to the same conclusion that he will be crushed to death by his own weight before they examine his cell structure.

    • @deathgnomes
      @deathgnomes 7 ปีที่แล้ว +83

I believe in previous iterations it was stated that his cells are capable of producing immense amounts of energy, it is also shown that he is capable of regenerating from physical harm quite rapidly. It's possible that these two traits allow his skeletal structure to maintain the density required to support his mass.

if Godzilla wasn't real(he isn't) and the writers don't know what radiation is(they don't) and king kong is in the same cannon(?) then the fact that his heat beam is called radiation is meaningless. (also NO ONE ever states its ionising radiation and blue fire, lightning are both NOT ionising radiation so it doesn't have to be ionising radiation) and it can't be because everyone within 100 miles doesn't immediately vomit up their lungs.

So since he's not even that powerful in that movie and when he faces King Kong in 2020, it'll basically be a fair match since it's now movie might be part 2 of King Kong vs. the V. You realize that it has been stated in movies that that godzilla's atomic breath wasn't fire it was a concentrated beam of radiation meaning that what you just stated has already been said and godzilla is a different species meaning his body and bones have more than likely adapted to being that big so his bones are more that likely denser than what most people estemate because most people assume godzilla's bones are similar to ours when the more likely case is that godzilla's bones are probably more like steel construction beams rather than actual bones

It was stated again and again that his body structure is completely different. As much entertaining as I think it is, Because science never gets the mythos of the franchises right. There's another one were they state that the flying Kaiju have wings too small to fly, extrapolating on living creatures of flesh and bones. Kaijus are made of metamaterials and feed on things like radiation, geothermal energy, electricity, etc. Also Rodan is said to be supersonic and you can clearly see fire running through his wings like a jet engine, Guidhora rides on a hurricane of his own creation, in the original he can even manipulate gravity, how can they not fly? Jet planes are better models of how they fly than living creatures.

Cherenkov radiation doesn't involve ionisation, just polarisation of the medium due to a charged particle travelling faster than local speed of light. The relaxation of this disruption to the electromagnetic field causes light to be emitted, which is typically blue.

I don't know what element that means he's spewing out, but this fact reassures the world in the film that people will be able to return in a short amount of time.

Here's what's funny. About Google+. Somebody, or more than one person, thought it would be cute to report the video that I put up - that wasn't even mine - of Godzilla doing a happy dance _as an example of what_ Kurt Whitley _said_ (which is Godzilla doing goofy stuff) as "spam." It's gone now. Even though I was on topic. So because my link, my _in-TH-cam_ share: something TH-cam clearly _allows_ was treated as - I don't know what - an act of criminality, I guess. I'm going to use this opportunity to erase every comment in this thread. That's fair right!? I realize that it might seem fucked up, but chances are good it was somebody from this thread who reported it, and I think at least one other person had to do the same, and frankly I'm tired of every video I post in the comments of anything being treated as spam, even when it's part of the fucking conversation. If it's against the rules to post links, even to other TH-cam videos, they shouldn't make it an option to post them. That's all I'm saying.

In the original film not only is his breath radioactive, he himself is radioactive. Just standing too close to him for too long would kill you later.
Like the graphite blocks at Chernobyl, touching one meant death, Godzilla is the same way. He's a walking nuclear reactor core.

  • @streamofawareness
    @streamofawareness 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I see people talking about Godzilla's radioactivity and thought I'd chime in. I'm sure his hide alone is probably dangerous. Like, a human who manages to climb onto him (like in Godzilla vs Megaguirus) would get radiation sickness later even with protective gear in place.
I also think his dorsal spines put out radiation that increases when he's charging up his bad breath. I really think his body fluids and bits of flesh that are blown off him are a lot more dangerous than touching his foot because his hide probably blocks a lot of the more dangerous radiation-- that would include the "inside" parts of his blown-off flesh.
So basically if Godzilla spits on you, bleeds on you, takes a crap on you or pukes up something on you, you're pretty much cooked! Literally!

According to the original story boards, the first movie was supposed to have a scene where Godzilla breathes his fire directly onto a group of fleeing soldiers, vaporizing them. Toho decided against the scene because the effects would be difficult to accomplish without expensive animation. The scene was supposed to happen right after Godzilla plows through the Diet Building.
That's how powerful the original Godzilla's atomic breath would've been- it could vaporize, not incinerate but vaporize, human beings.

Do an episode on the technology behind a real life version of the long fall boots from Portal.
How much pressure would the boots have to absorb to keep an average person from getting injured from landing on their feet after a really long fall?
I don't know the furthest distance you can fall in Portal without getting hurt, but let's say 20-25 feet.
Maybe we need to know how far you could potentially land safely on your feet without hurting yourself.
What distance would be too far to land, even with long fall boots? Surely at some distance, even with these boots, the pressure from the sudden deceleration of hitting the ground on your feet would be too much for a boot-sized apparatus and your ankles, legs, or spine would just break.
So, yeah, episode on long fall boots and how they'd actually protect you from ankle-shattering distances.

No its not, his breath is blue because iguanas love blueberries and its said that when he was hit with radiation and became godzilla, he was eating blueberries at the time, and everyone knows that if you get hit with radiation while eating blueberries, that the blueberries metastasis at infinitum and become a well of perpetual blue energy very similar to that of the blue lantern corps, in the green lantern comics. fun fact the blue lantern battery is actually powered by ionized blueberries. the thing is because godzilla is a animal he can't use the power to its full, so he can only do very crude energy blast. true story ready all about it in my book www.amazon.com/dp/B01LIA35EI

      1. Yes it is
      2. He's not an iguana
      3. Is that a joke?....
      4. Godzilla is now even an animal....

GemMine In Hideaki Anno's Shin Godzilla, this new Godzilla is not a mutated dinosaur or a marine iguana; it's a fucking giant microbe that has evolved into a Ultimate Lifeform, carrying 8 sets of unknown DNA.

I always figured that Godzilla's blasts were a mixture of ionizing radiation (what you said) and plasma (explains the high thermal emissions, exploding ships, fuel tanks, etc).
As for G's physiology, he does consume nuclear fuel, so clearly he can';t have normal carbon-based anything like we do. However, if G was made from inorganic materials, laced with exotic metals and compounds that normal life can't have, then yeah, he probably could live. He'd have massive titanium-laced kneecaps, or platinum-laced kidneys, or shit FOOF, or whatever. Maybe his bones are carbon fiber or nanotubes laced with something else, the tensile strength of carbon nanotubes or graphene is pretty crazy, like you've said in other videos.
A video speculating what would make a creature G's size work IRL might be fun, as a followup to this video.

Yeah Matpat said it's probably plasma which is super heated gas. However I suppose an explanation from Kyle would be interesting.

its wrong,Trunks was able to regenerate his a part of his sword using his ki,Black and Zamasu were also able to manipulate it into matter such as blade or scythe,
Hell Trunks did cut Frieza in Half with his sword, and Frieza survived Namek Explosion,Spirit Bomb and an SSJ Kamehameha,I don't believe that sword doing that. It's probably the ki that's used to boost sword's capabilites
Ki is also can be positive and Negative depending on the user and overusing Ki can be resulted with dead

demetric taylor I'd say Godzilla stands a fair chance against Goku since Godzillas standard atomic breath is able to lift over +90,000 tons of pressure (Godzilla flew with his ionizing radiation blast, filling the air with it) and his strength is able to match Thors strength which is within the sextillion range

They explain some of this at the end of Shin Godzilla. Godzilla has a unique form of radiation, the radioactive particles half life is only 2 weeks so the radiation dissipates fairly quickly.
