“Whenever there is a meeting, a parting shall follow. But that parting needs not last forever. Whether a parting be forever or merely for a short while... that is up to you.” The Happy Mask Salesman
I can imagine the team making this game and needing new three-note arrangements to make a song out of that you can play on the ocarina in-game. They just sat their fiddling with any combination that came to mind. Then, someone perks up when they play those three notes in that order. Then, the composer takes those three notes and makes an absolutely beautiful masterpiece out of it. I just wonder when hey decided that this melancholy piece should be called the Song of HEALING.
It is called the song of healing because functionally in the game, the melody is most commonly used to heal the sorrows of the souls of those who have passed on, whose ghosts linger as a result of unresolved sorrows that they endured in life. Majora's Mask is in many ways a very dark game, that is about finding happiness and meaning amid what feels like ubiquitous dread and unavoidable doom. The song reflects this: it is melancholy, but also wistful, conjuring memories of halcyon days gone by. It is sombre, yet soothing at the same time. The morose melody is often framed by wonderfully uplifting harmonies, recontextualizing the melancholic nature of the melody, and suggesting the finding of hope, and of peace, amidst even the deepest darkness.
Day to night Dark to light Fall the sands of time Let the years, like the gears Of a clock unwind In your mind, walk through time Back to better days Memories like a dream, wash tears away Like a star in the sky Darkness can't reach you Light the night, joy is light Til the new dawn Cast away your old face Let go your spite With this mask, I'll ask to borrow your light! Once the years still your fears Time will seal your fate Will the curse be reversed Before it's too late? Ash to dust, left to rust All time fades away All your pain still remains Cast it away You must take on the light Let it help guide you Follow the path ahead Forge one anew Darkness is fading now It's not too late Three days is all you have to change your fate...
It's annoying how most of the people who really take interest in Majoras Mask is just because of the fucking creepypasta, this game should be appreciated for the game itself, which this game is absolutely amazing! By the way, the feels.
MM has always been my favorite game. Though Wind Waker was too, cause not everything you did was rewarded or acknoweldged back to you. Ocarina had sad endings where you couldn't do anything so save people, but tried to give them some peace of mind. These two games felt real, even though Wind Waker was toonish, but the story was really good to me.
You know? I took this game during my worst years. I was wondering everyday why was I living, I was wishing to die. And when I discovered this song it hit me deeply, and I wished to listen to it and feel my pain vanishing, leaving an empty mask behind. Remembering this brings a tear to my eye, but! Life has its own ways of playing a song of healing on you.
The type of song I needed to hear after my recent break-up, it was a 3-year relationship with plans for a future together, now it's all gone... and songs like this will help me to go through this loss and start again.
this song has so many feelings, is perfect. It does just what they wanted, you feeling like everything is a mess and there is not faith at first and then it just give u hope. Is rare. But as the game is a master piece.
The artists of the world live on forever through the strokes of their paintings, through the melodies of their songs, and now, through the pixels of their digital worlds.

To me Majoras Mask will forever be one of the greatest games of all time. Never has a narrative captured the human condition like this masterpiece does.
The townsfolk knew the fate of Earth was sealed, there was no escape. Although many tried and failed, it could not be stopped. The religious citizens cried to their gods for forgiveness. Families huddled together, spending their last few moments with each other. A aura of dread surrounded the town, peaceful yet frightening. A child cried out to his mother, maybe looking for comforting or reassurance that everything was going to be alright. The mother just sat there, tears slowly dropping from her face. She didn't respond. The boy exclaimed he didn't want to die. Sobbing, he sat down and curled into a ball. The moon crashed into the Earth, killing all life instantly
Brings back so many memories. So beautiful. One of my most favorite games of all time, if not THE best game I have ever played together with Ocarina of Time :)
Brilliant version! Song of Healing is my favorite song of all the series. I have no idea why but every time I hear the song, a part of me just wants to ball my eyes out in tears. Everything in me just comes out and I break in tears, all the little things that I don't even think about. This song truly reaches down into our hearts and brings the best memories whether they are good or bad.
Incredible... I have to admit, that majora mask have the two best song to represent despair and hope, or at least, in their orquestra version, the first is Oath to order, and the second is this song... is that they transfers that emotion so well, even with this song that i hear, i not only feel hope, i too feel determination, or a fighter spirit that tell me that the life could be dificult, but is me what decide is that will finish now, and if i try to change my destiny, i can do it, like link do in majora mask :'v
The original song makes my eyes wet everytime, because I played again and again that scene where the mummie-dad gets back to his normal state. But that remix, damn it dude, you made me cry like a little girl
Reminds me of all the good times I've had with this game and the time period in which I enjoyed it. Grasping each moment of mystery and challenge of exploring a save file I did not create. Some people criticize my fascination with video games, but It's me thats having the last laugh because I got to experience the wonders of such an intriguing title with almost scary themes. And I love it. Thanks Nintendo, and you Tom Lewis, for this amazing song. Keep up the good work =)
Spirits of child, of hero, of dear friends... Solaced by music when their lives meet an end. This song will cause them to rest in memories... Drifting with thoughts of their past families. This is a soft kiss; this is a remembrance... Of who I was before I met this fate. Do not be saddened, but will you please listen? In the song, find the peace to release me... Face to mask; eyes to glass. I'm not who I was... Suddenly, my body, dissolves into dust. My own face...is replaced with a magic mask. Take it and use it; that is all I ask. One day, a hero will bear my resemblance... To complete what my life did not achieve. He will bring honor to the name I carried. He will finish the task and heal my soul i like these lyrics better

Day to night
Dark to light
Fall the sands of time
Let the years, like the gears
